(5-24-18) Today we get to ride some neat Otis gen2 elevators and explore the apartment building they are in! We ride both elevators in independent service, look at the machine room, check out an abandoned freight elevator, and see some of the unique features of this apartment building.

I would have much rather seen the old Monty's. The machine room for the decommissioned freight looks pristine! Any idea why it's off?

Probably so they don't have to maintain it.

I do wish they gave me a fire key so I could run the elevator non-stop like this. But the beeps that these made and the announcement of the arrival at the basement is what I heard each Friday. Now if you are wondering why it says "Basement" the way it does, is if you are in a place like Mercy, it lets the rider know if he or she went down too far. But this is a good video. At least you now have really gotten a sample of what I cleaned before I retired. I wish they would have bought me a bagless vacuum because with the gib tracks, everything I sucked out of there would have gone straight down the trash chute. Here at 1:52, we can also see what I also had to check on these elevators. That was the speaker. For the buttons, I would look at the fixture board, and I would touch each one to make sure the lights inside the buttons are working. At 2:02, we get a good look at the gib tracks. Those I vacuum and wipe the fine dirt out with a rag and a putty knife. When I would see something that looks more like a damaged floor indicator like scratches on it, I would try to get the elevator cab number and report it to my supervisor and they would write up a work order.

These look nice. The building would be an awesome place to live with the pool and rooftop areas.

What a neat video! It’s so cool to get to see the Otis Gen2 controllers as well as go on such an interesting building tour! I agree, the pool looks amazing and it’s cool to see the old Montgomery freight elevator although it is not really in use. Cool video!

Are those barricades blocking access to a room there?

Those were blocking entry to the logic room of the elevators.
