Ben Baker first of all if you need a net on your slide that’s a red flag that the design of the slide is already dangerous. 2nd the net will kill you if your head gets anywhere near it considering you’re moving at 60+ miles an hour. Congratulations you didn’t fall of the ride but now you have no head.

@@punisherspirit1288 i definitely agree with you, but to play devil's advocate, perhaps there is slight chance it could save your life, where as if it wasn't there it would be certain death. who knows though, i don't really know what the ride was like, even had they had the right weight and height on that raft. It’s to slow down the riders while giving them some airtime, like what a rollercoaster does. Many accounts claim that the weight of the ladies and boy didn’t reach the 400lb minimum, obviously that’s in place to prevent this and if it was true then that’s why they hit the net
@Ahex754 жыл бұрын
@@zachb1706 that humb was one of the safety features as you said. Slows speed. 400 lb minimum sounds idiotic. Riders need to be overweight to meet that limit (if women and children rides it) and how many overweight man has enough stamina to climb up. Why didn't they add weight to the raft? I have a feeling that more people would decline going on the ride if the liability clause was read to them before they actually made the climb. I guess that the park only wants to take the time to read it to those that have already committed to going on it but I think that it would be a better idea if riders, or parents of riders, were given this info when they book the reservation times (you have to book a spot on the ride apparently). @dangerdoge41133 жыл бұрын
"dangers behind them" This was C O M P L E T E L Y the fault of the people working the ride on the day of the accident. They're supposed to check the weight of every raft after everybody gets on. There is a built in scale on the top of the ride at the station. They're supposed to exchange riders with heavier ones and put the other riders back in the front of the line. They ignored the fact that these kids only probably weighed about 350 pounds together and let them go down anyways.

When you see the rafts flying off the ride, thats exactly as it happened when the park was testing that slide. I swam at the pool that the Park trained their lifeguards at, so I talked not only with the lifeguards that were to be working that ride, but with their swim instructors for the park. There were always laughing going on whenever our conversations turned to me asking HOW IS THE SLIDE COMING, WILL IT BE READY WHEN THE SUMMER SEASON OPENS. EVERYBODY THAT HELPED GET THE RIDE READY .Like some of the personel that were used as test subjects were telling me that it scared the crap out of them. A couple came out and said they would never again go on it, and that it was a accident waiting to happen. Then they told me little things like it took several minutes just to walk up it to the top. Thats when I brought up a couple of things I wondered about. I know at the water park I go to when there is lightening you have to come down from the ride and I was concerned that if it took you that long to walk up it, then you could not really get a bunch of folks down it very quickly if lightening starts flashing. I also was concerned with the time it would take if you if there was an emergency where someone had a heart attack or any other type of situation where a person needed to be gotten off the top of the ride in case of health problems or seizures, etc. That concerned me also . Picture the ride loaded with swimmers from the bottom to the top of the slide, and you have to quickly evacuate , its not to pretty to invision, and I really did not get a good feeling about safety in those situations. But back to the accident that took the boys life. After seeing the park personell for a few weekends and I always asked about the slide and how was it coming along. It always seemed to have bugs that they were trying to work out, and they were on a deadline to have it done. But again when I asked about if the ride was still launching rafts and dummies , everybody would laugh and no one ever really was too worried about accidents. When the slide was up and running I talked to some friends that went and rode the thing, and they said at the time they went that it tossed you and you were never really stable in the raft. I am short and thats a problem when I get on some rides. The harness that would hold you in fits different on a shot and big or tall person. There is moving room and you are not secure.. but most adults I talked to were not too thrilled with it, but of course the kids loved it. Then as time went on the park added more safety features seeing that there were still issues going on. KNOWING WHAT I KNEW I WOULD NEVER HAVE GOTTEN ON THAT THING.. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FOLKS ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO PUSH THE LAWS OF GRAVITY...WHATS THE OLD SAYING, WHAT GOES UP , MUST COME DOWN. AND THE VIDEO SAID IT WENT AS FAST AS 70 MILES AN HOUR. WHEN YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT AT THAT SPEED AND ARE NOT SECURED IN THE RIDE, THE OUTCOME IS NOT PRETTY. That young man was decapitated. Imagine , his brother was not on the ride with him, but waiting at the bottom when he was to get off. His folks had to be faced with having a nice day with their family, then in a matter of seconds ,your family is devastated. All over some ride.. But now you go by the Park and not just because of the virus shutdown of water parks where I live, but that big monster of a slide is history. There was a big empty space with some rubble still there, by now tho it is probably all cleared away and all thats left of the tragic accident that happened is every once in a while a video about it pops up on utube to remind us that another old saying might fit ..IF YOU PLAY, YOU PAY.. MEANING DON'T PUSH BOUNDERIES, SOMETIME WHAT LOOKS FUN IS REALLY A SNAKE READY TO BITE...

