Hardcore characters can only play with other hardcore characters. And vice versa for normal characters. The other two guys made a hardcore character and they all linked up

This is a pretty incoherent comment. You can play co-op on hardcore. We did this with fresh characters on the highest difficulty. Does this clear things up?
