Every generation HAS META BUT early on no one used the really broken cards. For example, no one on the playground or in school lunch used Pot of Greed, or Solemn Judgement because we didn't know how good they were. The internet wasn't there to tell us. There was no copying strats or deck profiles. But yea it was fun.
