@@janeevans5132 Hi Jane, I like your idea of camping in your garden. Another viewer mentioned the same. You both have given me new ideas. I too have mobility issues, diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was 21. Fortunately my arthritis has been slow progression with little deterioration. I try to keep myself moving and believe that has helped my RA overall. As much as I’m able I try not to let pain dictate the course of my day. Of course there are days when one needs to rest the joints more than other days. We learn to listen to our body. Most people don’t know that I have RA but my husband knows and he’s aware of when I need help. Trusting for the best for you.

My husband bought one of those Napier tents last winter and I thought it was gimmicky...we have a pop up camper and a bunch of tents we use to backpack, so I didn't see the need for it. We took a vacation last month to Pictured Rocks in the UP of Michigan and camped at a "tent only" campground. We used the attachment to extend to our van and slept in there. I was really impressed! We used the tent area as a "living room" and set up our chairs and doggie beds in there. Best sleep I've had in a long time. I appreciated that we didn't have to climb up from the ground but just climbed down from bed to the tent. I also appreciate that it is a freestanding tent, as we did a lot of sightseeing and just detached and went. We're not seniors yet, but we intend to do this as long as we can!

It’s wonderful to see a senior couple camping together. I’ve always wanted to camp. I’m now 61, alone and have difficulty with mobility. For 30 yrs now, every summer I watch videos of others camping, which is enjoyable and I can pretend I’m also there but it’s also heartbreaking because I can’t do it. I’m happy to see other seniors (I still don’t think of myself as a senior😂) can continue camping and enjoying themselves. Thank you for sharing your adventures. Your hubby really liked sleeping in the suv with you, especially because of the cuddle time. 😊 Keep enjoying yourselves and stay healthy.

Thank you for sharing. You're right, you are a young senior...lol... 61 is young. Sorry to hear that you're alone, on your own and also have mobility difficulty. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was 21. Little did I know that it would be a slow progress, not like some where it's fast going with deterioration. My best time is mornings. I have good days and bad. On the bad days I let the pain dictate the course. Other times I fight it not wanting to let it determine my day. There is a balance, I think, as much as possible, letting the pain determine the day and forging forth in spite of the pain. On the days of the Two Senior Camping, I was having a couple good days. Thanks again for sharing. Cheers!

Excellent video. I'm 84 years young and have been tent camping since I was 10 years old. For local (Canada/US) we camp out of our Nissan Frontier truck and canopy with a sleeping platform and pull out slides for cooking and utensils etc. We put a tarp over the back with four poles and we're off. At 75 years old my wife and I took a six month lease on a Renault Kangoo in Nice France, and bought our tent, camp cots, cooking gear, utensils, bedding etc at Decathlon Sporting Goods and Carrefour Supermarkets. We then went on a 30 country tent camping tour of Europe staying at some great camp grounds and. visiting many non touristy locations. Furthest North we got was Oslo, Norway. Furthest South was Sorrento, Italy, furthest East was Istanbul, Turkey and St. Petersburg, Russia, and furthest West was the Atlantic Ocean on the Algarve cost of Portugal and Cadiz, Spain and all points in between. Fantastic trip, and the cheapest and best way to get around Europe.

Hi, Sue and Stan. First off, Happy Belated Birthday, Sue! Secondly, I think it's great that you two get in some quality time and enjoy the great outdoors together! I'm 65 and my wife is 64 and although we used to go camping with our 2 children in our Toyota Sienna mini-van, since they've grown up, we've not been camping together. However, I recently purchased a Subaru SUV and we have begun taking trips to and camping at our national parks which has been great fun! We don't take too many things along with us, so if we confront really bad weather, we can sleep in the back of our SUV, like you folks are able to do in your CRV -- this is so convenient! Wishing you both many more wonderful adventures together! Liked and subscribed.

