First Escalation to Scythe Fight by Paulus Hector Mair
Present yourself like so in this piece: When you both are going together, stand with your left foot ahead and hold your scythe on your right side with your left hand at the lower grip, your right on the middle one. At that moment cut to his left side, in around toward his right arm. If he cuts at you like that and you also are standing with your left foot toward him, and you too are holding your scythe on your right side with your left hand at the lower grip, your right at the middle one, then leap in a triangle and set his cut off outside in front with your scythe on your right side. Now step in there out of triangle with your left leg and cut at his neck. If he cuts high at you in that way, then step backwards with your left leg and parry his cut outside in front on your scythe. In the same moment, nimbly step in there again and wind your scythe behind your head and out from there with a cut from your left side to the right side of his head, and with that, step back away from him.

Thank you for your comment. We want to gradually go through Mair's entire work. And we especially like the fact that even in Europe these unconventional weapons were used and there were combat systems for them. And not just in Asia

Death from Darksiders 2 was good as well, he uses two scythes with blades as long as the handles that almost make me think of a Kukri (especially the variants with a recurve shape), which he can put together to form a larger polearm-- one blade going perpendicular, the other one going straight like a more conventional polearm.

Weren't some of the "treatices" on unconventional weapons meant as a sarcastic joke at the time? IE throwing a pommel to "end him rightly" etc?

It's hard to say if it was meant sarcastically. From our point of view, it was more of a marketing move. So that it would be something interesting and people would want to buy a book or pay for tuition. But who knows. Otherwise, with the thrown sword head, it is documented that some swords were made with a screw on the mandrel.

Take the Japanese for example, were the use of unconventional weapons was not only some specialisation of a Ryuha (school), but actually became entirely a school itself. The kusarigama and nishogama (the use of the sickle) are the main focus of practice of a swordsmanship school, so is the jodo (short staff) school as well. P. S. What I mean to say is that in the japanese martial world, it being so similar to the Europeans in most cases. In their way of thinking the "exotica" is more of a norm than an oddity. You find a lot of schools of the practice of odd weapons, just like in China as well. Why wouldn't that be the case as well in Europe?

In Mair's case it is unlikely. Mair explicitly says why he has certain weapons in his book. Really the scythe is the only true "exotica" here.

@@fratresinarmis6060With Mair, I am pretty sure that he meant what he wrote. Man wanted to create a compendium and almost begs the reader to take a good look at his book. He is pretty explicit with the weapons he included and only the scythe is really an "exotica".
