As a person who is half Navajo (with a CIB), and half Polish, I am cringing at these posts by these Twitter users. I grew up in a border town in New Mexico that's close to the Navajo reservation. My mother is Navajo, and my father's family is across the US (East Coast), I have grown up visiting the Navajo Reservation (specifically Arizona) to see my relatives and to practice our traditions, and I live by the traditions set from my Navajo side. What I don't understand is how these people can find a war cry offensive. Native Americans don't own the war cry. For the soundtrack of Navajo Race, how is it offensive? The songs are not ceremonial, it's not from a Sqauw Dance, Fire Dance, Yei Bi Cheii, or a Peyote song. If Dream did use any of the traditional songs in his video, I would consider that offensive of course. Those traditional songs have blessings, stories, and even specific times when they can even be played. But anything like a Pow wow, song and dance, or even a song made specifically for a movie/soundtrack, I legit don't see it as offensive. As a TL;DR Those who are offended by Dreams videos or anything that is "Cultural Appropriation" need to grow some skin. The Dinetah is not some weak feeble people, we've outlived the genocide of Kit Carsons long walk. The cruelty of the US boarding schools, and the attempt of the destruction of the Navajo language. We've fought wars for the US using our language (Navajo Code Talkers). By taking offense to some KZbinr who is trying to enjoy their day, using a "war cry" makes our people look weak. Native Americans are a strong people who've outlived Manifest destiny, and those who cry about feelings need to toughen up. That is my take on the matter.