I love your freezer food idea. I think I will incorporate that into my plans. We know Melbourne. Stanley has a sister in Belgrave. Beautiful place. I have a very similar car and tent and as a lone senior camper was unable to put it up by myself. I saw a video of another senior lady that found by putting the sleeve on first, it held some of the weight of the tent and allowed her to put it up alone. Watching how you did that first, I can see how it would partially hold the tent up to allow me to bend the rods and think that may work for me😁. Even if it slides off, once the rods are set up I can do the rest.

Due to severe tremors, I no longer knit but still crochet hats, mittens, scarves and neck warmers for the homeless and schools in the area. I love the tank tops and shawls that you have knitted. It has inspired me to attempt making them again but finding it very hard with these tremors. Its going to take me a while to put one out. Please keep posting more knitting. I love watching and so glad I came across you channel. God bless!

Thank you so much for your message. You are courageous in persevering with knitting and crocheting. So sorry to hear about your tremors. That must be really hard. I’m glad my knitting videos have inspired. No matter what, I will continue to put out knitting videos. I do enjoy it a lot. I may even put out a crochet one here and there because I’ve crocheted since I was 16. My sister taught me and she was 12. When I lived and worked in Newfoundland for 10 years I began to knit, because they do a lot of that out there. Then I dropped it when I moved back to Ontario. During Covid and the lockdowns we had, the first thing I did was get some wool and start working on a knitting project. Now, I’m trying to expand my skills learning how to knit lace and other stitches. My next knitting video will be about cotton yarns, how well they stand up to washing, and what I plan on doing with them (Christmas ideas). Other projects more time like the lace top I’m knitting, so it’s fun to have short projects. I knit while we watch baseball. Cheers!

You should consider a pop up tent where all the rods are already connected to the center of the tent. All you have to do is to roll the tent out, pull it up at the center, tie the 4 corners to the ground with the pegs and voila you are all set up! One person can set up. I didn’t but was tempted. We did end up doing our “Day Camping” which is a previous video I posted. Now, you’ve given me an idea, but definitely it is better shared with hubby. Thank you so much for your comments. As a senior and having a husband who is 11 1/2 years older than me, it causes me to think about… what if he passes away? We both had been self-employed all our years and that means no company pension. We’ve never had a lot but what we’ve had we enjoy. I have said, if he passes away I will take a couple months to look after things, close up the home we live in and go south in my Honda CRV. I’ve told him this plan. I’ve talked to my kids about it as well. I kinda feel that my kids are rolling their eyes like, “this will never happen.” I have prepped out my Honda so that I can do this, kinda at a moment’s notice. On the other hand, longevity tends to run in the male line and so it is likely that my husband will live a long time. I figure we have at least (maybe) ten years to enjoy, so I come up with the ventures and he comes along, supports, helps, and gets the enjoyment as well. He says I will keep him young. I like your idea of car camping and if you do venture out on that let me know. I love hearing the stories of how people are managing. Cheers!

First, happy belated birthday second, you all are the cutest couple together. It’s a wonderful thing when couples find activities that they want to do together instead of everyone being separate. I have always wanted to live in a tiny home. I have so much collected stuff that I don’t even know what it is it’s just stuff in the basement. I am slowly, but surely digging through it and getting rid of, most of it. I live long enough I want to live out my life in a tiny home. I also am a tent camper. I am just turning 70 but I have some chronic illnesses that make me musically. Much older. I require oxygen 24/7 for a lower collapsed lung, and it affected my heart when it first occurred so I have to be pretty careful. With that being said, I’d love to camp in a tent I have a Coleman six person instant tent, which is quite easy to set up for me by myself. I am typically a solo camper just me and my two dogs. I also bring a temporary panel fence for them and they are quite happy to have their nice size yard right in front of my tent, I have a tarp that goes over their fenced in area and I also have my chairs within the fence. I have been looking at the Napier tent for a while, because once I get to a campsite, I have very rarely moved my car. You made setting up that Napier lock very easy, and I am definitely going to look into that more if I could sleep in my Kia soul and not have to bring a heavy cot and all the bedding along with the huge Insta tent that would check ups so much less room in my car that I would not have to bring my little wagon. I pull a little utility wagon to the campsite, which is not that big of a deal, but I would like to go further away from home, and my little wagon is not so great on the highway. I appreciated this video because now I am pretty much focused on building a platform that I can store flat things underneath like my cook stove, potty tent, and the dog cots. I am actually thinking about pulling my car out of the garage and putting it close to the side door and bringing out everything. I think I would need minus the tent and see if I could put it in the car without using the wagon, you have given me inspiration 😂 I subscribed and can’t wait to see your other videos❤❤❤

