I’m on fuji since the beginning of my photography journey, first with the X100T. Now I’m going pro (I a documentary style alla Kevin Mullins, that’s the stuff I love doing) and I thought about switching to another brand or not. I made the decision to stick with Fuji for the reasons you mention, and for the love of Fuji, that sort of magic touch and the way you want to take the camera and shoot. Two XT-5’s for me as I love their look, the dials, the form factor, and its autofocus is good enough for me 👍😃 my favorite pair is 18mm 1.4 on one and 33mm 1.4 on the other, a documentary photographer l’a dream and so light set up easily hold with a peak design leash and a peak design capture clip at bell 😊

I have no brand loyalty. I purchase whatever does what I am looking for. I just sold my X-H2S to get the R6MII, purely because the X-H2S autofocus was so disappointing. 40 fps and most shots slightly out of focus on targets coming or going fast, dogs, etc. No update or setting or lens allowed me to capture what I wanted consistently. With the Canon I get 99 out of 99.1 shots in perfect focus. I used EVERY possible AF setting and lens combination on the Fuji. The cheapest lenses on the Canon do what the most expensive Fuji lenses could not. The Canon weighs no more than the X-H2S and the cheap primes weigh very little. The X-H2S nails static targets fairly well, especially a small bird in a tree. Colors are good on the Fooj and I enjoyed it and the lenses. But to say the X-H2S AF is on par with the Canon is lunacy, it isn't even close. The low light quality on the Canon is also substantially better. I WOULD have preferred to keep the Fuji if the promised AF did what they had claimed.

Hi... I'm using the X100F with the TT350 flash.. When using it as a flash ( on camera ) its great...however, when I'm using it as a trigger/Transmitter for my other Godox lights,..it fails to trigger the flash when the mode on camera is on M mode...only when the flash mode on the camera is at TTL, which I wonder would effect the outcome as it flashes the TT350 as well...instead of just having it trigger the AD200's.... what am I doing wrong?
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel Ай бұрын
This is out of my experience really, and this might be overkill, but considering the challenges with the Godox TT350 triggering your AD200s in manual (M) mode on your X100F, here are some things to check: - Flash Mode on the TT350: Ensure that the TT350 is set to 'Master' mode and that it is configured to act as a trigger rather than as a flash. This mode should be indicated on the TT350’s screen. - Group Settings: Verify that the AD200 units are set to the same group/channel as the TT350. If they aren't, the AD200s won't receive the signal to fire. - Trigger Channel: Make sure both the TT350 and AD200s are on the same channel. Sometimes, being on different channels can prevent the flash signal from being sent. - TTL vs. Manual Mode: If the TT350 is in TTL mode while functioning as a transmitter, it might also be emitting its own flash. Try setting the TT350 to manual mode to see if it still triggers the AD200s, while ensuring it is only firing them and not itself. - Firmware: Ensure that your TT350 and AD200 have the latest firmware updates, which can address compatibility issues. If you're still having trouble, it might be worth consulting the manuals or reaching out to Godox's support team for further assistance. I hope these tips help!

Hi! When you set up a custom recipe like this and assign it to a custom slot, when you’re shooting in that mode mode (C1), are you manually adjusting aperture, SS, and iso from the dials or is it all fixed? Can you even adjust those things on the fly via dials while you’re in a saved custom mode? I don’t seem to understand what “mode” the camera is in when you’re shooting in a custom setting (manual, aperture priority etc).
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 2 ай бұрын
Certainly! When you create a custom recipe and assign it to a mode like C1, you're not just saving aesthetic settings like film simulation and grain effect, you’re also saving the camera mode itself-whether that’s manual, aperture priority, etc. This means when you switch to C1, the camera will operate in the mode you saved, but you'll still have the flexibility to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO with the dials as needed. It’s like saving a whole shooting profile that you can switch to instantly. But if you need to switch to a different shooting mode while in C1, you can just hit the Q (Quick Menu) button, and from there you can choose a different camera mode on the fly. This gives you incredible flexibility to adjust to changing conditions or creative choices without leaving your custom settings.Hope that helps!

