What's crazy about this layout is that less tracks definitely make it feel like more realistic. Sometimes I see layouts where every square centimetre is covered in tracks and it honestly loses realism. Thanks for being my constant inspiration!

Always good to get an update from you! The building came out really well and adds a lot of realism to the scene. The trailer provides a nice backdrop transition, especially with the section of photo back drop. It all works cohesively. Cheers

Your small shelf layout is very inspirational, and adding a non-rail served industry is something I need to consider. * subscribed *

you are correct, the red/pink pipe is part of the fire riser/fire sprinkler/fire control system. It was probably painted red, then faded to pink over time and weathering. The proto photo looks like it's on raised ground/grass. Yours looks like it's setting on the ramp, which isn't a problem, just add some yellow bollards so the trailers don't back into the fire riser. Overall, your switching layout looks good. Thanks, Terry
@moghobbystuff5 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, spotted that I'd 'moved it' to the ramp, so great shout about the bollards, thanks Terry!

Nice update and I really like that yellow building, I think it turned out great! Those little details that you added from prototype pictures really make a difference. Also cool idea you had for creating the roof structure. Keep it up and best regards from the Springfield & Western (also a two turnout layout).

Thanks! The roof was a happy experiment ;-)

Great attention to detail, I really like that. If I could suggest one small thing - The tires on the trailer are too new looking. I use Pan Pastels on mine, then spray a fixative. Looking forward to some operations. Take care - Bill.

Everything looks good and I like the photo in the background. Also those vents look nice and I have seen black run off in the corners of them I the real world. That red faded pipe is correct on some buildings plus for the record they don't actually work in the real world... I hope yours does in the layout world. Lol
@moghobbystuff5 ай бұрын
Hopefully never need to test it ! Great tip re the vents .. I was wondering about adding some very light weathering and that kind of detail will work well

I made a copy of your ops sheet (hope you don't mind) and gave it a shot on my layout...it works great! My layout is roughly the same size and I was using JMRI but it wasn't quite working for me. The dice and tables for ops is my new favorite method for switching:)
@moghobbystuff5 ай бұрын
Of course! I'm sure I borrowed the idea from elsewhere (also play with toy soldiers so dice tables are pretty common) I used 'switchlist' for other layouts but just wasn't what I wanted for this one. Great to hear it's working for you too :-)

Lovely as always. Have you considered chucking a velcro-fastened curtain to the lower fascia and/or a wider upper fascia to hide the shelf brackets? Your layout has a great aesthetic look and I think it would be greatly enhanced if the eyes were guided in those wide shots? Just a thought, take care!
@moghobbystuff5 ай бұрын
Thankyou! Interesting.. I'm generally not too worried about above and below as I might be for an exhibition layout - my attention is in the scene and I need to access the shelves regularly - but yes, when you then start videoing, that becomes more of a consideration. The brackets on the inside are a pain as the depth is fairly limited and I wondered about perhaps some kind of translucent cover/layer to hide those
@williamsworkshopuk5 ай бұрын
@@moghobbystuff I think just making the upper fascia extend a little lower so that the brackets are masked when the view is from track level wouldn't be too onerous? Maybe best done after the major scenics are in place however. Regarding the curtain - I think most exhibition layouts also have a curtain to hide the legs - but of course, it's your layout!
@moghobbystuff5 ай бұрын
Gotcha.. Yep, I'm considering that, as you suggest, been putting it off a little until I've completed stuff as it's a fairly narrow gap already. (and I'd need to move the LED lights) Yes, you're right, if I was exhibiting I would definitely be hiding the bottom etc, but this layout not going anywhere! I might experiment with a temporary one for videos. Thanks for your interest, food for thought :-)
