Two Year Review of the Fuji X-H2s

Awesome camera but to be honest Fuji just messed up with AF in the firmware. Fast Stacked sensor but horrible AF, it is fast but it misses shots, with fuji native LM lenses. Not to talk about tracking in video, just horrible. It sees faces and people on trees. Overall I still like the camera, I own it but I have never been closer to switching brands at least for video. Do you also have issues with AF? And a thing that very few people actually talk about: When the camera is in sleep mode after 30seconds, sometimes it takes like 5 seconds to wake up and multiple time pressing the shutter button. Do you have that as well?

Honestly, the X-H2s auto-focus WAS great when I first got the camera but I've noticed more problems as I've updated the firmware. In this video there was at least one time when it grabbed the background for no reason. You are right - this is increasingly a pain point. I don't have the issue with the camera waking up.

@@WesKriesel Great lens! I have it and generally it is worth the money, amazing quality. But again Xh2s misses shots with it. I had a subject 3 meters in front of me during an event and it focused completely on the background with face AF on.

​​@@WesKriesel or maybe the Sirui sniper 75mm f1.2 too, but seems like its rendering is more on the vintage side, not clinical. Other is the cheapo TTartisan 75mm f2, seems like it's a very good lens for less than $200, but still not released for Fuji.

The 90mm f2 Fuji is a killer lens but it is equal to about 135mm. Great lens if the focal length work for one.

Any comment on the image noise issue when recording high speed video? Seems to be pretty bad with this camera from what I have seen other reviewers put up. Don't really have too much of a horse in this game since mine is the X-T5, but for a while I was holding out for a stacked sensor variant just like the X-H2s is for the X-H2.

Great question! The Fuji X-H2s can exhibit some noise in high-speed video, especially in low light conditions. However, with the right settings like lower ISO and optimized lighting, you can reduce the noise significantly. I rarely shoot high-speed myself, but I’ve found it manageable when I do.

You did not discuss the AF much. I know there has been a lot of negative press recently about AF. Curious as to how the AF on Fuji compares to Canon.

@@WesKriesel I am not looking for a fixed lens camera. I want an ILC. I am thinking of switching from Fuji to Canon or OM. I like th size of OM-1, but wonder if I would be giving up too much in Picture quality and other parameters.

Fuji Rumors just announced that a new 16-55 2.8 should be announced soon. It is expected to be smaller and lighter and probably sharper. I also own the X-T5 and X-H2 with their massive 40 megapixel sensors. The new lens replacement will no doubt resolve images with this sensor better.

Interesting update. A smaller, lighter 16-55mm f/2.8 does sound promising, especially with those 40MP sensors. Still, I’m curious to see if it really delivers in terms of sharpness and overall performance. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!

@@WesKriesel I am quite sure that I will trade in my older 16-55 2.8 to purchase its replacement. The resolution on Fuji's 50-140 2.8 is still exceptional.

Fuji 50mm f2 is super sharp and fast auto focus too
