Kudos to Charlie Corstorphine. Prevented the final from being ruined. It’s bad enough when somebody whistles to put anybody off… but the World Number 1? Unbelievable. Whoever that was is no darts fan. With that out of the way… the final took a while to get going, but when it did, Littler left himself with too much to do. Humphries really wasn’t looking good prior to the final but wow did he find his best when it mattered. What a champion he is, and in the end, what a bounce back after the Grand Slam. Bet against him winning the World Championship again at your peril.

It’s amazing to see how many people have written off the other great players of recent times. Both Luke’s are fantastic players and no one can argue that. That being said, Phil Taylor could play at this standard, MVG could play at this standard and above, Anderson could also play at this standard. One player which people have completely forgotten about due to his poor form is Peter Wright. It was only a few years ago that he was untouchable for a period. There’s many more you could name. The reality is the two Lukes are the players in form but they’re not transforming the game.

To the people who have been saying Littler CLEARS everyone including Humphries: 🤡 Littler is an insane talent, and probably the most exciting and in-form player atm, he is NUTS. Still, the glazing gets very disrespectful, from the booing crowds that always side with him, to such youtube comments. He is one of the best, if not the best currently, but he has his shortcomings too, and you could see that here, when he is not at his best, he is simply not at his best. Humphries can patiently build his game up even when he is in poor form, and perform a 100+ avrg when it matters, in the final. And at his best he is also a complete menace. Get down to earth Littler glazers, I'm sure it will help him too, despite his talent he is a respectful player too, and has grwon in that sense. Don't put all these expectations on him and act high and mighty in his stead...

Genuinely wonder if fatigue, fitness levels etc at the end of a short but packed tornament played just a week after another packed grand slam tornament played a factor in Littlers slight dip in level in the semi and final. As much as i think littler is a prodigy of the sorts the game hasn’t seen in many many years, you cant quite help but hand it to humphries.. the outright, and just, world number 1 almost goes about his job as a perceived underdog…. Many other players im sure it would impact them negatively but he consistently gets the results and shows the performance when it really matters. His handling of the mental side of the game, mid game, is really impressive. Regularly smiling and acknowledging his competitors achievement is something to be applauded…. Not of the idiot showmanship of the likes of Gerwin Price….

These 2 are very similar in level at this point. Whilst Littler’s general play throughout tournaments is far superior to anyone including Humphries, Humphries turns up when it matters most. Littler’s proven he can beat Humphries but in those clutch moments I think you’d have to give the edge to Humphries right now. Would be a great rematch to get in the final of worlds, I think Littler looks like more of a certainty to actually reach the final, but if Humphries does too then he probably has the edge.