Thank you so much for your message. I love reading other’s stories. I have rheumatoid arthritis, diagnosed when I was 21, so I know a little bit about the stamina and endurance that is needed to do almost anything. I’m impressed with your desire to go camping considering the extra health concerns you have. You are brave. I suspect you are a little like me, you want to keep moving and enjoy life, even if we have to do it a little bit slower with some encumbrances. Today Stanley and I put up the tent in the driveway and gave the inside a cleaning, something we had not done since we first purchased it (two years ago). Our next video will show that set up and take down. It was a little bit more difficult with no ground to help keep it in place but we finally figured it out. Still it was fun. I like a challenge and when we reach our goal we always feel good. Let me know how your plans go. I’d be interested in hearing. I do have a video where I designed a platform and Stanley helped me with the leg portion. If I locate it I’ll (perhaps run it again). Thanks for your kind words.

Travel Tips and Hacks: Share tips for packing, finding deals, or navigating airports. 2. Destination Guides: Create in-depth guides on places she’s already been, sharing insights that didn’t make it into her original travel vlogs. 3. Local Adventures: Explore her own city or nearby areas, showcasing hidden gems that her audience can enjoy without going far. 4. Travel Gear Reviews: Review products like luggage, tech gadgets, or travel essentials that she uses on trips. 5. Travel Storytime: Share memorable or funny stories from past travels. 6. Q&A or AMA Sessions: Host live or recorded Q&A sessions answering viewers’ travel questions or giving advice. 7. Travel Planning & Budgeting: Share how to plan trips, create itineraries, or budget for travel. 8. Guest Interviews: Interview other travelers, vloggers, or experts in travel-related industries. 9. Cultural Insights: Post about the culture, food, or traditions of places she’s visited. 10. Throwback Videos: Revisit and re-edit past trips with new commentary or insights. 11. Learning a New Language: Share her journey in learning a language relevant to her next destination. @@camslumlord Hey great benefit… love it (lose weight). Stanley and I (as seniors) often get up in the night to go pee. What we found when camping is that we rarely get up in the night. We think the reason is… we don’t have that evening Tea. So, we tried that at home, not having a cup of tea in the evening. It does seem to work. Not always, but more often than not. So, camping teaches us some things about ourselves. Benefits we didn’t think of. Cheers!

We once planned a trip to beautiful Tahannock falls and did the reservation for a long weekend. We had a great time but when we went to set up the tents.. we had no poles for the kids tents or ours as i had decided to wash them and put them back in the bags but the poles and stakes were still at home! And we were alot younger then! All i was thinking was packing the car and getting the kids to fit in with all oyr stuff! I didnt bring much except breakfast food..and i got a pizza and had it delivered around 6pm whike we watched the campfire... 😂 the kids really loved it.but they slept in the back of the station wagon as it got chilly at night but cozy in the car.. we tied the top bungees of our tent to a tree branch and got in our tent. It all worked out.

I love to hear of people camping on their own. At our age, if I leave the house or go somewhere without Stan it feels strange for both of us. I think we have got so used to being together that being apart feel strange. However, I did say to him one day, “Would you mind if I slept out in the CRV tonight.” He laughed and said it would be okay. For us in southern Ontario the weather unfortunately is already changing. Today it’s 51 Fahrenheit (11 Celsius). We are heading into the fall weather, as much as it saddens me. It means we have to enter into other ventures to enjoy life and “joy” is one of the goals. When you get away at least once a week is it always camping?

