As someone who works in fashion industry, its understandable that people who's not in Fashion would make it seem like "it's just a ducking dress", but haute couture is so much more than that... haute couture is like, the blood, sweat, and tears of the designer.

It's well known internally at fashion companies that haute couture pieces are not supposed to end up on the red carpet unless they were purchased. I have heard stories of longtime customers, who in some cases buy entire collections, cancelling their orders after they see them on a celebrity.

While it’s true that I understand the other side, we must recognize that fashion is also a work of art with its own value and worth. There’s a reason it’s called “a one-of-a-kind dress”-it’s not easy to make, as it requires both money and a lot of time. So, we need to be considerate of how many pieces they can make and sell. Additionally, it’s about ethical practices. Let me give you a hypothetical scenario: The Mona Lisa is a very historic piece of art. Suppose Leonardo da Vinci’s descendants sold the original painting to a museum, signing an agreement stating that this is the only piece and no one else can have it except that museum. Because the Mona Lisa is a very valuable and historic painting, this makes sense. However, later, another museum ends up with an exact replica of the Mona Lisa, which should not exist since there was supposed to be only one in the world. Now, the first museum wonders, “How is this very valuable painting, which is supposed to be the ‘only one in the world,’ now not unique because there are actually two?” This situation would make you feel betrayed and lied to, and it would also mean the value of the art you bought decreased because it’s no longer rare. So, not only is your money affected, but you were also deceived. The same applies to fashion. These aren’t just everyday dresses; they are valuable pieces of art. A perfect example is the Robert Wun ‘Soul Dress,’ which shouldn’t just be bought by anyone and worn by everyone.

@@tagaway6173 it was the case for ready to wear collection, but not for haute couture, the haute couture dress are sold based on exclusivity wether it by country, continent or global, and by period of time. With different price ofc, it also has to be hand stitches, and fit by the buyer request. The house would made 2 similar clothes which one would be send to the buyer and one as a duplicate in case the buyer unintentionally damage or lost the dress. And only after the time period passed the fashion house would made the duplicate into their archive and lend it into some celebrity to wear into some event. Based on what i know they can't sold it either, the only chance they can resell it by making some altercation. The France made the rule, since Haute Couture only a term that used by France fashion house, fashion house from other countries called their collection as couture collection. Btw only big houses usually do haute couture since it's a losing business anyway.

The exclusivity fees START at 150K $US. Some can go as high as half a million US$. Somehow I doubt any social media influencer, no matter how popular, is going to pay that much extra for an haute couture piece. And haute couture does not mean exclusive. It means made by hand and fitted to the client.

Yea she was just buying pieces. She doesn't have ANY contract or receipts proving it or she would have released it or taken legal action. Also the brand loaned it to someone who would actually get attention. Some random Nepo baby/prostitute from china ISN'T bringing attention to the brand. Most are Nepo baby's showing off their nepo baby lives or they're paid mistresses of the elites. They're people nobody cares about except some chronically online chinese teenagers. Of COURSE the brand would want their work to be seen. And honestly I like the it on the actress. She wore it very well. Much better than some tacky over edited heavily filtered social media picture. Unless... SHE PAID EXTRA FOR THE PRIVILEGE SHE DOESN'T HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON OR SHE WOULD ALREADY BE TAKING LEGAL ACTION. 🛑 STOP 🛑 defending entitled spoil attention seeking brats. She KNOWS that she doesn't have a leg to stand on here and is exploiting the situation to stoke anti west hate in china and get the people to support her. They don't have any idea what is happening. Apparently what happened is that they never properly communicated that she needed to pay extra. She payed what was asked, reserved it, assumed that it was exclusive and was waiting to get the fitting right so she can get her bodysuit yet sees the look on someone else before she has a chance to wear it herself. That's a big no-no, exclusivity or not, the client should come first. She said herself that she has lent looks from collection before after she was called by the houses (pieces were modified so she has the originals). She knows the process so this blunder falls on Giambattista. This specific Chinese woman is a collector of haute couture (has a museum of pieces as she has been collecting for 10 years)..so the house lost big time with the bad publicity and I bet some people don't have jobs anymore, especially with how they reacted as in blaming her that she didn't pay the global fee when this wasn't communicated to her in the first place when she visited their atelier. They shouldn't have replied the press about it until after trying to soften the situation over with her..that was their 3rd mistake (1st not telling her the full price with the exclusivity cost which she always paid for all her other pieces, 2nd not giving her the bodysuit first - before lending) Her last reply about this situation is that she was ofered to make it unique for her..a bit late..the damage to their reputation is done and she definitely won't buy from there again. They lost her and probably more clients with how they first reacted to it.. So while people say this is rich people problems..if you try to put yourselves in her shoes you would probably feel the same annoyance..all she was asking for was an appology but was blamed instead for not inquiring about the costs herself.. Like..what?! If I'm rich and see this in the press, I would avoid Giambattista as I would feel their customer service is horrible.

