since nobody has answered where they get these guys: auditions, street casting, dance/vocal/band competitions, etc. and then they train them, usually for years, before they can debut. and trainees that don't make enough progress can be cut, no guarantee you'll ever make it. basically just an intensely competitive environment

Yeah the song ain’t innocent it was made obvious when they adjusted some of the lyrics in the English version 😂 New viewer here, I enjoyed you guys reaction and I strongly recommend the group EXO like STRONGLY. Here’s some EXO songs I recommend to you guys: MAMA - EXO-K, What Is Love - EXO-K, Monster - EXO, and Obsession- EXO. EXO previously used to be divided into 2 groups EXO-K(Korean) and EXO-M(Mandarin) however since 3 members left EXO-M they’ve been grouped into one group EXO. You guys definitely won’t regret watching this group.

LOL! You're both right. It's about these guys being kind of your seductive genies and for your birthday, they'll do anything you want... and what do you think would be wished for by most??? 😜 Kpop groups try to avoid being blatant about a song being about sex - so they add other elements that would allow a person to interpret it in a more innocent way. (There are also some very young Kpop fans watching these MVs as well.) For me, the innuendo is so much more fun and watching them try to explain what a song like this is about without mentioning sex is a HOOT!

NCT's whole group concept is based on dreams, so in NCT-U's "Make a Wish (Birthday Song)" they talk about making a wish like on your birthday because wishes are often things you dream of happening. Everything NCT does is about dreams, dreaming or being in a dream state. Therefore, that is the story you will see being repeated and referenced in all of their MVs across all of their sub-units. And, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of a song is pretty much how all of NCT's songs are structured, as well as the majority of SM Entertainment's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a lot of the songs you listen to from SM. SM always makes sure to have parts that specifically showcase its group's unbelievable vocal abilities and sections that are designed to show off their amazing dance skills. If you like their dancing you really have to check out the dance practice for "Make A Wish (Birthday Song)," kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWeVoJiCZpmlh9k. And if you want to see them learning the dance they have uncut behind videos of their dance practices, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXubZmptl9iias0. NCT are known for their dancing and they have a dance practice video for almost everything they do. Plus, if your interested in how everything was made, they have behind the scenes of them filming the MV, kzbin.info/www/bejne/anS3d6yBmZmGoa8, and videos of them in the studio recording the song, kzbin.info/www/bejne/mImQfZuld7Z3bpY, etc. SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. So even the company's rappers receive intense vocal training. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, who also happens to have some of the industry's top dancers. All of SM's artists and groups are known for having out-of-this-world vocals and perfect harmonies. SM is an expert at finding and developing the best singers and dancers in Kpop. NCT-U was NCT's first sub-unit, which debuted in April 2016. NCT-U is made up of pretty much all the members, they just add and subtract members from all the other sub-units depending on the concept for the song. NCT-U songs span a wide range of styles and genres and can include anywhere for all the members or only 1 or 2 members. The U stands for United, but I also like to think of it as Universal because of the way the group never has a fixed number of members. This sub-unit is designed to be fluid, which means the group is constantly changing and rearranging its members. As you saw, "Make A Wish (Birthday song)" has 7 members -- Taeyong (NCT's leader, main rapper, main dancer), Doyoung (main vocal) and Jaehyun (main vocal, sub-rapper and visual), who are members of NCT-127; Lucas (rapper and visual) and Xiaojun (main vocal), who are members of WayV; Jaemin (lead rapper), who is a member of NCT-Dream; and Shotaro (main dancer and vocalist), who has not been made a member of a fixed group yet. NCT -- which stands for Neo (a pop culture term that means new/original) Culture Technology -- currently has 23 members. And the group right now has 4 sub-units -- NCT-U, NCT-127, NCT-Dream and WayV. The way NCT works is it's a group with an infinite number of members. (There are an unknown number of trainees who are still waiting to debut who could potentially become members of NCT.) As SM Entertainment's male trainees graduate from the training program and SM decides they are ready to debut, they become a member of NCT and they debut as part of one of NCT's sub-units. (They just added 2 new members -- Sungchan and Shotaro -- at the end of 2020, who are expected to eventually become members of a new sub-unit.**) **NCT probably will be growing to 26 members soon. SM has been showcasing 3 new SMRookies -- Shohei, Eunseok and Seunchan -- lately and a few months ago they performed at the SMTown concert with Sungchan and Shotaro. So, by all indications, it looks more and more like NCT will be getting 3 new members and they probably will be part of the new unit. It's speculated that the next sub-unit will be a Japanese based unit because Shotaro and Shohei are Japanese and they have recently been doing a lot of promotions in Japan. NCT is one of the most internationally diverse groups in all of Kpop. The members as a whole currently represent 9 different countries and they speak 8 different languages. For example, there are 10 native Korean members (*Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, *Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo and SungChan), *Mark is Korean-Canadian, *Johnny is Korean-American, Yuta and Shotaro are Japanese, *Ten is Thai, Lucas is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, *YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle). However, they all live and work in Korea, so everyone speaks Korean fluently. Plus, many members have attended international schools or lived abroad, so there are several members who are also *fluent in English, on top of speaking 2 or more other languages NCT is a group that is constantly changing and rearranging its members and sound and we never know quite what to expect from them. With an infinite number of members and a concept that allows the members to rotate between sub-units, changing, adding and subtracting members depending on the concept and style of the group or song, you should never expect the same thing from them. You are better off always expecting something new, that somehow, also ends up sounding very much like NCT. LOL NCT is SM's attempt at taking over the music industry around the world. SM's original goal was to eventually have NCT sub-units representing every major city in every country in the world. For example, they might take several Japanese members and create a Japanese sub-unit, or put together members from Thailand and create a Thai sub-unit, etc. It has always been SM's plan to have world domination. And to that point, right now NCT-127 is the group that SM is using to try and get their foothold in the U.S. music market with English versions of song like "Regular" and "Highway to Heaven" and collaborations with American artists such as Jason Derulo, as well as U.S. concert tours and promotional tours with the American media, etc. So, this year is NCT's 7th anniversary, but debut dates are different for any number of members because it all depends on when they were added to the group. And many of the members of NCT actually became recognized by fans even before debut because they were part of SM's pre-debut group project called SMRookies, so SM did activities with several of the members before they debuted.

