In many ways the curves are similar, one is concave and the other convex. Note that in the first example the effort is internal, that is, improvement is due to the efforts of one person. With the second example, it is external effort, that is, the interest in the website by other people that leads to growth. If we are learning, that is internal. External things like tutors might make it slightly easier, but it is the internal effort that provides the growth and that is going to over time have diminishing returns. For a website, we can do all the work we can but it requires external effort, other people taking the time to visit it, in order to achieve growth. This also can be used to show the limits of growth for certain businesses. If you look at a crafting business, it will follow something of a logarithmic curve and reach a growth limit because no matter how great the demand, a person can only make so many things in a given time, regardless of the tools or skills. When that limit is reached, additional people will be needed but even then it just shifts the curve, it doesn't change it. On the other hand, for the website, a little labor can greatly multiply the result, up or down. For a website, it increases the number of laborers (in this case, visitors).
