I saw him in a small club in Houston a few weeks from this performance. EJ makes sounds other musicians don’t even know exist - he is amazing to this day and is planning to tour soon, if possible. I call him the “finest” guitarist that ever lived. 🎸

Eric claims he wrote this in 5 minutes one night and said it came from a higher place. Knowing how good of a guitarist he is, I can’t find a reason to disagree with him.

I love this song sooo much it's so nostalgic to me personally because this song is on Guitar Hero 3 which I played religiously as a kid. This is actually the only song I know by Eric Johnson, but this song, especially the live version, will motivate me to search more of his song now. SUPER underrated guitarist. I never see him mentioned as one of the greatest of all time. Nice reaction guys! And yes, I would've have him a standing ovation!

Great reaction, girls. Thank you. You truly did appreciate the excellence on display here. I love Eric, have seen him 3 or 4 times, going back to 1990. His sound is so clean! I love that guitar tone. He has a really good singing voice too. I think you'd also enjoy his songs with vocals. The ones I recommend are "Lonely in the Night"; "Friends"; "Venus Isle"; and "Battle We Have Won" -- all are excellent. I'm glad this was inspiring to both of you and Juliet, maybe it will inspire you to play more guitar. :-) Hope all is well with everything. Love from Boston.

I was about your age when I saw this on Austin City Limits way back when...it totally changed how I perceived the electric guitar as a musical instrument, and what it could do. Hair metal and British metal were predominant guitar styles at the time, and I liked them, but Eric was something totally different...and it totally sent me on a musical journey that has been over 30 years and counting! Here's hoping he sends you both on your own journeys of musical discovery!

I suggested this some time ago in a comment to one of your reaction videos (but not as one of your patrons) and finally you had the time to react to this masterpiece. I'm so happy you liked it so much. Eric Johnson often improvises/varies the main theme and thus there are different live versions available, some of them quite long. However, this version is considered to be the best one.

Thought you'd like that one. There are guitarists that are instantly recognizable, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dick Dale, Eric Johnson, Hendrix. You don't have to be told, from the first note there is no question as to who it is. Alright, Next up is The King of the Surf Guitar, the man who invented surf guitar ( and the Fender reverb unit, true fact, he did) Dick Dale. The song he is most famous for is, "Miserlou" but that is one song in fifty years of music. Dick is no longer with us, and the world is a sadder place because of that, but through the miracle of audio tape he can still be heard. Put on your board shorts and wax up your long board, With Dick Dale the surf was always up

EJ IS A TRUE VIRTUOSO guitar player !!!!!!!!!!!! EJ is the master of "HARMONIC SHREDDING"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on average every song eric johnson plays is on average 5 to 8 minutes longer compared to the songs on his CD'S !!!!!!!!!!!! so the next song you should check out if you have not already is "TRADEMARK" because the bottom line is that eric johnson truly does have a "TRADEMARK" sound no pun intended of course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EJ basically pulled out all stops, and used all he could to write essentially the perfect guitar instrumental song. He improvises a LOT during this live performance. It is still top notch though. If you really do want to get into extremely cool guitar music that is so good, it makes you as happy as this song did?....Check out Yngwie, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai.... And that's just for starters. If you really end up liking them, there are TONS of 'guitar gods' to get into. "Cliffs of Dover" is one of the best instrumental guitar songs I've ever heard. I tend to prefer the album version over live versions because its short and to the point. I don't know that the 2 1/2 minutes of noodling at the start was really necessary, especially for newer fans. But once the song proper starts, it's GREAT. I think the genius is that it's difficult to play, but it's built around a really simple repeating melody that helps anchor the song. My other favorite EJ song is actually a Christmas song. His version of "The First Nowell" is perfect. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJKteGVsZdF4jrM