Loved all the information you provided and pretty much all accurate but now the group's concept of infinite members is now not infinite. SM came out with a statement a few months ago the infinite concept has ended and will not be adding more members after NCT Tokyo when they debut 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.

@@TheCutestChris18 Yep, thanks. I have also read that same announcement. Hence, why I mentioned it was the original plan, not necessarily the current one. However, with that said, its hard to give a definitive answer when nothing has happened yet, you never know what they may decide to do in the future. Therefore, I chose to air on the side of, I'm still going to wait and see what happens. :D Once something changes and they actually start to make those moves, my comment will reflect that. I mean at one point SM made it clear that NCT-Dream was a revolving group with a plan for members to graduate when they turned 19 and they announced it to the world, then 2 years later they reversed course and flipped the switch, so we never know. Just because they say one thing now, doesn't mean it will end up exactly that way.

So the line about "hitting that line" is probably about calling them? (like hit that phone line up) It's definitely not a reference to drugs lol. Drugs are way more taboo in Korea compared to that States. The prison sentences are way more harsh and the celebrities who do get caught in drug scandals can either lose or severely damage their career by it. Like it's very different there compared to the US in terms of how normalized/acceptable it is. So any reference to drugs in kpop songs are just like very metaphorical ones (stuff like your love is a drug, i'm addicted to you, etc) and there wouldn't ever be like a direct reference to a specific drug in any like remotely mainstream kpop song (krap it's a bit different but still way less drug references compared to America).

You have no idea so many young south korean and chinese and thai and american and more wants to be a kpop idol lol. They go into the Kpop business willingly and train so hard for years before making a debut sometimes they don't even get to have a group and they're let down by the company. but yeah it's an entire industry with a lot of controversy but Kpop is kinda like a culture it's not just a genre anymore 😂
