I love it, I've watched a short video on this also, 10:09 love that locomotive you've got running :)

Operations are what keep a model railroad interesting. Your little switching layouts show us that we don't need a lot of space to enjoy this hobby. Nice work, as always.
@moghobbystuff11 ай бұрын
Definitely the case for me.. I understand some people like to let them run and that’s great if that’s what suits you.. but for me, the operating, even if it’s quite simple, is key

I did just buy a Ghan set from Auscision and a pair of AN GM's from Bob's TrainORama because I want to watch them run through the outback to relive a great adventure I had many years ago, so I need to build a bigger layout for that. But I will include my little switching layout in it.@@moghobbystuff

I like watching them run, too, but not having the room to do it isn't a reason to not have a layout. Fortunately, there's an empty loft above my garage that is begging for a large layout! (My Ghan needs a place to run!)@@moghobbystuff

Will, from the USA here. That is looking very good. Simple, yet can be very enjoyable to operate. Lots of potential for excellent scenery and super details!

I’ve really enjoyed watching your updates on this project and it’s nice now to go back and rewatch these earlier videos. That SD40-2 with the hoppers at the 7:43 mark is just a superb thing to watch.

Thank You! Yeah, I do like that SD-40 (Kato) .. In my imaginary RR world, the Midland Belt starting buying EMD power and patching it out (most of my 'Yellow Pine' locos are Alcos)

I like the concept of this, and how it's getting interesting operation into a very minimalist structure. Definitely getting some gears turning in my brain as I'm thinking about what to build.

Hi, and happy new year! I've built a 7 x 1 baseboard with plans to do a layout like this. Even got the track, just have to make a start! The one turnout layout is the basis of the Freemo module I built that's now at Warley club. Hope to see youu out and about at Freemo events. Till then take care and keep building. 😀

Cheers Keith .. plans are afoot and modules under construction ;-)

Thank you. I think you could condense the idea into a smaller space in a few ways .. I just made use of the space I’d made available for myself

Happy New Year! Mini wargames and model RR, you're a man after my own heart. Looking forward to seeing this layout come together as your videos have been very inspirational for me. Thanks for the great content.

Happy new year! Thanks ! I suspect there are quite a few of us out there ;-) I was part of a team showing a big dark age game at a show and ended up talking 3mm scale modelling with one of the visitors ! (Pretty niche model railway modelling)

Hi Mog! Happy new year to you. I like switching/layouts and wargaming too. I follow your channel since you post the "Brett". The Brett was the inspiration and start for my HO-layout Jefferson Tower (10,5 feet x 1,3 feet). Currently not ready, but in action. Framework was based on my former Z-Sclale Layout that never reach construction end. So I looking forward to your new project. Hope for more inspirartion. I hope you will go forward like in the past. Take care and stay healthy. Best

Prototypical train operations for me, the only 'war games' type stuff that I have some interest in is the DCS aviation combat simulator (which I infrequently use).

Not sure how to share a contact address - every time I try the message is yanked - and that has disappeared now as an option under the KZbin about page. Any ideas?

What # and type are your 2 turnouts?
@moghobbystuff11 ай бұрын
Hi .. I should have mentioned ! It’s all Peco 83 and the two turnouts are #6, salvaged from my old layout , so cost wise this was a cheap start !

Why not trying to be more prototypical by using the proto87 standards? Specially with a small layout.😉
@moghobbystuff11 ай бұрын
‘Getting too old for that ‘ ;-) I’m kidding .. I dipped a toe into 3mm ‘finescale’ and considered EM too , but I’ve got enough challenges in HO to keep it interesting:-)
@SouthDown11 ай бұрын
NO. Stick to what works. Keep it simple. You want to have fun, not troubleshoot endless problems that 'finescale' brings to the table.

G'day from New Zealand Mog and Happy New Year to you and yours. Great to see you are back into the layout mode and I like what you have come up with. I'm predominately a 9mm/ft NZR modeller (1:33.86ish) which per chance uses standard O scale track (it's complicated and is based on our track gauge being 3ft 6in as opposed to 4ft 8.5in... google - "nzr 9mm trains youtube" it will illustrate what the scale is). Unfortunately due to its finer scale dimensions, 9mm/ft stock requires fairly large radius curves to not only "look" right but more importantly run reliably on. To this end sitting in our garage here at home is a 50ft x 20ft modular 9mm/O scale layout built by a group of fellow modellers in the early 90s - some of the YT clips illustrate the layout and rolling stock. As I don't have any room to set this up at home (it's been mostly set up at train shows over the last 17 years), and that I now want a home layout, I've elected to build a small US O scale switching layout based on an actual prototype location in Chicago. This will only use two operating points and a third to a dead siding representing the actual location's track layout. The planning/operating elements you listed is pretty much exactly what I've drawn up as my requirements being heavily swayed by Lance Mindheim's thinking... I'm pleased to see you back on YT and look forward to seeing how you will actually operate it and how it ends up scenically. All the best to you and your viewers for 2024.
