One feature of the Monteverde MP1 that beats the fool out of the TWSBI, imo, is its locking mechanism. Ever do an inadvertent slight turn when posting the cap on a pen whose filling knob lives under the cap? Inktastrophe! But locked? Nope. Thanks for pointing out other differences in the designs of the two models, so the bullies in the Blue Meanie department at TWSBI are less inclined to sue Monteverde for allegedly stealing features TWSBI didn't own the rights to to begin with. The Tom's ink looks a lot like the red from Jinhao, other than the glitter. Cool.

I have the MP1 in stealth, also with a broad nib. A more fair comparison would be to the Eco special editions which are also near the $50 mark. Yet you’re getting metal parts and the locking mechanism. As I use up the ink, I push air out and lock the mechanism again. It’s also a great feature for people that prefer to do partial fills with their piston pens. Mine is a fantastic writer and I found it well worth the price. As a big fan of Monteverde, I was super excited for this pen. They didn’t let me down!

Pushing the air out is useful for flying, but it doesn’t really do a lot for me otherwise. Similarly, you can always just do a partial fill on a piston. You just take it out of the ink before it’s totally filled. Is there something more convenient about doing it with the MP1? (Serious question.) Mine writes really well, too. I just wish the section weren’t so narrow.

@@inkdependence​​⁠at the end of the day, I think you’re totally right. I plan on continuing to use the pen, so I may as well use the feature. Anyway, bravo to Monteverde for trying something new. They blew it on the section, though. Facets always force me to hold the pen at the wrong angle. Thanks so much for the reply!

And that Tom's Studio bottle looks like the bottle Diamine uses for their own shimmer inks.

And the visual texture of the shimmer looks very much like the Shimmertastic swirls, too.

Yep. It does. Not surprising since they're both in the UK. Probably source some of their inks there, too, but I don't know for sure.

I hold my pens fairly far back, so the length of the nib is less critical. But I do find that a #8 nib really hits the sweet spot, encouraging me to hold the pen in the best place on the section. I really like that watermelon ink, even with the shimmer that I don't usually like.

Nice haul. I’m intrigued by the Monteverde pen, at present not tempted. I’ll wait until you do a Second Take before deciding. The Watermelon Ink is very pretty.

Monteverde always use the same cheapie feeds used on Chinese Jinhaos and Majohns fountain pens. I assume the nib is from Jowo but the feed isn’t. I always struggle with pens that use these feeds… Probably the reason I stay away from Monteverde and Conklin pens and it’s a shame, since they do have some nice models.

I get it. I haven't had any issues with this one, and I do like some of the Conklins, but MV can be a bit hit/miss.

The ink bottle looks like the Diamine shimmer ink bottles.

Yeah, you're right. I think a lot of these bottles are regional. Like how the German brands use those little flared ones. Of course, totally possible that they get them (and maybe some of the inks) from Diamine.