Happy to hear from you. So neat that us people who are over 60 are interested in nature and being in it more. I had often called my husband the great “Resister” because when I’d suggest an activity he’d hesitate, resist, and sometimes after some thinking he would go along with the plan. For example, I suggested getting a cell phone for him. He resisted for two years and then on his birthday I said, “I’m getting you one.” Since then, he loves it. I did the same with an iPad. I said, “You need one of these so that the print is larger and easier to type.” He resisted. I waited…lol… and eventually I handed him my old iPad and got a new one. Now he loves it, wonders how he managed without it. So, I know this about him (the resisting). I plant a seed and wait for it to germinate. Strange though, when I mentioned the camping idea he didn’t resist and we had a lot of fun. When I said, “Let’s get a season pass to the parks,” he said okay right away. So, I’m not sure if being 80 years old as he is, if that lowers the resistance…lol… but we are definitely having fun doing all kinds of things. I’m 69 and my aim is to keep both of us brain healthy. Here’s hoping for the best for you with your hubby and your lovely plans. Cheers!

Thank you for your comments. There was a lot of foliage between our tent and the river. We chose not to select a site directly on the river for concerns of flooding and overflow (campground suggestion). But we were still close enough to walk to see the geese, ducks and the river itself. It was quite full that day due to rain. We had lots of rain and it rained on the morning we left. We would have stayed longer but the rain was torrential. It’s a small river.

How do you stay cool or warm depending on the temperature? Also how do you deal with bad weather? Stay safe from animals and bad people? Do you camp at campgrounds that have electric plugins?
@TwoSeniors Жыл бұрын
To stay warm we rent a camping spot that has electricity, run an long cord into the tent and use a power bar. We have a small Honeywell heater that we use if needed. I like to sleep up in the Honda which is open on the back to the tent. I use a Jackery with small fan to circulate air. Because I am up off the ground I find it very cozy and warm. We both have sleeping bags. Most camp sites don’t have any animals. There are places that warn of bears but we don’t go to those camp sites. Most of our camping is done in Ontario wine country, very safe.

Sue, I’m 76 and decided to start camping. The reason, I’m in over my head with genealogy. I want to be able to go and spend some time in the places my ancestors settled. My great grandparents settled Duxbury Mass. and his brother came over on the Mayflower. Spending 70.00 to 100.00 + a night would be a bit to expensive. Bought a small tent and found a friend with camping experience and we camped for 4 days. It rained… my air mattress sprung a terminal leak..and I came to the conclusion my tent needed to have more head room ( I have vertigo). Oh yes, and her grandson exposed us to Covid. Came home upgraded my tent. Next week we are going again. I’m working towards going solo camping. Any suggestions? Btw my friend is the only one who camps everyone else is pretty much horrified at my doing this. Yes they think I’m nuts.
@TwoSeniors Жыл бұрын
Hi There, thank you for your note. What your friends may not realize is the sense of adventure you’re embarking on and the courage to do camping. Not only are you venturing forth to visit the places of your ancestors but you’re living out some of their genetics, travelling, exploring, being brave to do things others are not doing. I think your idea is wonderful. My ancestors on my mom’s side came from Heidelberg German, landed in Philadelphia and settled in New Jersey for 15 years. Then the Canadian government gave away land to persons who wanted to settle there so Conrad Book (my ancestor) and some of his children moved up to Grimsby Ontario. Two roads are named after Conrad and John (his son). Eventually my ancestors made their way up to Toronto. My cousin searched out 300+ years of family history. One reason I chose Jordan Valley for camping is because it is in the area of my ancestors settlement (just south of Grimsby). So, we are similar in the tenting and ancestral ideas. I had forgot, one reason we like the Napier tent is because of it’s size. It’s 10X10 and 9 feet high, lots of head room and space to utilize however one wishes. I like to sleep in the Honda but Stanley still prefers to sleep in the tent. We each use a trifold 4” foam mattress (available on Amazon). The mattresses fold up and give us plenty of room for our other camping gear. Setting up is a breeze, usually. It doesn’t take long. Stanley has a bit of claustrophobia and so likes the space inside the tent area. It has been said that one person can set up the Napier tent in ten minutes but so far I’ve found that at a certain point a little help is needed. Let me know how your travels go. I’d love to hear. And thanks again for sharing. I love hearing everyone’s stories. Cheers!