While it is well known that the 'exclusivity' in nowadays fashion works a bit differently, at least I didn't want to witness a copy of my dress I purposely paid for the design worn by someone widely known by the public. The actual definiton of haute couture: a haute coture design house must: 1) employ skilled artisans The house must employ a minimum number of skilled artisans. 2)Create custom garments The house must create custom-made garments for private clients, with one or more fittings. 3) Present collections in Paris. The house must present a collection to the press in Paris twice a year, with at least 35 outfits for both daytime and evening wear. 4) Have a Parisian workshop The house must have a workshop in Paris that employs at least 15 people full-time. The term "haute couture" is legally protected in France by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, a government agency based in Paris. The criteria for haute couture were established in 1945 and updated in 1992. The term "haute couture" is French for "high sewing" or "high dressmaking". It refers to the practice of creating custom-made, high-end, and luxurious clothing and accessories. There is zero legal requirement to only make one piece of a haute couture design. That said, some houses might do this on an individual agreement basis with select customers, in which case there would be a legal contract to that effect. Therefore this video is utter clout chasing, and super lame.

She didn't pay a fee. It's all in the article shown in this video. That same article also says something completely different than the creator of this video. The whole start of the video about the brand not being allowed to sell the same article again is not true, sure it can be done like she states by an exclusivity contract but those are not a normal part of haute couture, From the same article that is shown in this video but apparently wasn't read: “Haute couture is a production model based on repetition and adaptation to a body but historically, it was rare that a client had exclusivity on a model,” said fashion historian Alexandre Samson, a curator at Paris’ Palais Galliera Museum. “Exclusivity arrangements, if any, are between the house and the client,” he continued. “There’s no tradition per se but generally the head of sales ensures that two clients don’t end up at the same event in the same design.” And in this case there was no exclusivity contract and Lu Min didn't pay for that.

No credible source ever covered the claim, and she would have a copy of the contract if it was true. There is no room, for "he said, she said" in this scenario, it's an incredibly provable claim. The fact is she only paid 27k in total, that's not enough for the dress AND the contract together. Everything points to her accidentally only buying the garment and then being mad at the company for not automatically giving her exclusive rights. 🙄 I'm sorry my last reply was hard for you to decipher but it seems like you're purposely being ignorant of what the two of us are trying to say just to be obtuse, because the other person said the same thing and you still don't understand. 🙃💖 nobody really needs you to regurgitate the content of a 1 min long video like you just did something pfft.

Basically what happened was miscommunication between the brand and the customer followed by bad customer service after the customer complained. The customer ordered the dress and payed a down payment thinking the exclusivity fee had been included. Then, before the customer even received her dress the look was worn by Anya Taylor Joy without the customer’s permission or knowledge which, exclusivity fee or not, is considered a huge faux pas. This woman in fact has been asked for permission in the past by haute couture houses to dress celebrities in dresses she bought and has had no problem with it but was obviously angry that Giambattista didn’t even bother to inform her they were letting a celebrity wear her dress before she received hers. The costumer complained and was made aware that she had in fact not paid the fee and to had insult to injury was then blamed by the brand for the whole incident despite the fact that this is someone who’s been collecting haute couture for an entire decade and thus clearly knows her way around acquiring haute couture. Conclusion, Giambattista just lost an important costumer (which is a big deal since not that many people world wide buy haute couture) and probably several others since this women is famous in Chinese social media for her haute couture collection and will most definitely talk shit about the brand to all her rich haute couture buying friends

It doesn’t matter if she’s been buying these things for a long time, it’s her responsibility to confirm she’s getting what she wanted. That seems to me like something you would specifically tell them you want, not just assume they would know you want that automatically. For all we know, the employee doing the purchase could have been new or didn’t know who the fuck she was to know she is entitled and expecting them to just know what she wants. There’s always 2 sides to a story and so far her side seems like she was in the wrong for assuming
@JessicaSilva-gq7zc
@JessicaSilva-gq7zc 6 ай бұрын
The thing is, haute couture is supposed to be exclusive. You have to pay for it to actually be exclusive but the assumption when you buy haute couture is that that’s what you’ll be getting. She didn’t tell them she refused to pay for the fee so it was fair to assume they had accounted for it. And even if she wasn’t intending on paying for it, it’s well established unspoken rule in haute couture that you don’t lend looks before you deliver them to a costumer who ordered them first and that doing so is incredibly frowned upon and a rude breach of etiquette. So even if you say she was served by a new employee or that she should have checked herself that doesn’t change the other, bigger offense, which would have been decided by higher ups who were surely aware of that but decided to do it anyway and hope the customer wouldn’t notice or at the very least didn’t say anything. Even then, the whole drama could have likely been avoided by a better thought out response by customer service. Whether or not the customer is right, if they have a complaint saying it’s not your problem, that it’s all the customer's fault and they’ll just have to deal with it isn’t exactly the right move, no matter how posh and filled to the brim with fake politeness your email is (these are rich socialites, fake politeness and disguised insults is practically their native language) will not help you in any way, especially when you as brand have so much to lose if you say the wrong thing

Lu Min didn't pay the exclusivity fee. She said the house failed to inform her that an exclusivity request has to be made and a fee has to be paid. Since they used to ask her permission in the past when they had to lend out designs she bought to big stars (even if she hadn't paid any exclusivity fee), she must have assumed that that was it. I suppose they let it slide as a courtesy thing since she was a VIP client of theirs. Perhaps this time they decided to apply the rules more strictly-no exclusivity request made or fee paid, then no exclusivity. Though they should've informed her about the request and the fee or even if she knew and thought she was just getting freebies for being VIP, they should've told her no more special treatments this time and that she must pay extra from then and onwards.
