@@OverkillWoodcraft thanks man. I’ve been thinking along the same idea as you, but it once cry once. No point buying the cheap stuff just to buy it again. I’m going to buy a nice track saw before I get a table saw. It’s unreal the accurate cuts you can make with a track saw especially for getting started.
@OverkillWoodcraft2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, and yeah it's funny because I still fight the urge to be cheap occasionally haha. Really depends on what you're mostly making, but I'd be lost without a table saw. Do wish I bought a tracksaw sooner though, I took a gamble on the Wen and it's one instance where being "cheap" paid off. It has plenty of power and is dead on every time, but I have used the Makita and can understand why the higher end saws are worth the extra cost.

Great little shop and nicely presented. I like your comment on the ability to make great things without having expensive machines and tools. I’m a prime example. I’m a tool and die maker for over 50 years ( retired now ) several years after completing my apprenticeship I started my own wood shop. I made a lot of kitchen and bathroom cabinetry as well as speciality furniture. I had a tiny little 8 table saw. A Craftsman radial saw. Craftsman 6 inch jointer and 14 inch Craftsman band saw . A dinky 12 inch planner, a 6X 48 belt sander and a drill press. Somehow I managed. As the business grew I was able to get more nicer equipment. Bought several pieces at auction. Point is it’s great to have all the wonderful pieces of equipment but a true craftsman CAN make chicken soup from chicken shit! My total investment initially was less than the price of Saw Stop saw alone. Enjoyed your video. Good luck with your new shop.

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback! Awesome story too, was glad to hear it and obviously I couldn't agree more. Someone actually commented on one of my other videos recently and assumed I bought everything with my parent's money, which was funny to me. Fancy tools definitely help, especially with efficiency in some areas, but like you said they're not needed. Here in the next few months I'll finally get around to filming a tour of the new shop...once I'm done paying for more fancy tools with some commission work haha.

Nice shop! I love the planer storage. My planer storage is a metal tool box with no drawers that I found next to the dumpster at a radator shop. Its super heavy and had nice casters. Someone just too the drawers out. I originally was going to make a industrial night stand, but when I unboxed the planer it fit. Been that way for a few years! Thanks for inspiring me to build drawers in it. Only knock I got is your flammable paint locker. You might possibly collect fumes in there. It shouldn't really have things in them to product sparks.... like battery chargers. I'd just build something to pull that mess outside the cabinet. Just a long shot safety thing as your shop is attached to your house. Also, you might think of a fire extinguisher in there.
@OverkillWoodcraft2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for taking the time to watch it, and I'm glad you found some inspiration for the planer cart! The one you have sounds pretty awesome, definitely won't have to worry about it breaking haha. I appreciate the looking out on the locker too. I get pretty paranoid about that stuff so I always unplug everything when I leave the shop and keep multiple fire extinguishers around. Since moving into my new shop I've relocated the chargers just be extra safe though 👍🏻

@OverkillWoodcraft2 жыл бұрын
Sure do, just followed 👍🏻 My issues were small far as the saw, but big when it came to their customer service. The miter gauge gouged my cast iron top right out the box and I had to take the issue all the way up to their GM, who was awesome, but the techs before him basically told me to shove off. Then part of the worm drive shaft snapped and I couldn't raise or lower the blade with the wheel. Took a long time and lots of complaining to get the parts and zero explanation on how to replace them. It's a great saw overall, but I do wish I would've shelled out for a more powerful one from a brand with better customer service.
