OP is right, a spouse is supposed to be a partner. He didnt just lie to OP, he tried to gaslight her, while going behind her back to introduce their children to a dangerous person he knew his wife vehemently disapproved of. He showed the kids that it is acceptable to hide things from their mum. And this was going on for months. This is the perfect betrayal. She had to divorce him. It's sad the husband cannot have the kids unsupervised but if he cannot be trusted to be honest with their mother then why shouldn't he be supervised?

That right there should have been his litmus test. If you don’t feel that you can be honest with your partner about what you are doing then maybe you should rethink your actions beforehand. That's just another example of why confrontation is the worst way to solve deep problems of the relationship. Communication is key, but any signs of deceit and gaslighting must be objectively evaluated through PI/cameras/phone snooping and other secret methods of obtaining information. Yes, once relational trust is broken, it is difficult to rebuild, but very possible, if both parties are willing. What the husband did in this situation was SO wrong! - Absolute violation of trust! But, to immediately file for divorce was an overreaction. She made a commitment to TRY, if/when issues like this arise, to work it out. What do I think? This is a work of fiction by a talented amateur writer, but the phrasing, word choice, events described reek of either fictionalized events or a complete work of fiction.
