I’m so glad you mentioned proper rotation because getting ambitious with high elbow in the catch is a true shoulder killer. I suffer from impingement now due to poor rotation, and can only go in the water once a month nowadays. Most can benefit from lowering the head a bit, enjoy the glide a bit before the catch and rotate a bit more. But for sure, this will cut the promised 10 sec. Check out effortless swimming too.

Thank you for taking the time to explain that! Might have to go swimming this afternoon to give it a go !

Being a person that had to discover what you said in the video by practice and implementing it, being a very experienced triathlete with a start point of 2:00 per 100 and now at 1:28, and having experience in education, being an educator my everyday life, i give you all the kudos. You have an amazing ability to transfer knowledge and explain things clearly and in an understandable way. I wish you made these videos 2 years ago it would save me a lot of frustration 😅

This definitely works. I normally average 2:10 per 100m (+/- 5 seconds). After watching this video, I followed your advice and I swam 1100m at 1:54 per 100m. I couldn't sustain it for my entire 3.3km swim though and ended up averaging only 2:09 per 100m. I'd be over the moon if I could get my time down to sub 1:45 per 100m and sustain it over my usual 5km daily swim.

Great to read you got that immediate improvement, Nate. My advice would be - to help those changes bed in - stop swimming at the point where your speed starts to deteriorate. Think of it -for a while at least - as 'I want to be practicing perfect technique' - and as soon as that technique starts to deteriorate, that's a sign you're fatiguing. Best to get out, and get back in another day, and hang on to those gains. Well done!

Argee catch is important:) but what I think slows most down, is,,,they move their lead arm down to fast, and lead with their head, I like to think each stroke, should feel like you are body surfing, how far do you surf with out a arm infront of you, so really believe if you want to glide through, don't bring your arm back, until the other arm can take the lead:)

Ok, I'm confused. You say that you have to be on your side to get into that high elbow catch. You show yourself on your left side whilst starting the left arm catch, but would you not be starting to rotate onto the right side when starting the catch with the left arm?

Yes! This technique requires fluid coordination. You position your left catch while on your left side and when you start the pull your hips rotate to right, helping to anchor and move forward. Now start the catch with your right arm. Repeat as needed. Greets.
