I caught these two just after they landed. I was at the outlet mall in North Face and heard them. Only a fighter jet sounds like a fighter jet! A bit of brain work and I sussed them out at the Skyservice apron and took a couple of quick phone photos and I also had a very quick hello with two of the pilots as well. All in all, a good day!

grungy like all working fighter jets. go to a US air base where they have hundreds of 15's, 18 & 35's and you'll easily tell which ones fly and the ones that dont. Heard these guys fly over head at 1:00-ish am when they flew over my house on the island.

These are 410 Cougars, i think of them as Driver's School cars, cannot expect them to always be shiny and without scratches, they are for training purposes. But yeah i presume most operative ones can get some love, but it gets to a point that the paint itself might cost more of the value of our aging Hornets in an ironic joke style reply.

When I see these CF-18s I always thing of 1982-85 vintage vehicles which were on new car lots when these entered service. When I was a kid in 1984 I saw these same planes for the first time at an air show. They should have been replaced long ago, kudos to the pilots and techs for keeping them in the air.

Equipment, especially military, has an incredibly long service life. The B52 will be 100 years old when its retired, and most 4th generation fighters will be 60+ by the time they're retired. F18 is still one of the deadliest birds in the sky and a very capable jet.

I am an electrician and in the early 1980s I was working on the air traffic control tower at the Abbotsford airport the day before the air show. There was lots of taxiing and positioning going on and then a British Harrier warmed up and took off vertically. To the surprise of us tradesmen in the control room the pilot maneuvered to within 100 feet of the windows then did 90 degree spins in slow mo then some dips and jumps then backed away to the main taxiway, jumped higher and transitioned to fast forward. I can never forget that. Looking straight at a smiling pilot across the nose of a Harrier.

When we were kids growing up on Vancouver Island CFB Comox was and still is a military base. Back in the early 70s you could go out almost any night and the Voodoos would be doing full after burner take offs and touch and go full after burner take offs. Never forget the the flames and noise. Even got to see a Voodoo crash into the ocean a few hundred feet off shore, both ejected one landed in a tree and one landed in the water. Both ok. Cool to see.

They were odd to me because I’ve been working here for 10 years, I’ve observed the incoming and outgoing flight paths from Vancouver airport, and never has one, let alone two jet powered aircraft flown over my head like that. Langley airport is located very close by, so it’s very common to see prop planes and helicopters, but no jets. I even took a picture of the contrails because it was so unusual. I think it must’ve been these two planes.

Awesome video! Are they so dirty just because they haven’t been cleaned or are they corroding and the paint disappearing? Awesome jets tho 🇨🇦🇺🇦👌
