Out of all of his more violent and action roles, this is my favorite Mitchum film. He was great in everything, but when he let his sensitive side really come out, it's a pleasure to watch.

A love the opening, NYC, early 60s, reminds me of uncle who was 39 in 1960 and living in NYC as an artist. I visited him many times at his studio apartment on 23rd street in the 1970s. Those days are long gone.

Mitchum really shows his chops here, bringing nuance and vulnerably and a deft intelligence in his choices re: line delivery. The other star is Ted McCord whose very fine cinematography in other films is drop dead gorgeous here - a real master of latitude in black and white - perfection, really.

@@celticpridedrums I thought I was the only one to see this dreck for what it is. People are easily influenced by names. Mitchum, MacLaine, Wise. How could it not be wonderful? It isn't. It's pretentious manure posing as art. My husband and I waded through it for almost half an hour, then gave up.

A favorite of mine from 1964. Shirley looked mid century gorgeous in all of her wardrobe changes; beautiful gowns, etc. Robert Mitchem was a HOOT 😊. Such a fun, silly, light hearted, warm romantic comedy. Great cast, scenery and acting. Along with Paul Newman, Gene Kelly and other greats. Worth watching. 💎🛍️🍾🍸🍸🎭👘👠👠💎

@@patrickryan1515 yeah, it *was* later mentioned in his apartment: something as to the 'personal investments' after 'taking care of HIS bed bug problem'. So, it wasn't 'banter'. One supposes, in any association, it's of value to have shared task performances. Task performances, testing the compatabilities and capacities of functionality. So, how did they as a couple move as a team - descending on those BED BUGS. END goal: the BED BUGS eradication. Btw, just as a heads up in life: 'when romance just around the corner' that IS the most VITAL time to look after one's self - that oxytocin (bonding hormone) does, and will, endanger one's quality (and quanity) of choices (that follow it).

I don't recall when exactly but I remember hearing NYC having a massive bed bug infestation sometime either in the 1990's or early 2000's, bed bugs are not due to the lack of personal hygiene, rather from mobility, luggage, moving from city to city. And btw, " oxytocin is a hormone released by the pituitary gland that causes increased contraction of the uterus during labour and stimulates the ejection of milk into the ducts of the breasts."

Breakfast at Tiffany's meets Purging at the Slaughter house district. This wreck might have been saved if they replaced Squirrely Maclaine with Judy Holliday and Robert Mitchum with anybody else. (Jack Lemmon, John Gavin, someone to fit and act out the part.) I only watched this humorless unsympathetic travesty to see what was nominated for the 1963 Academy Awards. There was never any chemistry between the two leads and Robert Mitchum is not Greenwich Village material. How could it even be nominated? Big names don't guarantee a great movie. Two for the seesaw? How about Two for the Buzzsaw? On a scale of 1 to 5 it doesn't even register. I had heard the movie was lousy but I had to see for myself. Lousy was generous.

Thank you for reminding me there are still some astute movie critics. What horrible casting. Oh yes, Judy Holliday and Jack Lemmon were truly gifted actors meant for roles like this. I can't imagine how agonizingly painful it would have been sitting through this 2 HR flop at the movie theatre even with the intermission there was in those days. Squirrelly captures the essence of Shirley Maclaine's talent who only belonged in the back of a theatre chorus line.
