An old fashioned fob on a leather strap is what I use for casual pocket watch wear.

I bought a pair of Seiko pocket watches that use a similar method. I prefer it do to minimal length of chain.

1. Leather is fine, however, the end at the watch should be tied to the bow with the leather so it minimizes wear. Otherwise, nice. 2. Just because they aren't shock protected, doesn't mean they aren't durable - if you are worried about the case, the structure of a GF case will hold up to your jeans just fine... :^) Get yourself a recently serviced Hamilton 950 or a 17 size Sangamo Special - as long as you don't go for a swim with them, they'll be unharmed. Glad you're coming around. PS. I have a similar problem - many of mine are 'too nice to wear' - remember, you can go vintage AND wearable!

I’m trying to come around to more vintage watches and more wearable pocket watches. I haven’t gone down the rabbit hole of railroad grade yet… but when I do I see a Sangamo Special in my future. 😁

@@PocketWatchTime Well... They did make it is solid 14k... However, the solid cased versions are pretty rare and approaching Patek money, so defeating the purpose. I never had a problem with pocket watches - especially railroad grade. They are durable and reliable. The Model 13 Sangamo Specials had 60 hour mainsprings and are very durable. I enjoy my green gold 'rigid bow' (as opposed to stiff bow - different case design) Model 13 with the funky late Sangamo only hexagonal font dial. It's just got that 1920s funkiness in the case and dial that I don't need to open the back to explain the brilliance of it. Good luck!

With regular wear, that metal clasp would scratch the bow of the watch, particularly if it were a soft metal like gold. A leather or fabric loop around the bow is better.

Absolutely. For a gold watch I’d recommend a leather adapter. That’s what I use with all my gold watches and chains.

I wear a pocket watch during work as a courier. I need to keep it in the big pocket of my pants or I can't get it out while I am driving to see the time. I had to rig my own rope setup because a chain would be sharing the pocket with the watch and scratching it up. The leather would also work great for not scratching up its own watch.

I agree. For general wear, I’d recommend leather or a rope. For me a chain can cause too much damage unless it’s worn just right.
