I don't know how it is for the k-pop industry now, but BTS can do whatever they want. They were more restricted in their early years as they followed a more typical model when they first started. Also, they were just too busy without any rest or breaks for years. They don't give out personal details like that though. They don't talk about it and although we might want to know all the details, real ARMY just want them to be happy and also for them to have the privacy they deserve. Also I feel like this song could just as easily be about a toxic friendship.

Seesaw really is a perfect extended metaphor, it works so well. Even if one person chooses to get off, the other person still sitting will definitely be thrown upwards/shocked/hurt (have you ever been at the bottom end of a seesaw when the person on top jumps off? Not pleasant 😅) Many kpop idols have “dating bans” written into their contract. BTS never had that, they’ve always been “allowed” to date, but so far, they’ve been intensely private with any potential relationships. So we don’t know anything about their dating lives at all (there have been rumours/paparazzi/stalkers speculating, but nothing officially confirmed) - which is good for them, honestly. They share SO much with the public, they deserve to have things for themselves. We don’t even know their sexualities, which is also understandable since if any members are queer and were open about it, it would probably cause a big backlash, especially since South Korea’s quite conservative with some explicitly homophobic laws. Sad reality of such a publicly broadcasted life... Either way, I hope they’re all happy whatever their personal lives and relationships look like 💜

Hi! About the dating ban, I don't know the exact details but my understanding is that all k-pop companies impose that on their "idol" artists for at least the first few years... but keep in mind that a LOT of k-pop idols debut when they are still underage! And most of them definitely start training when they are underage. They live in dorms instead of with their families which... Yeah, without supervision it has the possibility of things going very wrong as they are basically teenagers in a high stress environment. Depending on the company/label, artists are allowed to date publicly a few years after debut... but here's the thing: once they are adults and the group is established enough I don't think they still have a dating ban just a dating PUBLICLY ban. There is something a bit off I feel in this k-pop culture in that the idols have to appear to be available so as to not upset the fans (even though there might be like 1 chance in a billion that an idol would date a regular fan). That feels wrong to me (although that's just my personal opinion) but it has the merit of protecting their privacy and protect them from scandals and crazy fans who would go after them or their significant other. So, long story short, I'm pretty sure all BTS members have dated. We just don't know about it...
@TripTipsPodcast Жыл бұрын

@@TripTipsPodcast Idols (who date publicaly) would loose some fans, especially if their fanbase is on the younger side... For BTS specifically it might have happened at the beginning of their careers but now, 10 years later, they have a very diverse fanbase so I think that wouldn't be as much of a problem for them. As for the crazy obsessed jealous fans... even if there is let's say only 5 such fans in a million... They have millions of fans, so that's potentially enough to do some harm unfortunately 😥 And it wouldn't necessarily be physical harm but it could be finding every little thing about that person, criticizing everything, starting fake rumors and trying to cancel them, whether they are a celebrity/public figure or a regular person. It could rapidly become intolerable.

Suga jokingly called himself “genius” but all ARMYs know it to be true. His songs perfectly reflect emotions that many have felt. I am proud that he doesn’t shy away from topics that others wouldn’t cover because songs like these help people identify, reflect, and deal with their own emotions and past. In some companies they have restrictions about relationships but I think in others they just don’t want artists to publicize it. There is a feeling wrongly or rightly that they would lose fans because there are those fans that like to “dream” about being in a relationship with a particular artist. 🙄 I think most ARMY would be very welcoming to a relationship because we want our guys to be very happy but we also respect their privacy. They don’t have to nor should tell us everything. I have not heard that BigHit has this restriction on them and would be surprised if they do with their status and age.

Suga has the most heartbraking lyrics ever but at the same time he also has the most angry lyrics. you really get to know suga through his music because irl he is very quiet and dont show affection. so it´s his way of healing himself through his music. and it´s so beautiful so see it´s like getting a peek inside his journal when he release new music. it´s the same for RM too. they are both very honest and raw and dont hold back but RM is more poetic in his lyrics using alot of metaphors. J-hope is more positive in his lyrics but that´s just his personality if you want to have a good time with music it´s j-hope you are drawn too. if you want your eyeballs to have a feast along with heavily vocals and good music it´s jimin he draw people in and you can´t stop looking at him. they each have something unique. Jin´s high voice perfect for dramatic ballads where you feel his emotions.

Most kpop rules dont apply to BTS since they built their company from the ground up even in their own company other idols expressed not being able access certain areas that BTS are. Idols aren't allowed to go live without a staff present, BTS can. Idols typically can't date, but based on song lyrics, it's obvious that BTS do. Once you get deeper into them you'll come across content of them doing exactly what they want disregarding silly rules and the company just has to deal with it.

