This really is just a demo of the built-in analog cab simulation, which IMO is really not the selling point / use case for this device. The real purpose for this is as a load box to send your amp/power amp signal into a DAW and load in a cab IR either via the Two Notes software or other IR loader.

I have a 16ohm version. It's absolutely amazing, but I think it could benefit from a volume knob for the attenuator. Aside from that, I'm dependent on it and I love it.

I'd like to hear it side by side with cabclone, but BOTH with dry out and IRs. Everybody knows that the built in CC analog sim sucks, but very few people out there demoed it with IRs. I have it and it's not bad at all. Of course if this Captor works better, I'm ready to get rid of the CC:)
@TwoNotestv
@TwoNotestv 7 жыл бұрын
Cabclone is a well built product. The main difference would be that the Cabclone uses a resistive load and Captor a reactive one. Resistive tends to sound warmer and fuzzier, some amps don't like too much that type of load which impedance is in fact quite different from a real speaker cabinet. Reactive is closer to the real deal. Both are valid options in a studio environment.
@jettsom
@jettsom 4 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that you don't need it at all with this amp. The TC-50 has a resistive load built-in (speaker off switch). You can then use the raw signal (line out) from the amp with any IR loader in your DAW like torpedo wall of sound which is free.

Built in analogue cabinet simulation isn't too bad but wasn't expecting much anyway. Thankfully it seems like it meets expectations when recording the raw amp signal. Been waiting for this to come out for months now! Definitely be picking one up when I can afford to get a proper amp (5150iii or Misha's Invective.120).

I I just got one in the mail. I have a Laney IRT Studio for silent recording without spending Kemper kind of money. Crunch sound is quite good and it boosts nicely into saturation for lead. Very similar tone to my Suhr Riot pedal, but nicer I think. Down side is that in silent mode the amp cuts down to 1 watt from 15 watts. That means the clean channel has very little headroom and does not take the boost very well. I am hoping the Captor helps with that, plus it lets me try other amps into my interface and DAW. That said, I have been finding that I prefer to use Le Pou for practice, because it is not putting wear and tear on amps.

So in my little world, I've found a guitar cabinet sim which I use for every type of guitar that I record. I prefer to think of the cab sim as my preferred microphone setup... I've got an AFX currently, but I've narrowed down the amps I use on the AFX to a few, so I've been considering buying those amps and doing silent recording with the cabinet sim which I love. One of those amps is a Bogner Uberschall...which is 120 watts. However, I don't run it at full volume so I doubt it would be using the full 120 watts. Would that be safe to plug in to this or would that be somewhat explosive?

I bought this and just tested it out and am frankly disappointed and confused. I bought it for the attenuation, but I wanted to atleast be able to turn my Recto-Verb 50 up just halfway and get a good volume. It feels like it barely decreased the volume much at all. There will even be loud scratching sounds should I even slide my fingers down the strings and that was after I lowered the volume below halfway as I had hoped. What is going on? Am I just using this wrong? Does anyone know of a good forum for this question? I am hoping it is just my ignorance of the hardware and I can figure out how to properly attenuate with it, otherwise my next best bet is to likely look for a more expensive option when I'd really rather not

@ertreri
@ertreri 3 жыл бұрын
20 db is already something, but considering that at 1 watt you are already at about 90 Db of loudness. At 100 watt you are at about 110 decible. Or in the case of this article: www.puiaudio.com/pages/speaker-power-and-distance you would be at arround 113 and 116 decibels. So worst case 116 - 20 attenuation you are 96 decibels. So the attenuation is useless, you are still in the harmful range. IF you follow this reference: www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/tf4173#:~:text=A%20sound's%20loudness%20is%20measured,concert%20is%20about%20120%20dB. At 90 decibels that is shouting in the subway - you are destroying your ears. 20 Decibel attenuation is decen at as long as you are bellow 1 watt of power into the speaker. And remember this for home recording. So the power attenuator there is pointless, you need to buy a bugera or any other power attenuator to put in front of this power attenuator. You would need to use it with power attenutators in series :D.
@garysavill6975
@garysavill6975 3 жыл бұрын
erteri, I don't understand your point, don't forget amps have volume knobs, an amp is only making those high decibel numbers you quote at its max volume, -20db is a massive reduction in volume (about 1/4 the perceived volume), the point of an attenuator is to allow you to crank the amp up a bit to get the pre-amp tubes and power amp tubes working a bit (where a tube amp sounds at its best) but then reduce the volume to a more acceptable level.
@ertreri
@ertreri 3 жыл бұрын
@@garysavill6975 Well, if you reduce the master volume level in the knob you do not really need an attenuator right? If you get your 50 watt amp at 12 o clock the loudness in the room is unbearable, your neighbors will be calling the police. 20 Decibel is not a lot when you consider 1 watt of power into a high performance cabinet is putting you at 90 Decibel. You need to attenuate a lot more than 20 decibel to bring down the volume to a level your neighbors are not complaining. With attenuators like the Torped Reload or the Bugera SP1 you can attenuate to the point you make it all silent. that works fine. 20 Decibel... I am not convinced. It will still be too loud for neighbors that dont want to listen to you practice.

Does anybody just use a plain old combo amp with maybe a gain knob and a distortion channel and perhaps built in reverb at the most, and then use volume + EQ + a few basic pedals to get their tone? Not trying to be a smartass or a purist nazi or anything, it's just that I'm getting back into the game after a (very!) long time-out, and the amount of tech stuff available and seemingly used by most people (even rank beginners) is truly overwhelming. When used as loadbox-20dB then you lose much low in your sound the torpedo is absolutely not transparent!

This Attenuator only goed up to 100W. Will I be pushing it or my amp to hard if I use it on a 100W amp?
@KevinSparksatx

It won't damage the Captor. The only side effect is that you'll be working your tubes harder if the amp's MV is cranked. Not a big deal, but the tubes will have to replaced sooner

Trying to figure out if I should grab one of those or the torpedo live, mainly worried about latency while using the WoS with the captor vs the live. Any suggestions?

Can I use the 8ohms captor plugged On the 8ohms output of my Rectifier and plug the Captor on a 16ohms cabinet? Or i need to Match amp / captor / cabinet? Anyone?
@TwoNotestv
@TwoNotestv 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Francisco, the user's manual adresses that question, when using a cabinet in conjunction with the Captor, amp and cabinet must be on the same setting, the Captor internal load value doesn't matter.

I used to run my 120watt 6505 through my torpedo live (max 100 watt) and as long as you don't put the master at 10 it's fine.

How would this compare to the Mesa CabClone? Because I've heard that the CC is not that good and this one seems to sound decent !

sebastien pelletier this brand is all about cabinet modeling/simulation compared to mesa which is an amp company (incredible amps). Two notes specializes in this basically.
