The more I see new cars the more I appreciate the simplicity and small screen in my twelve year old SLK. I don't think it's easy to make an EV into a proper driver's car while they're so heavy, I think in five years that issue will be solved though. Great review.

Rubbish! Until you've drifted a two ton Jensen Interceptor around country roads you haven't lived. It helps to have lots of power! Provided you've got the suspension sorted a heavy but well handling car will get the adrenaline flowing as much as a Lotus Elan or Europa from the same period. I've owned and driven all three on fast rural roads and enjoyed them all equally. If the Europa is an Epee, the Elan is a Foil and the Interceptor is a Saber. They all get the job done, just differently. I do hate all the bling and slot machine interior styling of these new electric cars. They seem to be trying to compete with computer games and artificial reality when all we want are cars that go, stop and handle well reliably. I'm currently down to just six vehicles, most of them more than a decade old, and I don't think I've ever turned the radios on! I get in a vehicle to go somewhere, usually quickly, not to listen to music of people blathering. I prefer to hear the wind, tires and a muted but harmonic exhaust. I might have to get EVs that synthesize the exhaust noise the way the Hyundai N9 does. damn! Does that mean I'll have to have the radio on?

Good review! I’ve had mine for 6 weeks and agree the interfaces are over complex. There’s also some minor frustrating elements you didn’t touch on eg on the screen you turn volume up using the + on the right. Same for the fan speed but then on the haptic buttons it’s the other way around! It’s a lot of these little things that undermine a good user experience. There are a load of good points though! But updates need to take account of customer feedback.

At £55k, whilst the MG Cyberster is good value for being perhaps the only electric sportscar on the market ...it still seems expensive for the MG badge. An MG sports car should conceptually be more affordable, smaller and purer. It doesn't really seem to know what it is -1980s concept sportscar/ supercar / grand tourer? It feels too much of a mish-mash of ideas. Or am I missing something?

But in two years it will be a great option for many people, especially if they fix the annoying software either by an over the air update or a free upgrade at your local dealer. That said, it's clear from all the reviews, it's a GT and not a sports car, so still a great option for many who want the image and straight-line performance, but prefer comfort over on the limit handling.Depreciation can be your friend, and I'd be surprised if these drop below 20k anytime in the foreseeable future.

Good point about the screen layout and very odd software and such a shame they got it so wrong in what is otherwise a great car. I wonder how these issues weren't questioned before release as they seem obvious to me. The whole point of the (at least regular cyberster) Is the fact that no and absolutely NO cab in existence has all this gear , boot space and the horsepower looks and speed for this price. MG has done a funky fun and frankly cheap nice cab. And let me ask WHO tries to lock their car door before it is closed....ever lol what a stupid point. And come on i set the brightness on my cars screen day one and never adjusted them again in 3 years...who keeps doing adjustment on that? 90% of the issues with screens and other stuff is something you set once and you are done. The voice assist you can both turn off easily and turn the volume down while it is active. Time to actually read the manual for the car. The satnav can also be shown with arrows and directions right in the middle screen.....
@philippelamarque32192 күн бұрын
100% agree with you. Car reviewers blaming super clever engineers for them not being smart enough to read a manual or understand an OS. People are just lazy and entitled. Screens are actually awesome and driving position is very good for everyday and potentially long use. Unless you like rolling out of your car to get out at the petrol station, lambo style;). GPS has voice and repeats in the center screen so no issue with the steering wheel at all. Suspension is amazing and so confortable for 99.9% of people driving sensibly on a normal road (It might be too soft for a race track but honestly, no one goes there). And this is a GT btw not a race track weapon. Anyway, I'll leave the armchair sim racers criticize while I drive my stunning looking spaceship into the sunset. Camden grey makes it look like an Aston but this has the running cost of a suzuky swift! Thank you MG for creating such a special and amazing mid life crisis toy at such an incredible price. I love it. BTW my 6'2 son fits in it no problem. But OMG it doesn't have wireless apple car play ;) Who cares, really...