Bang PD gave the guys freedoms from the beginning that many didn't have. The biggest block to relationships is time. From before debut until their first official break in fall of 2019 they worked non stop. Not really time for relationships. The industry has gotten better when it comes to idols and romantic relationships but it's still a privilege to be able to date; especially for female idols, there's a form of purity culture and the moment they start dating, s*x is assumed which "ruins their pure image." In the end, both male and female idols are surrounded by a substantial amount of toxic fans who will riot the moment it turns out that their fantasy girlfriends / boyfriends date each other (there's a lot of context here from misogyny in East Asia to corporations catering to teenage obsessions so this is really just a fraction of a huge topic). When it comes to BTS, rather than being a matter of restriction, they have always maintained a bit of a healthy distance - as much as they love ARMY and ARMY loves them, our relationship should never cross certain boundaries and this includes ARMY respecting their privacy. BTS most definitely had and have partners - they could be female, male, girl/boyfriend, long-term, short-term, a celebrity or non-celebrity, a husband or wife...but it's really none of fans' business. SEESAW was part of the Love Yourself album series, specifically the third album Love Yourself: Answer. Conceptually, the three albums, HER, TEAR and ANSWER followed a "love story" wherein the protagonist meets a fate-like love, is consumed by their own insecurities then eventually realizes that love starts with loving oneself. I put "love story" in quotes because the love in question can be romantic or platonic as it's not clearly defined lyrically. Yoongi experienced quite a lot growing up but he also has an interest in psychology, so the song could be about a relationship he was in or something he witnessed in humans in general.

If you want to see Suga singing other than rapping, try checking out his song People Pt. 2 in his Agust-D album. There's an official MV of it which is just a chill vibe but the lyrics are deep and raw. Aside from this he has other songs in his DDay album where he's also singing and not rapping like his version of BTS's Life Goes On and SDL (Somebody Does Love) to name a few.

If my memory serves me correctly... Yoongi said in one of the BTS movies/documentaries that this song was about a relationship that over time became toxic and that at that point in the relationship the two people involved didn't feel anything for each other, but neither dared to end the relationship. Yoongi said that he wanted to make a song like that because he had read that the music you listen to in the first 20 years of your life is the one that has the most impact on you and you usually remember it forever (or something like that), so he wanted a song with a slightly more mature theme like that to have some significance for his fans. Personally, the first time I heard this song I liked the melody, but after a while when I heard the song with subtitles it was just..."Wow!" literally at that moment I was going through a toxic friendship and that song hit me quite hard, so much so that I even cried because I realized that that friendship of 5 years had become toxic and that I had to cut ties with that person :(

Sorry to hear about your friendship. I think we all have gone through something similar at some point in our lives. That’s what makes this song so relatable.
@moon_julie Жыл бұрын
@@TripTipsPodcast Don't worry, at the time it was a bit difficult but ending that "friendship" was the best thing I could have done, it was like taking a huge weight off my shoulders, and yes, the song is very open to interpretation and anyone can identify with it.

Seesaw can be about a relationship or a relation, doesn't have to be lovers. Also the industry doesn't forbid dating, maybe at the beginning, and not publicly, but I doubt that those guys and girls don't date and have relationships. Some even get married and then it's release that they have been dating for r1, 2 or years

Also FYI, kpop idols DO date, they just do it secretly. The kpop idols even date other kpop idols. It's just that when they get caught, their carreer in Korea takes a big hit. The Korean fanbase is generally not forgiving of kpop idols dating, they imagine they have ownership over kpop idols. And as others have said, at this point, it really isn't forbidden for BTS to date. Their carreer is big and stable and worldwide enough to not be affected. However, it's rather a choice of the BTS boys to keep their dating life private. BTS actually have very clear boundaries of their privacy. Yes, they are public figures, but that's just their work. The boys try their best to protect their homes, their families, their friends, their love life and just overal everyday life. Amd their company actively works to protect this for them. Their private lifes could easily be used to add gossip and boost their carreers, but they will never do that. Any type of gossip or rumor in the past (even if they were true) were kept extremely quiet, and they just followed with a lawsuit for invasion of privacy. Because of this, ARMYs also actively try to protect their privacy too.