Hey! Thanks for the video. Was hoping to hear the EOS R would be better at sports compared to the T7. I'm new to sports photography, so forgive the ignorance. On a budget as well.... Looking for a recommendation on better option to shoot fast outdoor sports (lacrosse/soccer) most likely with a 75-300mm lens most of the time. Any (even older) model or lower priced DSLRs that better fit that bill? Thank you.
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! I really appreciate your comment and question. No worries about being new to sports photography-we all start somewhere! Considering your need for a camera suitable for fast outdoor sports like lacrosse and soccer, and given your budget concerns, I would suggest checking out the Canon 7D Mark II. It's a bit older but still a fantastic option for sports photography due to its robust autofocus system and high burst rate, which are great for capturing fast action. Pairing it with your 75-300mm lens will work well for outdoor sports. It’s a bit pricier than the T7, but the performance leap in sports settings is significant. Keep an eye out for used or refurbished models to get the best value! Hope this helps, and happy shooting! 📸✨

Hi Wes. The way iso works is that it takes the light that comes in via the lens and the combo of shutter speed and aperture and then either does nothing to it at base iso or amplifies the signal at higher iso's before the image is saved to the sd card. The sensor is not senstive like film was. I think its good to explain this correctly so people understand exactly what happens with iso.
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 2 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks so much for adding to the discussion with your clear explanation of how ISO works in digital cameras. You're absolutely right-understanding that ISO amplifies the signal rather than making the sensor more sensitive, like film, is crucial for getting to grips with modern photography techniques. It's great to have community members like you who share their insights, helping everyone understand camera settings better.

Do you think it's an overkill to stream with EOS R if I only want to stream in 1080p? Also, I heard some say " Avoid Canon [for streaming]. They tend to have baked-in OSD elements on the HDMI output, and the 'EOS utility' can kind of make them work as a webcam over USB, but the quality is VERY low when run that way... you'd be better off with a c920." By the videos I found online I tend to agree. Do you think EOS R can stream on Twitch, zoom, etc. without any stuttering?
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 2 ай бұрын
Great question! The EOS R is a bit over the top for just 1080p streaming, but it can still deliver fantastic video quality if you already have one. You’re right about some Canon quirks with HDMI outputs and using them as webcams via USB. For platforms like Twitch or Zoom, a simpler webcam like the Logitech c920 might be easier to manage. If you choose to stream with the EOS R, I recommend using an Elgato Camlink. It’s my go-to for a smooth experience and helps manage any tricky output issues effectively.

Thank you for this review. I couldn't agree more. I'm a Panasonic S52X video shooter. It's a GREAT CAMERA. But I'm in the process of switching to the X-H2s. Why. For all the reasons you mentioned, especially the 6k internal Pro res recording, and I'm very impressed by the Auto focus, which is now up there with the big boys. Once that's done, the F-Log 2 is out of sight fantastic the best log codec I know of, closely followed by the Panasonic V-Log. The Film simulations are a treasure---far, far, far better than anything Sony or Canon can offer in Log codecs or LUTs. The X-H2s is a winner, and worth every penny. And wisely, Fuji has allowed some excellent third party lens makes to create great lenses, this includes adapters of Canon EF glass, Sigma, Tamron, and Viltrox, all have affordable excellent lenses that perform every bit as well as Fuji lenses. I hate to sell my Panasonic, but I can't afford to keep both. That said I have NOTHING negative to say about Panasonic. If you love full frame (I don't) the Panasonic S5iiX is the bargain of the market. But the Fuji is just better for me.
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’ve done some thorough research and testing before making the switch to the X-H2s. I’m glad to hear that its features, especially the 6K ProRes, autofocus improvements, and F-Log 2, align so well with your needs. The film simulations really do set Fujifilm apart, don’t they? It’s tough to part with a camera like the Panasonic, but it seems like the X-H2s is the right choice for your work moving forward. Appreciate your detailed insight-this will definitely help others considering their options. All the best with your new setup!

You can't beat the aperture flutter when using Fujinon lenses on Fuji bodies. Amazing to see that they still haven't fixed aperture priority behaviour, where the blades open fully before closing down to the fixed aperture, albeit at a slightly different position between every frame. The resulting flicker is magical, perfect if you're into watching 1930s silent movies 🙄