4:13 - Almost the exact same thing happened to me when I was 11. I was on an open tube slide at a water park near Rome, and I fell out of my raft. I then got stuck on the slide, as I didn’t have the slippery raft to help me down. My friend went crashing into me, sending me to the edge of the open slide, but I slid back in. I continued to try and scoot my way down. Then a boy came down, pushing into me and giving the momentum to go down the slide. I was completely fine, not even slightly injured, and at the time, I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Now I realise how unfunny it really was. I actually could have died or been seriously injured. I feel for that kid’s family so much. RIP.

Michelle Jimenz Also if you watch the helicopter shots, you can see the initial impact (decapitation) on the backside of the big hump, that's where the first blood stain starts. He almost certainly had to be decapitated to leave such a significant stain, blood does not gush out of the human body anywhere near that fast otherwise.

never try any big slides that has an uphill or flat in the middle. I was once on a stair shaped water slide that has a flat middle, and got airborne. I was lucky fell back into the same track. It was about 20years ago. Most horrified experience in my life, million times worse than any rollercoaster ride, because I knew it went wrong.

Shen Li I don’t do slides that look scary. If they look scary or have a big drop chances are it may not be safe. There’s always a risk. I do the easier slides and lazy river and wave pool. One slide at Noah’s ark called the point of no return has an almost straight drop down. Never will I do it. Scary and possibly unsafe. No ones ever got hurt going on it but wouldn’t want it to happen to me.

They did win a $20 million dollar settlement though. Still doesn't bring the poor boy back. But it allows the family to live very well financially. A lot of people would kill for that kind of money. People have killed for fifty bucks. It's a weird world we live in.

I got some info on this. Those claiming it was an “internal injury” are wrong. Those claiming his head was “fully decapitated” are wrong too. (It was pretty close..) The yellow tarp looking things on the slide where there is blood? He body isn’t under those. His body was covered by a white sheet next to the blue makeshift “fence” next to the slide. You can see part of the white sheet behind it.

If a liability agreement was required, how exactly were small children even allowed to ride this hellish contraption?
@lorieprice51008 жыл бұрын
the two women in the back had to be pretty hefty to have reached the weight limit with such a small child. i can see how having all the weight in the back could cause the front to lift up and the crest of the hill...thats how his head hit the pole. there wasnt enough weight in the front to hold it down. he shouldve been in the middle equally distributing the weight. anyone with a physics background could figure this out

For those wondering about Verrückt. The slide was built by people with no engineering background who basically just wanted to make it as tall as possible. This was also a park (Schlitterbahn KC) that paid to make sure they could do their own ride inspections, instead of the state doing it. I think I only went 2-3 times to the park but there was always something there that wouldn’t feel safe. The slide originally was supposed to have an age requirement of 14 to make sure patrons were the right size to prevent rafts from going airborne, but the day before the slide opened, park management removed the requirement so they could increase ridership. Also there was netting with metal support arches above the slide that was meant to catch rafts if they did get a bit of airtime The 10 year old who died on the slide (Caleb) was the son of a state representative, Scott Schwab. He had climbed to the top to ride down with his brother but because of weight requirements, the two were separated and his brother went down first and waited on him. When it was Caleb’s turn for some reason the attendant let a small child sit in the front of the raft with 2 fully grown women behind him, making the raft unbalanced. This meant that as the raft came up the hill after the drop, the lighter front section of the raft went into the air and was stopped by the netting… except Caleb hit one of the net’s metal support arches and lost his head, killing him instantly. And his brother had to watch the slide water turn red.
