I picked up tent cot from Cabela's for a future project and decided I needed to test it out right away with a good old-fashioned yard camp! I don't have an affiliate link for this, but it can be found at Cabela's.
Of course, the snow started to fall and the tent held up well, a very comfortable camping trip overall, but the tent would be a bit small if you had to sit in it on a rainy day.

I am disabled. My backpacking days long gone. This is the first hint that I could camp again. Sure, not ideal for those with working limbs, but looks ideal for me. I have been unable to put up a regular tent. This looks doable. From where I sit [pun intended] it is great. ~Marie

I have the Kamprite version of this. So roomy two can sleep comfortably. Unbelieveably comfortable vs ground w/ pad. Mine has almost 360 degree screens, amazing ventilation. Maybe not as durable as Cabelas. Nice to bee off the ground moisture.

I wish it were a year ago and I just wandered on to Steves channel for the first time. After my son died, I fought a nasty period of insomnia. It was so dark outside, my family sleeping, and I would take a couple of Tylenol PMs and watch Steve. In that couple of months, I watched EVERY video. I knew he was going through his own grief and seemed like a kindred spirit I could trust. So humble and soft spoken. When I did finally doze I never reawakened from loud talking like other channels. I know we are all strangers here but I feel it very family like. So awesome Steve attracts like individuals. ❤

You might appreciate Kent Survival and Quiet Nerd. They aren't quite as soft-spoken or generally calm as Steve, they're both well-recorded and peaceful videos for the most part. If you like handmade crafts then Quiet Nerd is excellent, he builds his own unique camping setups like one with tank treads and one that's a homemade boat. All three are my go-to channels for relaxing at night before bed, or just general pseudo-meditation during a stressful time.

I have this same cot tent, I've had it for probably 2+ years, I'm an avid outdoorsman, I go camping on the regular and I've fought forest fires for the last 5 years. This cot tent is amazing, it packs down and folds up in a bag, and I can set it up in under a minute. It isn't exactly lightweight, but it's fairly comfortable with just a sleeping bag. I love my Cabela's cot. I use it regularly. I've woken up after it snowed, it kept me warm and I didn't know it snowed until I unzipped it 😂

I've had one of these for 12 years now. I have mobility issues that are made worse by sleeping curled up in a car. This tentbed makes it possible for me to do longer road trips down to the capitol city, or interstate to visit relatives, on a really low budget. I just pull up, pull off the road, set this up on the far side of the car (if it's wet I throw a tarp over the car and use bungy cords to attach it to trees or poles or whatever is handy to make a poor man's awning,) and sleep for hours, comfortable, dry, and off the bug's menu. Another big advantage is, when it's cold, I'm off the ground. When it's wet, all that gets wet are the legs. Yes it's heavy. Yes it takes up space. But I can get into and out of it without needing to crawl, I can set it up in thirty seconds and I've got over ten years of frequent use out of mine. Well worth it imo. edit oh yours has a fly? That's pretty cool. Mine doesn't but like I said I just throw up a tarp to make an awning off one side of the car and I'm laughing.

That’s a good way of putting it. I always say if our forefathers had lighters they would have used them. Pretending like they don’t exist seems dumb. Steak, tomatoes, onions, cooked as a stew, then an apple for dessert. I managed to lose 200 pounds eating like that. Well, I usually ate chicken, but whenever my weight loss would plateau, I'd do a steak day (grilled steak with one sauteed tomato for dinner, and lots of water, no other food for the day). Jump-starts your metabolism. Just be careful not to use too many seasonings. Limit it to two, like salt and pepper, or lemon pepper and fennel seeds, or basil and garlic. I don't know why, but using many seasonings throws off the weight loss. Lost those 200 pounds in 2 years. Lots of walking and drinking about half a gallon of water a day.

I love this! Small and cozy :) The great thing about this in comparison to a tent is that it's off the ground. I went tent camping and was surprised by a rainstorm. The water found its way in and got all of the bedding wet. After a day hike waiting for everything to dry (on the hood of the truck), it rained again immediately after setting up the mattresses/bedding. With this tent cot I could have just zipped up and snuggled in with a good book (or KZbin lol).

I plan using mine in conjunction with my canoe. No worries about weight or running out of room in my 15 foot boat, and this will get me off the ground in the wetlands, away from moisture, mud and snakes. Bonus is that (unlike a hammock) I get to lay flat in this tent cot, and even roll over or spread out. No worries about having to find suitable trees for a hammock either. I can stay on the sandbar or beach, right next to the boat.
@mariekatherine5238
@mariekatherine5238 Жыл бұрын
You need to water proof your tent or make a suitable rainfly from a tarp. Depending upon the source of the water, you might consider a different base to your tent. I did that with a cheap tent from Walmart, cut off the existing bottom and sewed on a heavy duty tarp with triple backed seams to form a high wall base of 12 inches. It cut down on floor space and added a bit to height, so I bought poles to extend the originals. It’s good for car camping, not backpacking unless it’s like a few miles to the lake.

