I loved Blood Over Bright Haven. I really loved the way Wang dealt with themes (sexism, imperialism, exploitation, discrimination, immigration, appropriation) not just on their own but how they can interact (like how even the person on the receiving end of a ton of sexism and more can also harbor a similar bias against a different group of people). There are questions of whether or not intent matters more than outcomes- and all of this contained within a well developed, great paced story with fun characters and a pretty dark vibe.

Yes! I cannot get over all the themes the author tackled in this one book. I was really impressed by how complex all the themes were, this will definitely be one that will stick with me. It was interesting how the author had the main character experiencing the issue of sexism and yet the character then had to self-reflect on her own discriminatory biases, I agree with you, the mixing of the themes was so well done.

I bought Blood Over Bright Haven, but I haven't been able to read it yet. It sounds interesting. I know the ending for Sword of Kaigen was kind of controversial as well. Maybe that's just ML Wang's thing. Haha looking forward to getting to it soon.

Yes! It appears so, both books have such unique stories but they do not follow the typical flow of the usual stories. I enjoyed both of them so much but there is no much packed into them, especially with all the themes the author tackles. I hope you enjoy it! :)
