No it’s something that you experience. No movie will ever capture the fear, the bravery to overcome the fear, or the terror felt when you are in a plane that is hit by fire. It’s a memory that haunts you the rest of your life or it’s suppressed over time. In a plane,on a ship, or on the ground, the life and death struggle to overcome the fear and to live is a common thread throughout each individual fighting. This why I pay respect and gratitude every day to these brave individuals living or dead. I must stand for this country and its democracy; I will never let fear in the face of today’s enemies both abroad or here in this country allow me to forget the great sacrifice and suffering of these valiant fighter in history. Their families and their valor were not in vain. My life must be lived in a manner to be worth their great deeds and to the life they never got to live.

Torpedo 6 from Enterprise was the reason Bombing 8 was able to get into position to take out 3 Carriers. All of those men had Steel Balls and the determination to follow through on their mission… incredible sacrifice and bravery gave the US Victory in the most pivotal battle of the War in the Pacific!!!!!!!!!! My Dad was a Gunners Mate on Enterprise during this battle, Enterprise went for refit after Midway and they sent my Dad to Gunnery School and he came back to the Big E as a Fire Control Officer were both the Big E and Dad served until Okinawa when a kamikaze took both the ship and Dad out of action.

There is such a pilot. Nickname: Dick. Full name: Richard Halsey Best. He is a dive bomber pilot during 1942 Battle of Midway. Led his dive bomber squadron in sinking two Japanese aircraft carrier in one day. Actor name: Ed Skrein.

If you are talking about Dick Best who this actor is playing, no he did not get shot down. He bombed the aircraft carriers and returned. Like in the movie, his lungs were damaged by the faulty oxygen system in his plane. He was medically discharged from the Navy in 1944.