Like the comment under my comment...I am disabled. And our Kamp-Right Cot Tent has kept the wife and I camping when "regular" tent camping ended loooong ago. The cot keeps me off of the ground and greatly reduces my chances of pneumonia, it helps in the fact that it doesn't take a half-hour to get up and going. All of my meds stay where it is completely water-proof. We have just a BIG pile of super-warm blankets inside and we snuggle up together and the cold doesn't get a chance to get at me and ruin our weekend - I have hyper thyroidism and cold really gets me. Like you said...it was kind of expensive...especially for the two-person Cot Tent, but for us...IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!! Keep the awesome videos coming, Steve.🏕🏕🏕🏕🏕

I have one of those tents. I used it one year for GOBA (the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure) and it was awesome for sleeping - super easy to set up and it was comfortable. I was able to store my bags under the tent. It also helped to have a "welcome mat" so I could wipe my feet before getting in the tent. We had a car with us that year, so it was easy to lug around.

Always wondered if those cot tents were warm enough and dry. They looked like they would be. I seen them on display at CABELA'S here in the USA 🇺🇸. Minimalist camping but nice quality, right up my alley! I would, however, take a separate screen room for hanging out in until bedtime. Doing that would make it pretty perfect for a campground setup. So I really enjoyed this video a lot. Thanks for doing it.

Out here in Australia a lot of 4x4 campers use these type of cot tents, along with swag tents, when driving a multi day trail. Saves space in the vehicle for extra gear, quick setup and takedown, and keeps you away from the wildlife. Also on a hot night the airflow under the tent helps with cooling you down. Mate of mine uses one for motorbike camping, his only complaint is that it is cold as hell but we were camping in winter so yeah.

I had a '77 Ford XC V8 wagon. Dual fuel. LPG/petrol. My starting routine started the day before. It wouldn't start on gas, so every day coming home I had to remember to switch it to petrol. Anyone that's ever driven an old dual fuel car with a mechanical fuel pump knows you have to have some momentum once you switch the gas off to suck the juice into the engine and fire up again. Then, it had some kind of electrical short that would drain the battery overnight, so I installed a battery isolator. Once I was parked I'd pop the bonnet and isolate the battery. In the morning, pop the bonnet, connect the battery (actually TWO deep cycle marine batteries, because that bugger could take 5 minutes of cranking to light on fire). Put the choke _just so_, two pumps on the throttle, turn the key and pray. If that didn't work, I had a spray can of carby starter, and a remote starter switch. So, pop the bonnet, hook the starter button to the starter motor, take the lid off the air filter, and spray starter fluid straight down its throat while cranking it. That usually worked. But if it didn't, and the battery went flat from trying, I'd have to hook up a battery charger and wait a few hours before trying again. But when she fired-up, she didn't skip a beat. She just wasn't a morning person. :) Tell me cars don't have personalities. :)

I have two of these things. I've traveled the country with them, camping the entire time. The fact that they take 30 seconds to set up meant that I could pull into a campsite and get camp set up for myself (and sometimes my son), have a campfire going and have food cooked within 15 minutes of arrival. Getting packed out to hit the road the following morning was just as quick. You can also keep your bedding inside of the cot when you fold it up to put it away, which helps even more with packing/unpacking times. It's not the best option for a long-term multi-day camp. Finding a private place to change your clothes if you are in a crowded area can be a challenge. I find sleeping in it a lot more comfortable than the ground in a standard tent. I had a 2-Door Wrangler and sleeping in my vehicle was not an option, so these things made long-distance trips very comfortable.

Spot on. Try sleeping in vehicle being 6 ft plus tall for extended trip. H### No. My Tent Cot has been a good investment. It really "paid off" on a trip I went to a Off Road park then it rained for 3 days. It ended up a mud bog, I had my 05 Wrangler and 4wheeler on flat trailer. My camp ground was about 3 plus inches of water and mud so Tent Cot was on trailer. A Jeep, small trailer and Tent Cot works out great for some of us.

Even better when you have multiple individuals. Each can setup their solo where ever is comfortable, like away from everyone else so the snoring doesn't keep everyone awake. Also, much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground and dealing with rocks, etc. Yes they are heavier, especially that model. I've worked with three different models and they have all been good in their own way. Some are lighter, some more flexible. Really good when you're constantly on the move and may be in a different camp each night. I personally have the Teton Sports XXL cot and their Tent that goes on top. Gives me the option of Tent only or tent/cot combo. Not any lighter then his setup, just a bit more flexible.

One of the great things about a bed like this is that a person can put it inside of another tent, and the covering around the bed tent, which can be added to for greater insulation, provides an extra layer of protection from the cold outside and the wind. Also, it keeps a person from being on the ground which is important sometimes. As for me, I would never camp outside without hard sides around me, that's just not safe, so I would definitely place something like this inside of either a pop up screen tent or just another tent :) I like the idea you mentioned concerning putting wheels on it, so hopefully you did something interesting - can't wait to see your other videos to find out :)
