I think there's always something about mod project guitars that will make them special to us. Not just changing pickups. Anyone can do that. I'm talking about extensive modifications. Not nessessarily a refinish, but there has to be astetic changes. Almost all new guitars have various shortcomings. Once you identify the strong points and know what your after, upgrading the stuff that's subpar is easier. It's hard to describe the feeling a heavily modified guitar gives you when your playing it. Special, is the most accurate word. Very few factory stock guitars feel this way.

Hi Kris, just a thought. I had a Knaggs guitar with a matte nitro finish on it and I was able to use some light rubbing compound on it to make it have more of the VOS gloss. You might give it a try before you go to all the trouble of masking and respraying. Mine turned out great. Just a thought! Thanks for all your videos!
@maxo-mat5819 ай бұрын
I did the same with a Gibson LP 60s Tribute Goldtop with matte nitro. I polished the top and it worked well and turned into a nice VOS like gloss.

Still can't wait for your modded Junior. I'm going to tweak my upcoming one as well. Got the same problem like you: love the guitar - but not the finish. BTW: Thanks for making KZbin a better place 🙏🏼 Inspiring playing as always.

And I can’t wait to start it. But first… Namm Show. And lots of snow. And super cold in the Barn of Doom. 😆 As soon as it’s above the freezing point I’ll fire up the tools. 🧰

@@KrisBarocsi It's very fun and rewarding eh? my next project I think will be installing a Bigsby on one of my guitars..I need a Bigsby guitar. anyway I cant wait to see how your junior turns out....its going to be awesome! Cannot beat a TV Yellow Junior! Try not to get sick during NAMM..I hear it is bug city.😷 🤧

I've seen several videos on heat gun finish removal, where the guitar on the bench was an older series Mexican Stratocaster. The technique seems to be working alright, although I haven't tried it myself. Looking forward to your videos on the process. Cheers!
@KrisBarocsi9 ай бұрын
Yeah those MIM Fenders have a poly finish which reacts differently to heat. It’s hard to find one where someone removes Ginson‘s nitro finish that’s why I was so glad to find this one. I’ll be very careful obviously. 😅

I started watching the video, but wanted to let you know, I also ordered a Yamaha Reface CS from thomann. :D Hahahah waiting for it! Well along with guitar, I want to learn some keyboard as well with the Yousician.

Might be cool with the JR to try to scuff just the gloss, cover it over with your brighter color and then mildly distress it back so the black shows underneath. Like the Fenders CS that do the plain color over sunburst.
@KrisBarocsi9 ай бұрын
Uhh that’s actually not a bad idea at all. I’m only afraid to do that because the nitro Gibson uses and the much harder nitro I will use (less plasticizer) most probably don’t work well together.

What would be your preference between the LPJ and the Carey apprentice?
@mikecorey83709 ай бұрын
Do it if you want, but I would change a thing on that guitar. It sounds, and looks, beautiful.

Hey Kris, I'm really excited about both guitars, what they'll look and sound like in the end, they're two very exciting projects. I have another question about the OX Box, which cable did you use and how did you connect your OX to the interface?
@KrisBarocsi9 ай бұрын
Thanks man! I use two TRS jack cables between the OX and the interface (it works with both TRS and TS). In theory one should use a DI box after the OX but I never had any noise issues so I kept it this simple.

Hi, Kris, I have a small idea about 👉 light reflections👈. Have you used a polarized filter on your lens? They avoid reflections, expand contrast and, as cons take 1 EV of light. But not grey filters, just polarized. Just try, maybe You will like it. Thank you for your interesting content
@KrisBarocsi9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice I will definitely try a polarized filter. I mean I’ll still refinish the Jr.😆 but reflections are a constant problem when filming guitars. Cheers!

Nice Kris. Happy NGD. Are you gonna refinish the neck aslo on the LP or will you let it as is ans only focus on the body ? The number of sounds you can get from only one PU and the pots is really amazing !! And Happy new year 2024 !!!!!!
@KrisBarocsi9 ай бұрын
Thanks buddy! I’ll refinish the whole guitar which is gonna be a challenge. I need to figure out how to hang it up to be able to spray the whole guitar 😅

Like the sound of that Junior. Have you checked out the Eastman SB55/V their take on a Junior? I bought one and its a great guitar. Fattish neck but the finish is thin and flat. Lollar dog ear and Faber hardwear.

LP Jr. is just the coolest guitar IMO. I love my Teles as well, but man... A Les Paul Junior is just a beast. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Lukas Nelson '56 Les Paul Junior. It's incredible!

@ilmisxx29 ай бұрын
@@KrisBarocsi I much prefer chemicals and elbow grease for removing finishes. Heat is weird, the fish glue itlself does not release from heat but different materials expand and contract at diferent rates so I've seen neck pockets crack and get loose, bridge pins become too loose, ebony and ebonite fretboards crack, frets lifting slightly etc. I would also avoid high humidity environment combined with heat but since it's winter in europe, I guess that helps 😁 tv yellow is a damn cool color, so can'ta argue with that. What value are the tone and volume pots by default?
