3 tips for your station: - you can use PO on the ploppable asphalt to scale them, and to change the vertices (to add angles) - There are multiple 'invisible train station' mods on the workshop, which function as a station but is just an empty track - You can also place a station right at the map border, connect it up with walking paths and create a route between your CS and the map border station. people will spawn at the map border station, and walk to a train. They actually use the trains!

What is meant is that the cims spawn on the 'outside' station, but they need to travel to an 'inside' station plopped by the player that accepts outside connections. Then they can get on a scheduled train to the inner city train station.
@Flying_Skier
@Flying_Skier Жыл бұрын
if you draw a line between the custom station and the station track at the map entrance, cims should be able to use it as a normal line

If you just set a line from the station track that goes through the border, it acts as if it were an outside connection train, even though you manage it. Tourists and people moving to the city will use that line to travel in.

Story for the reason behind the station being like this: The old station was placed at the end of the track. But because the city grew a new station building was build, but the old one needed to stay in operation before the new one was done. And this was the only location connected to the station/platforms to build a new station building. To get a link between old and new, maybe put an outer wall of the old station at the end of the platform, it being left behind as reminder of the past and as a bordes to the old plot of land, that is now used for new developmant. (excuse my english, as it is not my native language)

Miami actually had street cars back in the 20's up to the 40's. When they originally proposed the metrorail it was supposed to go all the way up to Opa Locka and down to Florida City. They also had plans for exclusive bus highways and several bus lanes. There is a pretty cool podcast I listen to that talks about Miami history. Its called "this day in miami" and the episode is called May 20, 1984: Metrorail runs for the first time

As an American Railroad enthusiast, I love the fact that the Amtrak station is so dysfunctional. It’s really on-point with Amtrak of that era. However the train you’re using with the single blue locomotive at the front isn’t period correct. Those locomotives weren’t put into service until the 90s and weren’t in that paint scheme until the mid 2000s. Honestly try replacing it with a train led by an F40PH. That would be on point for the 1980’s!

Established in 1885, the Sunshine Coast Railway was originally built to service hotels along the eastern Atlantic coast of the state. It starts all the way from the northern-most part of the state and snakes along the eastern coast all the way to Sunset City. It carried passengers and freight along the route until it obtained a charter to build track all the way to Sunset City in 1896. With many hotels and companies setting foot in the city, and with the geography south being more swampy, thus difficult to build tracks on, the decision was made to make Sunset City the terminal station for the Railway. The Sunshine Coast Railway however would not be the only railway in town looking to make a stake, the Seaside-Bank Railroad reached Sunset City in 1910, and decided they were going to continue past the city into the Key Islands. their operations were successful, bringing holiday-makers to the small island resorts sprinkled outside of the city. However in 1942 a massive Hurricane destroyed the bridges connecting the mainland to the keys, most of the islands were forever scared. The Seaside-Bank railroad, at the whim of the I.C.C. (Interstate Commerce Commission) during the second world war, were not allowed to spend money on building or re-building tracks and infrastructure, with most effort being put towards the war effort. Following the end of WW2, with road transport and highways taking off in popularity, the interest for rebuilding the rail line was never taken seriously by the state's government again. decades later, in the late 60's - early 70's, when passenger rail and infrastructure was at it's absolute worst, the Seaside-Bank Railroad would merge with its rival, the Sunshine Coast Railway, in order for it to survive. With Miami not being an industry-focused town, and what little industry it had was served by trucking, the main Terminal in its downtown region would begin crumble and need serious repairs if it was going to stay up. Luckily, before the station was proposed to be torn down and replaced with a sports stadium, President Robert F. Kennedy signed the "Nationalized Passenger Rail Act of 1973". This act would give railroads the opportunity to relinquish their passenger services to the Federal Government's new agency "CityLink". Starting that same year, CityLink would take over the Sunshine Coast's passenger operations, and began restoration of Sunset City's beautiful downtown terminal. Today the station sees multiple intercity commuter trains, and 3 long distance trains, most notably the "Shooting Star" and "Silver Dollar" trains from Sunset City to Gramercy. It has become a landmark of the city, and a classical sight to behold.

Dysfunctional station my beloved. You can make a custom train line that goes to the spawning point of a map btw and that can therefore actually act as an Intercity train and pickup outside connections. So you can do that. Also idk if a commuter rail line to the keys is still on the table but if it is, it would make sense to maybe have it go on a bypass line around the city to get to the central station, or just have it use a very scruffy halt elsewhere in downtown. Many big cities have multiple stations after all and commuter trains usually get the worse end of it. Even Miami currently has 3 different train stations. One for Brightline, one for Amtrak, and one for the commuter train Tri-Rail. I know some Budd railcars were recently uploaded to the workshop and those would be a perfect fit for a commuter service alongside maybe some of Astros old Gallery car trains.

In spite of the rail being pointless for now, it was still an interesting episode haha If you lower the rails bellow grade, you could have crossings above that platforms that will look relatively normal. Also, it will provide the opportunity to lower the rail bellow the avenue next to it. A bellow grade line will also help extend the rail to the other side of downtown without causing too many traffic issues and add to the layering effect you were talking about

Amazing detail on the station. It’s so frustrating and time consuming to build custom stations, but also super satisfying when they’re done. This one turned out very well :) One thing I’ve recently started to do is make a park and ride station at the edge of the map. That way I can still keep external traffic on separate lines, but also have people coming in from outside connections.

So I think many people know that you can setup a station near the boundary of the map and draw a line from there to your city and people will spawn and use that line. But I recently found you don't even need the station. The tracks at the end of map work like station tracks, so you can directly draw a line from the end of the map track to your station directly without needing an actual station at the end of the map.

Something to know: the “Miami central” referenced in this video is owned and operated and used by Brightline, a private high speed rail service for the southern Florida region. I think the fact that it is not fully efficient is realistic, I mean, infrastructures IRL aren't fully mathematically efficient neither. Maybe you could think of a story involving some kind of construction or political corruption where the funds for building the station went elsewhere and the station was built fast and with low budget because of that. Idk, good episode howeverr!!!!

I hear the pain in your voice. But, that kind of gives me an idea about the station. Basically, most terminal station would have the platforms set up exactly the same way as yours are, but the station house would be at the end rather than on the side. So maybe when city officials started building the station there was a recession and couldn't afford to build a station house. But, the medical rehabilitation center right next to the station went bankrupt and so the city bought the forsclosed property, maybe with some kind of sketchy FAB! soda connection, in order to save the project.

you could just move the main station building to the left so that people don't have to walk all the way around. would just need to remove that one road and building

i guess you could put a station out of the city near the car spawn that accepts trains from out of town and then they can go from there to that station but i know you wouldnt allow that on yourself 🤣

Good work on station ,why not create another entry point to station from other side? I guess you can remove highway from middle of city. Try to create sunken highway passing through downtown
