This is a pretty common practice in Silicon Valley. Almost all tech employees have worked for multiple tech companies. Also, it's freaking FB/Meta, I don't think they need to steal Twitter's ex employees to make a social media app.

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is as long as you are not violating trademarks or patents, there is no violation. Its hard to think, any of twitter architecture components actually made it to the threads app platform. Meta already has infrastructure to serve content at scale through facebook and instagram and does it without any outages.

Doubtful that Meta would use any meaningful source code or other resources lifted from Twitter; these two companies operate different apps with differently coded infrastructures. As far as the "concept" or overall design of Twitter: let's not pretend that online bulletins, chat rooms and message boards are a new innovation. These ideas are arguably over 30 years old. Imagine a convenience store suing a gas-station for stealing the "brilliant" idea to sell cigarettes.

The vast majority of active Twitter users have been those who are vocal in politics, activism, and to a lesser extent media. I suspect the left in this group of people will begin moving to Threads which means you have a subset of a subset of people using Threads. This is not a product that will appeal to the masses or those on the right. The question will be whether they can monetize what I suspect is an audience of 50-100 million active users at most. That's not small but it's nowhere near the size of platforms like KZbin, TikTok, and Facebook proper.

Meta has failed with metaverse, losing billions. Meta has now copied the old business model of Twitter, which was never profitable. Also Threads is not available in the EU, and likley wont be, so they are going to miss out on a huge source of revenue from there. Despite gaining users, it will be challenging to turn around a profit without significant ad revenue for Threads.

EU probably needs to regulate it and then it will become available. it works for me in Ukraine (which is Europe but not the EU). twitter does not work in Ukraine because Elon banned our country phone code so we can't access twitter any longer.
