I just got back from Italy where i traveled in and out of five airports, several buses and trains and one car rental. I researched several bags before purchasing this one. A few bags were not available in time for my trip, but this one check most of the boxes. Hip belt, expandable, bag weight, roll top, and zipper opening, loads of pockets.
It's a good bag, it's well made, and has several features I really did like, but is it a great bag for the price? They have a 30 day return policy, but not a lifetime warranty like Peak; or a 100 return policy like Salkan.
Several bags I looked at were heavy, and the shelter was a bit lighter.
Tropic Feels Shelter Bag: 3.4lbs.
Peak Design Travel 45L Backpack: 4.5lbs
Wandrd Prvike 41L: 4.7lbs
Salkan: 5.62lbs

The Peak Design bag you showed (PD 45L Travel Bag) is actually expandable. It’s 30L compressed, 35L standard state, and 45L with the expansion compartment unzipped FYI.

This was perfect! Thank you for an honest review after your trip. I'm also often in a similar boat of having to bring things (like formal dresses) that aren't "typical backpacker" so that was very helpful. Also, I love your enthusiasm for travel and you're so inspiring! Keep it up❤❤

Thanks so much! I still use the pack as my over sized camera bag when I have to take too much gear. I'm sure there are cheaper options, but this one is holding up well for how much I bang it around.

Welcome back! I understand what you mean about the peak design. Looks like a really nice pack and you found that delicate middle ground. Any larger - not so sure about that, though

Thanks for the update👍🏻 You seam to be the only one reviewing this backpack on youtube, besides the general videos on all of the features of this backpack. Have you also considered Fjällrävens Abisko Frijluft 35/45 S/M or Kajka 35 S/M backpacks? They are a bit more technical I guess and don't have that much pockets but better straps. Personally I considered the tropicfeel as well but then decided to take a Fjällräven Singi 28 with additional pockets. One question about the tropicfeel: is it possible to put bottles into the bottle pockets on the side while the backpack is fully loaded?

Hi, over all Tropic Feels Shelter is a well made bag, and wasn't uncomfortable on when I didn't have my laptop in the bag. At it's heaviest it weighted around 12Kilos and wasn't that comfortable on due to the skinny straps. Yes you can get your water bottles in the stretchy pockets. . I did consider the Fjällrävens Abisko but it's a bit smaller at 25L and the hip belt wasn't as big, but probably would have been fine? I really liked the look of that pack, too. The other thing I was looking at was weight of the empty pack. Amazon says it's only ‎10 Ounces? That's light! There are so many good bags to choose from and if you can test them out at home before committing.. Best of luck with your decision.

Extremely useful, thank you so much, I have a 2 months trip planned and was considering this one or the Osprey Kyte or Ariel, so might go for Osprey even though they don't have many pockets, thanks for taking the time to review this.

So glad you found it useful. The Osprey packs are always a good choice. And if you use packing cubes having extra pockets is not really neded. Have an amazing trip!

For a version 1 of this backpack, it’s not terrible. Hopefully Tropicfeel can bring that price down because they really charge way too much for what they offer and the missing QoL stuff on their packs and other stuff.

I agree, the price is too high, and the shoulder straps could be better, but to be fair Peak Design's bag straps are about the same. and about the same price. When I first went to order it, I thought it came with all the goods since it was on the kick started, but I missed the cut off, so kind of bummed, but it's mine now, so I'll use it.

You can always get separate backpack strap pads for comfort as long as the straps dont feel like they would tear from the weight i think its fine. Really this pack is like an intersection of alot of features for different niches of travel which is really nice. I cant find any other pack with these kind of features it could suit someone fore lighter weight backpacking or someone thats on tour as a photographer or some other kind of artist
