Hey Luke there‘s an interesting fact about Kavum. It‘s told that in the ancient times in Sri Lanka Sri Lankan soldiers carried two bags of Kavum. One with freshly fried ones( these are really high in protein and with 3-4 a day you could fulfill the protein requirement) and the other ones which are fried and kept for 2-3 months to become old. When a soldier gets injured in a battle they tie a Kavum to the wound. It’s said that old Kavum naturally grows penicillin bacteria and the wound won‘t get infected due to that.

Penicillin is an anti-bacterial so no bacteria can grow/multiply when penicillin is around. what penicillin does is, it will prevent the openings a bacteria makes during its multiplication and letting exterior water to seep into the bacteria cell (osmosis) and finally bursting the bacteria cell.
