Sorry guys what you had was nothing close to a authentic Lamprais.. That’s a sorry excuse of a massive rice and curry pack wrapped in a banana leaf.. Surprising you couldn’t find real Lamprais with a well established Dutch Burgher community in Melbourne
@TwoHungryDiners2 жыл бұрын
@@jayf4005 it’s not that we couldn’t find it. We need to explore more restaurants. As the title suggests, this is our first time trying Sri Lankan food. There are many more Sri Lankan restaurants to discover in Melbourne. In this video we have only visited three restaurants in Glen Waverley. In Melbourne there are hundreds of suburbs, it will take time to find and ask around what you call an authentic lamprais. If you know what an authentic one should look like, and have a place selling it here in Melbourne, please let us know 😊

Yuum! My partner is Sri Lankan, yesterday we went to his brother's place and had stringhoppers, chicken curry and mackeral curry with homemade pol sambol and also seeni sambol which is the onion one. Hoppers are my favourite, especially with a curry such as black pork curry, SO good. One of my other favourites is the eggplant that Peter loved, my mother-in-law used to make a really good one. There are some places on Centre Road Clayton that you could try in the future, one is a grocer that sells ready to eat food as well called Cakepoint, you can get stringhoppers as well as hot food like pan rolls to take away. There are also a couple of small Sri Lankan restaurants in the same strip.

Thank you very much for trying Sri Lankan food, my beautiful native country. Sri Lanka is home to many religions, ethnic groups, and languages. In addition to the majority Sinhalese, it is home to large groups of Sri Lankan and Indian Tamils, Moors, Burghers, Malays, and the aboriginal Vedda. Being colonized by three different cultures has influenced the culture of Sri Lanka to the point that all three are still present in the country today to a certain extent. I welcome you to my motherland Sri Lanka , Taprobane, or the famous "Pearl of the Indian Ocean" to explore more about our habits of generosity, kindness, food , culture and Hospitality 🇱🇰💓🇱🇰💓🇱🇰💓🇱🇰💓🇱🇰💓🇱🇰💓🇱🇰

And jagery is made of honey take from a tree called "kithul" I dunno about their in australia though. And 12:26 It's a "kunisso sambol" which is made of coconut and a small shrimp called "kunisso". And the other one is brinjal moju. One of most common dishes which we all crave for😍

In terms of Spices there are common spices used across South Asia like chillies and cardomoms. But about the spices you possibly could have smelled/tasted in Watalappam is Cinnamon. Which is the truest form of (Ceylon) Cinnamon so technically not a Indian Spice but a Sri Lankan spice. And looking at the Lamprais dish, that sambol might not be a coconut sambol instead a "kunisso" sambol, which is made out of dried little, tiny bitsy shrimps. I'm just guessing.
