I am an electrician and in the early 1980s I was working on the air traffic control tower at the Abbotsford airport the day before the air show. There was lots of taxiing and positioning going on and then a British Harrier warmed up and took off vertically. To the surprise of us tradesmen in the control room the pilot maneuvered to within 100 feet of the windows then did 90 degree spins in slow mo then some dips and jumps then backed away to the main taxiway, jumped higher and transitioned to fast forward. I can never forget that. Looking straight at a smiling pilot across the nose of a Harrier.
