What’s the worst that can happen? If I was out with my dog and met someone wild camping where they maybe shouldn’t be I’d pass the time of day with them and that would be that. I imagine most folk wouldn’t give a dam about you camping up a road embankment or on a large roundabout. Keep up the great videos 👍
@Haksdo23 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't mind either, I'd frankly be interested in how his/her experiences and setup are. But far from everyone thinks so, loads of people quickly think of drug users or other homeless people causing trouble when they see someone camping at a random place. And some of those will instantly call the police.

If you build your tent in the evening and leave early in the morning, you can sleep everywhere. No need to dramatize it. I have been wild camping for three years when I was homeless. Sometimes the police ask you to leave, but as it was already morning, no problem at all. Best is to eat where you are not camping. 6 PM is a great time for dinner and 22 PM is best to place your tent. You may have scouted the surroundings long for that. Nobody will bother you if you wait for dawn on an open spot, and move to your camping spot when it's time to sleep.

Last Friday I did a kayak to a Gold Coast inland island for a day camp with tarp on a wooded island. One end of the island was literally a full blown nesting site for cormorants and Ibis so I was up the other end. My site was under descending tree canopy but with a cascade of Lantana thorns over the top (think if Blackberry bushes liked to climb up into trees😬‼️). I'd been there about an hour when 2 council guys came walking up to within 7 metres of my stealth-tarp without finding me 😳😜👍‼️- I don't know whether someone had grassed me up as 'likely to be camping' as I kayaked out or what the story was🤔. Anyway, they went away but two hours later the wind shifted round and my campsite was now downwind of a large seabird colony 🤢🤢😝😳, yep! Forced to bug out after surviving a near- council confrontation, nature can be tough😞.

Before you jumped into that river and stood there like a lost person you should of walked down stream 20 yards and used the little brick foot bridge to cross over 🤣 I even know someone who used to live under that bridge and he set up home there with bed and bookshelfs and everything and he used to sit there sniffing lighter gas all day this was back in 1998 , his name was Gordon! Now if he can set up home under that little bridge you must feel a right foolish for not even being able to cross it !!!! P.S love the videos that you do as I used to live around that way for a few years and my other half was from there , in fact we met in front of that sainsbury you went in on the grass right next to where that Russian was poisoned

Might be worth watching a youtube vid on poisenous plants there Billy. I'm absolutely no expert but I think, I think, the flower you were crouched next to before you got in the water was Hemlock. Easy way to see yourself off!
@stevepettifer48963 жыл бұрын
Yeah could be right there - plenty of it in the streams of Wiltshire and Dorset. Hemlock water dropwort. Very nasty.
@treubuchet3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it is. True, this plant is growing in the right location (damp/water course), the height looks about and the flowers appear to be right too but the leaves are a good give away. It's related to carrots and the leaves look just like that, smooth on both sides. 2:10 is the best shot I got of the leaves, which appear to be few and spear-like. Happy to be corrected. Whatever though, you're perfectly correct about awareness and treatment, especially when in shorts and a t-shirt.
@FoxtrotUniCharKilo3 жыл бұрын
Wild parsnip is my guess due to the color of the flower and the best shot of the leaves I could pause on. What ever it is, it’s still a really good idea to be aware of potentially dangerous plants since the conditions where perfect for hemlock.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm only just starting to try and identify a few more plants and its nice to learn a bit more about the environment I see each day. When I'm cycling on holidays I often start about an hour before my daily goal looking around for a hidden camp site. I then check every nice dirt track beside the road and looked on Google maps, too. Suggestion for stealth. With that camo netting, incorporate some local flora into it. For example, collecting the light brown pine needles from the ground (not all in one place) and spreading them over the netting or into it would help lighten the color of the tent and make it blend into the ground more. Beautiful steak! Every dog out being walked within a mile or more was pulling his/her owner towards your camp! ;-)
