JBratt, I would love to see what you do to your boat. Maybe another interior video of what you have upgraded? Do you still sail with the racing team? Do you sail Candy o any other time? Like to see that too.
@jbratt7 жыл бұрын
Ray Konold The interior of candy is pretty much unchanged from the early video I made. The camera quality, resolution and editing are pretty bad, I need to make an updated version mainly just for those reasons. The guys I sail with on Wednesday nights just bought a new to them boat, a Farr 30. Its a handful compared to the J29. We are working to get the maximum of of the “new” boat. It will take a while but is a great challenge. Right now I have Candy-O somewhat disassembled because of Hurricane Harvey. It looked like we were going to take a direct hit, but the storm eye landed about 30 mikes north. To fit under my carport for protection, I️ had to removed the tabernacle and all the rigging. There was no damage to the boat but is not back together to get any sailing in this fall. I plan to get the boat into my shop this winter for some freshening up for the plywood boat festival in April in Rockport Tx, a town that was devastated by the hurricane. I’ll do a little update video when that all goes down. Thanks for watching.

Nice documentary. I'm interested in the boat designs and models. I recognise yours as being the CLC Boat PocketShip designed by John C. Harris. I noticed earlier a very nice boat at 7:43 called Mulsae (if I read it right) nice dagger boards on the side. What make and model is that? I'm at a wooden boat building school and these small craft interest me...

Paul Hitchman I can't remember the make and model of the boat you are asking about but it is a production boat and a great design for this event due to its shallow water sailing ability. Yes, my boat is a John C Harris design. The more I sail it the better I like it.

It was cool to see a pocketship completely by accident. Found CLC on my own when looking for small sailing craft and always had my eye on the PocketShip. I've yet to get the courage to try to assemble a whole ship but One day I hope to do it. The ship that caught my eye the most was the Mulsae with the red sails. I like how it looks like a speedboat hull with a sail sticking out of it and the side-board is interesting as well. I like how it's not hidden like a centerboard. (P.S. The "Mulsae" is actually an Edey & Duff "Dovekie" sailboat. Couldn't find any for sale online but it sounds like the plans for them may still be out there after the firm closed in 2010.)
@jbratt4 жыл бұрын
Gurren813 yes the leeboard design is a great shallow water design. Combine that with a popup rudder and it makes for a great “mind at ease” adventure. As for the CLC boats, the customer service and boat designs are excellent. I got to meet the boat designer a couple of years ago, John Harris is not only super smart and innovative, he’s a really nice guy.

My sister and brother in law picked up my truck and trailer down south and delivered it up north at the finish at the end of the event. Living almost at the midpoint of the course is a big advantage. Most of the guys drove their cars/trucks with trailers and park them at the finish. The organization charters a bus and brings everyone back to the start down south.
