Good tip to use the electrical tape on the rim. That does a good job protecting the tube

I broke my right thumb 16 years ago inflating one of these dolly tires at a gas station. It was a cheap rim too, one with a two-piece rim bolted together. I inflated the tire (too much) and when I was screwing the valve stem cover on, the rim exploded! It broke my thumb at the base! It was very painful but I drove to the hospital on my own and had it casted. Later, I read on the sidewall to inflate with a hand pump only. Now I know why. More amazingly, a few weeks later, while at Home Depot with my hand in a cast, There was a man in line at the cash with his hand in a cast. I could hardly believe it when he told me that he’d broken his hand inflating a dolly tire with an air compressor!!!!!!!!! Those rims are dangerous ⚠️ I see that the rim on yours is welded but still not well. Be careful out there. Another great video, Steve 100% watched.🎉

@@SteveRobReviews When I realized that there was another man who was injured by the same two piece rim I thought that this was a much wider problem. I spoke to a lawyer who said it is very difficult to get companies in other countries to take responsibility for dangerous products, especially China. There is little leverage the Canadian government has in altering their policies or making them responsible for defective products that cause injuries.
@SteveRobReviews5 ай бұрын
@EverydayProjects Yes exactly as we have legislative regulations for minimum standards but our idiots running the countries pass legislation to allow countries to import unregulated products . Fill a politicians pockets with money and you can get pretty much anything you want 🤷

I just bought two no-flat tires for my hand truck aka dolly. I’m glad I did because I could never fix the inner tube - yikes! too much work! Thanks for your video!

Hey Steve, great video. l have a dolly from Canadian Tire that is about 25 years old and it has served me well over the years. I did replace one of the rims a few years ago as the bolts holding the rim together fell out and I couldn't find the right size replacements. I replaced it with a plastic rim no problems with it at all. My little kayak cart with the same size wheels but with plastic rims would not keep air at all. I bought two new tubes and replaced them and now they are perfect. It was difficult to get the small tires on and off the rims. Next time I will use a bit of silicone spray as that seemed to work well for you........Take care, Bluefin.

I might of texted you about this. I added a tube to one of my tires and I can't get the tire back on! I have a lot of dollies at my work and we found an extra tire and wheel and put that one on. Our main dollies now a days are expensive mag-liners. Nice fix with the electrical tape, that is what I was thinking. Smaller tires are harder to work with like backing a shorter trailer is! You finally got the tire back on! Good job Steve Rob! I have a dolly at the house with hard tires that I have hade since about 1980!

The newer dolly cart tires are not as good as the old ones, the old ones where as strong as trailer tires and had heavy duty tubes. You can still get durable tires but they dont come with any dolly carts i know of, I would probably buy a cheap dolly cart but get nicer tires and maybe spray paint the cart a cool color.

Steve, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the hole in the tube on the tire side and not the rim side meaning a rough spot on the inside of the tire? Like the rod in a vise idea. I hate wrestling with those little rims/tires. Thanks. JimE
@SteveRobReviews5 ай бұрын
@JimE6243 Hi Jim , I have seen it on both but every time so far its been from the rim side as the rims are not cleaned much as metal debris does find it's way to the tire side and cause a leak.

@GrampiesWorkshop The tires today are mostly so cheap and so easily to puncture , I think they are one ply tires at most :)

Some times things need fixing... And now it is better than new! I had to do the same thing with on my Harbor Freight (similar to Princess Auto cheap junk). I demounted the tires to grind down and repaint the inside of the wheels. Been probably 20 years now, and while I do need to add air before using, it holds for a few days. I suspect it has picked up a thorn or two. :) I grew up using "hand trucks" with semi-pneumatic (solid) rubber wheels. I discovered after buying my own that pneumatic tires on the hand truck can be aired down to more easily squish over the edge when going up and down stairs. Much less work! I wish I had been able to air down when I was a teen hauling 250 pounds of clay up the stairs in Junior High school!

Mointed them on a dolly l had made. First bump and the rims bent. Ended up making new hubs. That's chinesium for you. Total crap shoot. Cheers.