@TwoSeniors Жыл бұрын
I built a platform to level things out, which also gives us some storage space under the foot end (where our feet would rest). I store a small folding table there (as you can see me pulling it from under the platform on the video). In future I may build a new platform for more storage underneath but for now we like the amount of room we have for sleeping (IE: distance from sleeping to ceiling).

how many days do you camp there...its alot to set up?
@TwoSeniors Жыл бұрын
We manage to camp about 2-3 times a year. Our weather in Ontario is not always the best for camping. We would like to do more but… I’m trying to convince Stanley to travel into Pennsylvania, Virginia and maybe the Carolina’s… Mostly we travel to those places but we don’t camp. It was only a few years ago (Covid days), where things were shut down, borders etc, and I asked him, “Would you like to camp with a Napier tent attached to our Honda CRV?” Much to my surprise he immediately said yes. And so we are gradually growing our camping equipment list and making plans.

How do you stop the car battery going flat leaving the tailgate open all the time?
@TwoSeniors Жыл бұрын
Honda says the internal lights will go out after 15 minutes. We tested that out and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t, so I located a button on the tailgate door that can be switched off, or rather, it switches off the internal lights. I mentioned this in a previous camping video a year ago titled “Senior Camping with Honda CRV & attached tent” . At the end of the video I show where the button is how to set it and how to release it. Perhaps I’ll so a short video on this. It may not be the same for all vehicles but I suspect a car owner’s manual will mention it. Thanks for your question, cheers!

@@TwoSeniors A lot of people use a carabiner in the latch to fool the car into thinking the tailgate is closed and that stops the drain on the battery

does your battery die with the hatch up?
@TwoSeniors Жыл бұрын
The lights in the vehicle are supposed to go out after 15 minutes, but there is a button on the hatch that you can turn to turn the lights out. So, short answer is… no … battery remains in tack full charge, no problem. In my Honda CRV camping video (July 13, 2022) I show how and where that button is.

I have bad knees. How do you get up in the bed?
@TwoSeniors6 ай бұрын
@@rodrigch99 Hi there, great question about getting into the back of the Honda CRV to sleep. I illustrate that action and explain it in my most recent camping video titled “Two Seniors Camping, Part 2, MacGregor Point” I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis when I was 21. I’m 70 and of course, still have that condition. To get into the back of the Honda I place my right foot, (no sandals or shoes on), onto the back bumper. I grab the top of the Honda opening and swing (balance my body) up onto the platform. So that’s my left knee going onto the platform. Once there I balance on my knees. If needed I roll over onto my seat and shimmy my way into the bed. I know that temporarily it may hurt a little but I do whatever I can to limit the time on my knee. It’s the strength of both knees together that help transfer or lift pain. I don’t know about your knee condition but for myself, I know that a bit of pain, even temporary pain, does not mean I’m doing damage to my knees. It means that I have temporary discomfort, but it’s short lived by rolling over to my seat. When we have bad joints we tend to do life differently. Tell me how you manage or do things differently. I can imagine you’ve made a number of adjustments. Cheers!

@@rodrigch99 If you have a tent that attaches to your SUV or similar type vehicle, if nothing else it helps the tent room appear larger. You can store cooking gear at the end of the vehicle, (we’ve done that on occasion), and it gives you easy access to anything you might store leaving more room in the tent area. What is your tent like?
