Imagine becoming a victim of a horrific accident that was supposed to have been protected against three years earlier when something similar occurred. Imagine this happening just after your shift during the time you're supposed to be heading home.
Well, this nightmare became a reality for 21-year-old Gabriela Garin in the summer of 2007 when her life was tragically cut short at the hands of a roller-coaster that had killed before.
But, who exactly was Gabriela Garin? What happened to her? What incident served as the grim foreshadowing of her accident? And what was done afterward to prevent such an incident from ever occurring again?

I loved Mindscrambler as a kid, it was my favorite ride at Playland. I remember being unsettled by the first death, but it didn't stop me from riding since I heard that it was because a child stood up on it. The second death impacted me more because they shut the ride down for good. I missed riding it a lot. Thank you for telling the stories of these people. I never got to know who they were in such detail, and it's sad to find out, but also humanizes them in a way I didn't see before.

@Ning Bronsin It's how the information is given and detailed. Kinda like this: A girl was killed on Disney's America Sings attraction due to her human error. vs Deborah Gail Stone was an 18 year old college student working at Disney in 1974 to earn some extra money for her new expenses. On the newly opened attraction "America Sings", she worked as a hostess, greeting guests as they entered the theater. On July 8th, 1974 at about 11 PM, Deborah walked too closely to the area between a stationary wall and a moving stage wall, placing her in harm's way. The girl was crushed to death between the two walls. Reports state that visitors first didn't understand the situation, assuming her screams to be part of the attraction's show. In the immediate aftermath, Disney installed sensor lights to warn the operator if anyone was in a dangerous area, eventually replacing the existing walls with breakaway walls as another safety measure. Deborah Stone was the first employee to be killed as the result of an accident at Disneyland, with the park having been in operation for 19 years at the time of the incident. See how wording something with more humanity can, well... humanize and encourage empathy?

With rides such as this a LOTO (lock out tag out) procedure would help make safety so much better. When any employee leaves the safety of the main console they lock the console with a key only they have access to. This way NO ONE under any circumstances can start the ride. Then, when they are done and back into a safe position they unlock the console and the ride can begin.

Poor Gabriela, her death could have been avoided so easily, there was no need for more people working, if only they had one simple rule in place... The rule that the rides should in under no circumstance start unless the ride operator on the platform walks off and signals to the ride operator in the booth that all is clear... I see this all the time at Gothenburg's Liseberg, on Helix. The two people checking that the restraints are fastened will check every seat on their side before stepping back and holding a thumbs up high up in the air, and the ride operator won't start the ride unless both peoples thumbs are up... If this had been used on the Mind Scrambler as well, then there wouldn't have been any miscommunication between the ride operator and the guests, since the ride operator would have known when to start the ride thanks to the signal.. RIP, my heart goes out to those affected

@@erikarobinson747 While I'm not going to call her names due to her being deceased, and shouldn't have been left alone. She did know better however, because the channel creator mentioned that she went on that ride countless times before but probably with someone older? From the picture and the way her family described her(they were being kind but if u can read thru the lines)she was a mischievous little girl who should've had an adult with her because of how some kids behave when there's no adults present? Her little butt was trying to get the attention of her friend, but if u have ever gone on that type of ride then u already know how strong the push and pull dynamics are because it goes so fast? There was a ride just like that one here in my home city at our SeaBreeze amusement park, and no child was allowed to go on it without an adult present.

So much footage from this video isn’t even from Playland in Rye NY. Both of these instances were horrific, but this ride never should have closed. It was the best ride in the park. The ride wasn't the issue. Human error was. I don’t care how many times that little girl rode the ride, why was an 8 year old riding this alone? One, it was a dark ride with loud, blaring music and flashing lights. Two, she was only 8. I don’t care how brave a child is. If your child is on the adult rides, then you have a responsibility to ride with them or ensure an adult or teen, who is responsible rides with them. The second was just as devastating. She was off of the clock. Did the new ride operator know she was trying to help him? This one has always been more confusing because the story always seems to differ a bit.
