NONONONONO, SINGLE TRACK ON RAPID TRANSIT??!! I absolutely love this series and the idea of reusing an abandoned railway right of way, but having two way single track on a subway-style rapid transit is insanely unrealistic considering frequencies involved. This pains my soul, and i cant think of any city that does that. It also is very much a deal-breaker because metro and trains are very different in their operating patterns. Would be great if this could be addressed in the next episode. Also, train stations usually have multiple entrances, and with lazy pedestrians, it will increase ridership

It’s perfectly fine on a system like this where it’s being made from repurposed historical railways. Sections of the London DLR and overground are like this, sections of Melbourne’s rail network are like this. Imperfections make for interesting cities.

Fun fact, the PATH system technically falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Rail Administration. The NYC subway is isolated, so it doesn't follow mainline railroad rules. Legally speaking, PATH is actually a railroad, like Amtrak and NJ Transit, with waivers here and there. This is because way back in the day, under the Hudson & Manhattan (H&M), it shared the same tracks with the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), with all the same signalling. Some trains were even owned by the PRR itself: the MP38 and MP52. The Staten Island Railway (SIR) is similar, falling under FRA rules but with waivers as well; it used to be part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. It was only takenover by the MTA in 1971. Because of this, the R44 were modified to SIR's signalling system; their replacements, the R211S, also have to use this system, making them different from their R211A counterparts in the subway.

I really love the heritage look combined with a modern terminal in the central station but one tip I would like to give is to use glass roof instead of those grey BORING concrete. That would leave the tracks exposed and you would have to create platforms (you could use the tram ones !!), sooo ... it will take a long time but i would love to see it come to life.

Exchange Place (which is the Jersey City PATH station near the water that connects to tunnels under the Hudson) has better connections but the Hoboken PATH station is actually a terminal station so trains head towards NJ then loop around to get into the tunnels under the Hudson. A thing to remember about the PATH is that it’s quite old and inefficient, yet serves the most densely populated part of the country and an incredible number of people every day. Sitting in a dark tunnel waiting for trains to pass or at a ghost station that trains still stop at are part of the PATH experience.

Jersey City has a large central station because, before Penn Station was built in Manhattan, long-distance & commuter trains would terminate there, and passengers would take a ferry to/from Manhattan. Which to that point, I'd highly encourage building MSG / Penn Station and some of Chelsea Piers! But you nailed it. In real life, Exchange Place now a PATH station. Also interesting how tried to reuse the heavier-rail infrastructure, true to PATH. Which is legally a commuter rail system, but functionally is rapid transit.

Check out the Green Line at North Station in Boston prior to the 1990’s. It was an elevated light rail system with a through elevated station in front of North Station, one of Boston’s commuter rail terminals. But it also had a stub end surface level station in the street that dropped from the elevated structure to street level just to dead end. With that in mind, I think what you did with the surface level and underground stations at Central Station is just fine, especially considering the terrain you have to work with there. As we model railroaders like to say, there’s a prototype for everything!

Really cool episode. Love seeing the difference the mod made and the new transit getting lots of use. Its annoying to put in a lot of public transport infostructure only to see minimal usage. As fo the scrap yard it would 100% be land that would be bought and redeveloped irl, but Its honestly super unique and adds so much flavour to Florence that I'd 100% keep it. As for your comment about the light rail station and subway at Florence being out of the way because it's beside future industry, I could definitely see a Stadium/Arena/Expo center being built somewhere near there on the fringes of the industrial area. Also on a personal level. I'd like to see more car parks. I find making custom carparks in weird spaces super fun

I see you are building your version of the PATH commuter rail system. The Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) is a 13.8-mile (22.2 km) rapid transit system that links the northeastern New Jersey cities of Newark, Harrison, Jersey City and Hoboken with Lower and Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Nicknamed the "Hudson Tubes" when it originally opened on February 25, 1908 as the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, it became part of the Port Authority in 1962 as part of a deal that cleared the way for the construction of the original World Trade Center on the site of the Hudson Terminal in Lower Manhattan. At the time of being taken over by the Port Authority, the H&M Railroad was under financial pressure due to change in travel patterns. Today, the PATH commuter rail system has a annual ridership of over 55 million, which is around 185,000 per day. The system operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Just food for thought, but I think you could return the connection between the low level tracks and the top level metro platform and make good use of it with some service pattern changes. For the sake of explaining this properly, the line you are building at 47:37 will be the "Florence Line", the line that stays on the surface and joins the surface level platformsat central station will be called the "Coastal line" while the other line will just be called "Depo line". Finally, I'll just refer to the undergound line between the central station and fake manhattan as the "Manhattan Line" I think a valid service pattern would be [M1]Depo LineManhattan Line [M2]Florence lineCentral station [M3]Manhattan LineFlorence line (termiantes short at Florence) [M4]Depo LineFlorence Line [M5]Coastal lineManhattan Line At night, to justify a surface connection at central you could run [M1]Depo LineManhattan Line. (this should just be able to keep running) [NM2]Coastal lineCentral Station. [NM3]Florence LineCentral Station. If needed/wanted, M3 could also keep running at night as it would connect 2 night life centers, it would just eliminate a transfer between NM3 and M1 so it isn't really required. The only needed infrastructure to make this happen would be a pair of tunnel entrances connecting the surface level platforms to the undergound lines & a connection between the Coastal line & the manhattan line, you could build these nicely besides each other as they would just be short single track tunnel entrances facing away from each other (the ramps would have opposite slopes to each other) Just some ramblings of a guy who likes train services, but I feel like this service pattern would not be too dissimilar from PATH's, where they try to have trains from one tunnel under the hudson to termiante before heading in the other tunnel (orange/green services), to give space to other services so people don't need to transfer.
