Two Steps Saved a Pilot's Life

At the age of 40, Matt's life suddenly changed after he went into cardiac arrest as a pilot mid-flight. The heroic efforts of his co-pilot Captain Lee using CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) saved his life.

First heard your story, Matt, through Flight 3433's original CVR on VASAviation's channel. It is wonderful to see that you have fully recovered and are still doing well, though I know you feel the loss of your wings. Captain Lee: great determination, and some amazing flying to bring that 777 in the way you did. Congratulations on your retirement, though I had hoped to be lucky enough to sit in the back of your aircraft some day. Best of wishes to both of you!

I hope they change the rules to allow you to fly again…with all the technology planes have now a-days and the fact the 777 usually has 3 or 4 pilots on board…it would seem like in the scheme of things it would be safe for your to continue to be a first office!

Nope! Matt Clark suffered cardiac arrest In May, 2020. He is an advocaate for people to have CPR training. Doctors credit the CPR he received from Capt Lee as saving his life. No doubt, Mr Clark's tremendous will to live helped his recovery too.
