Not only great advice but very well-explained. Communication is a very underrated element of great coaching. Definitely differentiates the good from great.

So good! As someone who used to be a sprinter but has tried to become more of a distance swimmer in middle age, he perfectly described 2 of my issues when I try to do fast 100s now: doing close to a 3/4 catchup with my recovery arm dictating my timing too much, and stuck in the threshold zone.

This is a much better video on this channel than other videos because it gets to sharp take-home s concisely without wasting any of the viewer's time

As a late middle age starting swimmer it's great to hear the reasoned analysis of tecnique far beyond the generic. You must've enjoyed it Brenton.

Fully submerges the head between breaths to avoid wave resistance. Something we saw with many of the distance swimmers in Paris.

I like the way he demonstrated the connection between the arms - pulling with one arm and recovery of other- I think the timing of mine has been out

I just love how hes nerding out about it!!!!❤ I find swimming SO interesting, is so fine and suttle before it is really powerful! I see way to many people focusing on power, speed and endurance, rather then building a foundation of skill to build up on.

For this old swimmer, usually the advice on ytube is rather basic or generic, but there are some really gold nuggets being dropped here. Stuff I can work on. My racing days may be long past, but doesn't mean I can't improve technique even if I don't have power and stamina of youth.

Very good video! Just curious about one thing, when I was younger, I was taught to take 3 strokes in between each breath. Is 2 and 4 the way to go now? And should I change? (Talking especially about triathlon distances between 500 m and 1500 m, both pool and open water)

When you’re growing especially I think it’s good to keep balanced by breathing to both sides but it can be up to the left and back to the right rather than every three. Also it’s good to be able to do both so you can really work out what’s best without a weak point dictating that. Dunno. 🤷

No doubt they have been looking at his strokes, kicks, breathing, head position etc etc using above water, under water cameras in the last six months or so. The did the same thing with Popovici a few years ago. The coaches then modify their thoughts and teachings. But it takes time.
