I took this trip in 1967 and was amazed by Darjeeling.I remember watching the sunrise from a hillside, illuminating Kanchenjunga, and stayed in a guesthouse owned by an Anglo Indian woman whose name I've forgotten. The entire trip was amazing; the best part was Darjeeling.

Mr, PRSW 100, dear Sir, this mountainous city which is known as Queen of Hills, just for it's quality of pulling me as magnet, I have visited thrice Darjeeling..! An even now, I find opportunity to visit the city again and again..! But here in this video, I think you have add a new dimension to this, opening up a new vista for us..! I have visited the place once again through your eyes, and it's amazing..! Thank you so much for your contribution Sir...!

Your narration made a perfect justice to our small yet beautiful town. The reason why Mark Twain said it took eight hours to reach Darjeeling is probably bcoz he took train from siliguri Itself and not just from Ghoom to the main town .

As a young lad growing up in British India, living in Calcutta at the time. I had the privilege to be sent to boarding school GOETHALS MEMORIAL SCHOOL, KURSEONG, 30 km. from Darjeeling. Back in the day, the Toy Train ran regular services from Siliguri to Darjeeling. When we arrived at Siliguri after a 'two-day' journey from Calcutta the students were always excited to board the Toy Train reserved especially for us. We had our own 'Siding' a special STOP at the entrance to our school. As you can imagine the Toy Train full to capacity with very mischievous young boys it was a nightmare for the teachers to keep us under control. 2018, I have just recently visited the school which stands on a hilltop and clearly visible from the train with a large sign painted on a wall GOETHALS MEMORIAL SCHOOL. Misty water-colored memories of the way we were Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were Can it be that it was all so simple then Or has time rewritten every line If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me, would we? Could we? THANKS FOR A WONDERFUL VIDEO.

A lovingly recorded and video-graphed journey through one of those few remaining hill stations now, unfortunately, out grown it's original concept and become a bustling crowded town. But to the discerning and sensitive traveler they will ferret out that charm that once was 'Darge' as it is proudly referred to by those who studied at two prestigious schools there established and run by the British well into the fifties! The railway line was indeed an engineering feat that is even today, revered as a God-send and an integral part of the lore and culture of this region. This documentary, so sensitively and lovingly narrated really made this a memorable trip . Thank you

Many thanks Dinshaw for your interesting reply. I have to say the rap part that Prof. Alex and I had with the students was the highlight of the town. The film captured a little of that. Blessings and stay safe. Paul

I've always wanted to go to Darjeeling and Sikkim. There's something majestic and soothing about this place. I think I could easily spend a year there if not longer. I was wondering if the cuisine there is more traditionally Indian or closer to Chinese?
@prsw1008 жыл бұрын
I haven't been to Sikkim, but in Darjeeling the cuisine was mainly Nepalese and Indian, but Chinese food is always available in India. Western food is also available but I usually avoid it unless there's a BBQ Nation or TGI Friday!

Darjeeling is my most favourite in India. By the way, this is my 2nd comment on this vlog.