BTS does not have real restrictions about dating, but they not talking about their personal (love) life. Part of it because it wouldn't be beneficial to their careers as even now Korean fans often very sensitive about all these parasocial relationships with idols and taking it too seriously, but I am sure that another reason is BTS' desire for privacy. They put their entire lives out there for us and they just want some things only for themselves. We don't know if they are dating or not, we don't know their family members names, we don't know how most of their family members look. And we shouldn't know, it's not our business. All ARMY care about is that all BTS members and their loved ones are happy and healthy. Our main interest is their work and wellbeing, not their love life. But of course we will be happy to hear about their marriage or kids one day. You need to understand that for idol putting your partner out there in public is dangerous for that partner. Like, people are writing nasty things under Instagram posts of actress who played Jungkook's girlfriend in his new Seven MV. And this woman is very popular actress. Same was when there was rumours that Suga dating Suran (famous solo singer). Or V and Jennie of BLACKPINK. Both parties received a lot of hate for nothing and none of these rumours was even confirmed. Imagine if idol's partner is not famous and just regular person. This would be very tough for them.

BTS aren't under the restrictions that other groups might be under. Hitman Bang said all that he required from them was that their music be about their own thoughts and feelings. Everything else is left up to the boys. In the past they have said that they simply don't have time to meet someone, get to know them and dating. Now that they have been on break for a while I wouldn't be surprised if some of them dated. They have also talked about dating before they became BTS before.

You've commented on the dating thing in a few videos now and I see people are generalizing it in the comments again lol Many companies have a 'no dating' rule for the first two or three years after debut as the hope is they will be too busy for relationships and, again only for some companies, it is thought to ruin the fantasy aspect of an idol for fans. But other companies don't have this rule. For example Chen of EXO and Taeyang of BigBang, who are members of two of the most popular KPop acts of all time, are both married with children. Taeyang's solo song Eyes Nose Lips, one of the most popular solo songs of all time, is blatantly about his longtime girlfriend at that time (her picture is even dramatically revealed at the end of the MV lol). As for BTS' company Big Hit, they are one of the ones that do not have rules in this regard.

I don't think BTS has a dating ban but the company might encourage them to keep it on the down low. Some companies do enforce a dating ban in the first few years most from the start of their debut, usually the first 3-5 years of their career. Idol groups have a shelve life (because of the fast paced saturated idol market) and most groups don't last that long unless you have a big enough fanbase that keeps supporting them. There are a lot of videos about "the dark side of kpop" that generalize pretty much every aspects despite it being done in some companies only. From what I gather BTS members have dated before their debut, they mentioned it. I do believe that they or some of them did date after they debut too we just don't know it nor must we know of it. Suga mentioned that the song is about toxic relationship so it could be any type of relationship be it a friendship or even love interest. it's up to the listener to interpret it. Most Armys don't really care if they dated or got married. It's the minority that is the toxic ones that are loud about it. Most Armys don't consider those so-called fans as Armys. Many don't even call themselves Armies as they are solo stans of 1 member only. For instance, when V and Jennie dating scandal (rumoured) got out, Jennie did get more hate (as far as I see) but most (like a majority chunk of it) are from V's solo stans.

As always, you need to delve deeper. BTS rarely sing about a romantic relationship but at face value, it can be taken that way. This was written in the period before Outro: Tear where they reveal that they had contemplated disbanding. I petsonally think the rollercoaster of emotions and the imbalance the seesaw depicts is about that. They grew much bigger than expected and were emotionally and physically exhausted. Just a theory though and this is the joy of music, it is open to personal interpretation. I am really enjoying your reactions more and more as you both start discussing what you are seeing and hearing. Thank you for continuing on this journey, borahae 💜

Yeah BTS can date all they want. They have said they just didn't have room in their busy schedules and were concentrating on career. But they are grown men. Of course they have had relationships off camera. Even regular idols only have no dating clauses in the initial years. Bearing in mind many are minors at debut and the company is in a quasi parental role.

That makes sense.

Suga writes or participates in writing of many Bts songs, not just the rap ones. Everyone don’t come after me for my opinion, but, no way all these grown men don’t have relationships. They would not be able to write songs like this just based on other people’s stories. I think people sign Nda’s. I think trey are respectful of their conservative culture and the fact that some of their fans are young. I also don’t think they date as much. They avoid scandal. Not like artists in the US who seek controversy. I also think Bighit is a leniant company for their adult artists. I think there might have been stipulations in their first contract, but not their second. The fame would be hard enough already, more so if these grown men were forced in to living like monks. They are kind beautiful people and deserve the whole human experience. Part of the meaning of Haeghum was to lift the ban on freedom. Suga even said that he doesn’t like restrictions on people but that freedom can be mistaken for decadence. It’s the reason he smoked in it. I think he would like the industry, everyone to stop coming after idols. They will probably continue to hide relationships for awhile until idol culture evolves. Just my opinion, and I’m old, so cut me some slack pretty please.
