As a native Australian, I would like to suggest they feed best on fear, and their most preferred habitats are a). bedroom ceilings right above your pillow and, 2) under car door handles and inside car mirrors. And yes, they are fast.

Hi Dave and Camera Lady! I once saw a huge huntsman when I was in Alice Springs down under in Australia. It was after midnight and a few of us were sitting on the back patio drinking wine and getting snockered. LOL. SO this spider was running fast because there was even bigger lizard trying to catch it. But They are a gangly spider. News here...I think my t.albopilosum is getting ready to molt. She's encased herself into a big ball of webbing. She's webbed every where. The top, sides and her hole. Can't wait to see what's going on when I get up in the morning. Until later. It's 5:30 am here and just got up. Imagine my surprise when I spy an egg sac? OMG! I wasn't expecting to be tossed into the hobby like this. My Baybee had babies!
@daveslittlebeasties3 жыл бұрын
Thats fantastic news now just leave her nice and quite for around 35 days or so if you want to pull the sack or just leave her to it and let her do the work , so exciting Linda so pleased for you 😂👍👍👍good luck girl❤️
@lindabriggs51183 жыл бұрын
I think I'm going to start calling her the virgin mary...lol. I mean really even Stephen, the one who bred and raised her to 3 inches, can't imagine how she got preggers. Of course when told him he laughed his head off about it. What's funny is I watched your video about pull the egg sac from one of your T's just last month! As I write this she is hovering over the top of sac and hasn't moved. I know she probably won't eat so not going to even try. Will check she has ample water though, every day. Since this is her first maybe I won't be too over whelmed with the number. Oh. One of the guys I work with wants a few and so does my oldest grand-daughter. But guess I have to get ready a spider nursery soon. Oh lordy, I'm still in a bit of a shock here...lol. I'll send pics when I can. Hugs to you both. 🤗🤗🤗🕷🕷 and have a few pints with me later. 🍻🍺🍺

Nothing like the Australian huntsman ours are HUUUGE... ... I hate them ... Too quick and tooooo big here. You can have them.. ..The last time I had one in the house it was the size of a bread and butter plate, and once I came down stairs to find thousands of baby spiders up on the wall all hanging of threads of webs.. Never jumped on so many pieces of furniture so fast as to get out of their way.. I have a spider phobia as you might have guessed by now.. They make my skin crawl which is surprising to me that I am sitting here watching your videos. !! Have fun and enjoy your hobbie.. I'll stick to my painting I think.. hahaha

Hunstmans have always wigged me out. In order to flatten to fit behind tree bark etc their legs are jointed differently to other spiders, so they don't move like you'd expect a spider to. And they have an awful habit of falling from ceilings onto unsuspecting children.

And adults.. yuk !! Hate them..

Maybe they're just less familiar to most people. Huntsmen have milder venom, smaller fangs, are more reluctant to bite, and even the largest species are way smaller than tarantulas (in terms of mass).

Rather doubt that. Australia's two biggest huntsmen (Typostola barbata and Beregama aurea) seldom get much over 16cm across. Birdeaters (Theraphosa spp.) frequently exceed 20cm and are far bulkier. The biggest huntsman is an Asian species called Heteropoda maxima, reputed to reach a legspan of 30cm.
