...my grandpa raced modified.... its bringing a tear to my eye just remembering how competitive it was.... seems like it was a little more about the driver than the car... which has its ups and down... but its cool seeing the skill transfer... its like you always drove modified... leaning over like that has to feel different...

At the track on Saturday, I saw you start bouncing around and thought, "Man, the track couldn't have gotten that rough that fast." Saw a few others bouncing but not as bad as you were and in the stands we knew you had a problem. Tough luck in both divisions, you had them covered. Like you said, hopefully all of the bad luck is out of the way for the rest of the week's activities. This weekend has made me into a Modified fan in addition to already being a Late Model fan. Let's go get them tonight at Northwest Florida Speedway!

I've been watching these guys for a few years now, I'm pretty sure Southern doesn't do ANY track prep. Those holes have been in Turn 1 sine the channel started. I'm honestly surprised no one has gotten seriously hurt from being thrown around in their car with as hard as those cars are bouncing around. If I were the staff at Southern, I would be mortified that the whole Country knows the poor state of your track surface.

56 car needs a total going over after that bump fest. Every component and fastener needs to be checked. I've seen smoother cattle tracks, lol

We ran the 602 and 604 in our asphalt circle track cars. You are correct about the 50 hp difference but that gap spreads when you have a season on the 602 and 604. The chip we had to use was 6300, saves the engines and we did not freshen them up til they break if they were working good.

We put our brand new 602 on the dyno, it stopped making power at 5960 and went down above that. The GM documentation that came with the engine said it's peak power is achieved @ 6000 and not to rev past that. It's because of the weak valve springs. Swapping them out for better ones is against our rules.

@@alvarsdzenis4739 we had the same rules here in Ontario, Canada regarding spring upgrades. There are divisions in the US that use the 5800 limiter on the 602 which makes more sense than the 6300

Jonathan was doing a good job behind the wheel. especially for not getting a lot of seat time the past couple years, you jumped in that modified and looked right at home, unfortunate deal with the steering shaft, the track turned horrible and was tearing cars apart.

Don't feel bad, my spline came off one night coming off the high side of a track with no back wall and it barrel rolled. A year of physical therapy later and many thousands of dollars gone I'm "normal" lol. Yours came loose at the perfect time to not hurt you or the car.
