Fabulist engines! My last three boats had them in them, Taken care of should last fifty years! When starting if you open to half throttle then push that button with the spring under it at (538) on your video, It should stay down! Thats the choke, It will fire right up! You want that in cold weather or will take forever to start!

The question marks when Robie was mumbling cracked me up.

It cracks me up when I’m editing, just have to pass that feeling along. 😆

Robi also injected his dry humor into the mix at various times... such as the archeology comment, lol!!! This is going to be a great inboard... I enjoy re watching as you progress with accumulation of parts and actually going to be sailing soon if all progresses as planned....

MD2B the levers are separate useful for hand starting flick one then when that fires the other. Ours ran on raw seawater for years without a problem.

Thumbs up indeed! Great to hear her run. I spent the weekend with my engine mounts too. I converted the Catamaran to an outboard so I am cutting out the mounts to have more space for a water tank. Hi to Choco.

Good luck with your project as well. Love the idea of taking that oily, rusty engine place and turning it into a water tank!

@@sailorama Yeah. Everything mechanical is hanging off the back now. Between that and the composting toilet the boat has never smelled better.

You won’t have much compression till you sling some oil up on the cylinder walls. Hot tip open throttle 1/4 and depress the the little brass “cold start button” it should stay down till the engine fires. I find it quite easy to hand crank my md2b affectionately known as HULK. Cheers! Old iron forever!

Now I have to look at my motor. Do I need to make a heat exchanger? One more thing on this list. Oh well this year is solar install time I am putting a 10k system at home then 2 more locations. Plus the boat. My supplier makes RV panels. I was in his warehouse last weekend and got a good look at his setup. 3 machines running and 3 more to get going. That's a lot of money. Your new motor is sweet. Glad to see it fire right up.

Doesn't sound too bad. A friend of mine has more or less the same engine, just much more smokey. Still runs though. Some old Volvos are just rebadged perkins, might be a source for more affordable and available parts. If I remember correctly the decompression levers are for crank start, you crank like crazy with both open and then pop them both. The ginormous flywheel has enough inertia... Also the valves and the decompression are adjustable / need to be checked.
@daveamies50313 жыл бұрын
What was wrong with the old yellow engine? for a heat exchanger you can just run some steel pipes down the hull beside the keel, crude but effective and you can anti-foul paint it.

Always a great adventure ! Finely doing things for your home ha ! New used engine great fun ! Thanks
@shahntv3 жыл бұрын
That engine looks very simple and easy to maintain. Do they still make parts for it?
@sailorama3 жыл бұрын
Some parts are kind of universal (the coupler and mounts for example) while other parts are going to be a treasure hunt (the heat exchanger and the exhaust elbow - ended up building a custom elbow at a welding shop for our previous boat Rossa's old engine in the end).
