I never liked the “Role..3..2...1” thing as jailor. I’ll say role and wait 5 seconds. If they don’t claim I hit execute. It makes them shit their pants every time. I typically will draw back if they claim and post will, but not if they are way too suspicious.

or just wait 3 seconds, 5 seconds is a lot of time to fake a claim, the reason why people say role 3 2 1 is to rush them, you can also execute, so they have to be really fast in reply, if slow enough or not likely legit, otherwise turn it off

I hate 321 jailors, I find it a super annoying tactic. Sometimes I’m writing info from the day chat in my will, I’m not always at my keyboard and ready to type. It also annoys inmates and imo encourages them to not want to share info to spite the jailor even if they are town. My jailor strategy is to say nothing for the first five seconds to see if the inmate claims without being prompted (evils will rarely claim unless they think they need to). Then I will hit ‘execute’ and ask for role and will. If they don’t have a good enough explanation (role + will) to convince me not to execute them, they die.

Tafp Maybe, I don’t play ranked anymore though so people aren’t that quick. In ranked I used to have my claim and will set up during d1 so whether it’s 3 or 5 seconds wouldn’t make a difference to players who are good enough to fake a will in a couple seconds anyway

Some townie forgets that their sacrifice gives the town, especially jailor, a chances to find the mafia or serial killer. So if you needed to be killed to confirm roles, that doesn't mean it was a bad gameplay. For example of that vigi, they shot the LO to confirm roles so that Jailor knows who to jail next and exe the right one. GG Jailor and props to our vigi to confirm the remaining roles.

They changed the UI to look more like a mobile game a while back when they changed from Flash to Unity, the UI has changed a lot since the initial change but is still a lot worse than the old AI in terms of QoL and just in general being nice on the eyes

Yeah.... I mean the jailor wasn't terrible but it definitely isn't pro jailing at all..... I'm a way better jailor than this and I find some of his tactics insignificant such as the counting down method or refusing to call out tp/lo day 1. Sometimes people take a while to respond because they are writing their will, etc. When jailors ask me and count down, I take my sweet time. They count down faster than a normal second..... ALSO, some people have played mafia so well they can lie in seconds and the jailor confirms them as town from that...........which isn't the wisest. I commend him on reading other people's wills when they die and verifying information though. However, it's best to go an extra step to see who doesn't vote the accused mafia, then jail the ones who haven't voted, and I eventually end up using all my three executions on mafia members. It's a tactic that always works for me. On top of that, I let town know who i am jailing everyday to prevent them from visiting a jailed person so a day isn't wasted. I know the counter argument would be, it would be easier for someone to fake it in their will because they know who I jailed, but that's the point. Why visit someone who I already said I'd jail? That's suspicious in itself. Instead of keeping just an RT role list, it's better to keep an entire track of the role list and everyone that claims a role so it doesn't get lost in chat and it saves time from jailing them and giving time to go for the more silent people who have yet to claim. I also recommend whispering if you know it's not a blackmailer game to ask people for their roles and wills as confirmed jailor. It keeps it moving a lot faster. Gives you an idea of if you want to just jail and exe that person or if that person is just confirmed anyway. I also post the role list to every town member in chat and to confirmed townies so they can investigate better people and the silent roles, and it makes better connections way faster when someone is leading the town. If you haven't called yourself out as jailor, I suggest staying quiet and not being too explosive. If you do want to be explosive, claim jailor and ask for tp/lo. Also, during the lynches, never guilty. For you don't know if it could be a jester. it's just safest to always inno as jailor and have everyone else guilty. Most players in TOS aren't that sharp and their wills are half assed. If it's a vigi claim, and it's been around 4-5 nights, even if they have a will, just execute them because most vigi's would have shot someone who at least sounded suspicious. I also recommend keeping track of the random mafia roles because if you have two random mafia roles dead and mafioso and GF are the only ones left alive, and someone claims escort with actual roleblocks to prove, it confirms them as escort because the two random mafia roles are down. If it's GF and one RM left, then there's a potential they're consort since a RM position is still open. Ofc helpful if there's no spy in the game. A weak tactic but semi helpful is to use your intuition when the person is typing. If you've played the game, you'll be able to gauge the difference between someone's plea if they're suspicious or not. Most of the time, suspicious people either try to guilt trap you by saying YOU'LL LOSE YOUR EXES, fine let the mafia win or stay silent cause they can't fight back anymore once you hit the execute button. If it's townies, they just most of the time say, idiot, reporting you, dumbass, from the anger they feel that they're being wronged. BUT, GG. You were a good jailor.

You might notice that just because they don't claim right away doesn't mean I always exe. But it adds into the mix. Social deduction games are all about getting as much information as you can. If you can't type what your role is in the first 5 secs of being in jail, you're probably making it up.

It is better to remain silent as Jailor (at night). If the jailed person is town, they'll claim to you right away. If they are silent or take forever to give role, then they are evil. By saying 'Role 3, 2, 1' (which is the worst way....) and forcing them to speak, you are basically giving them a free night or many nights for the lie to persist.

The reason that names were written for TOS is that originally previous versions of the UI didn't include their number after death. So you couldn't remember who was who after they died! That obviously didn't help with confirming wills and all that, so we used names instead since names stayed in the graveyard.

There is a limited number of each role category. For example, TK, which is town killing, will only appear once per game. Town killing roles include vigilante or veteran. If you see one of these roles, that's normal. If you see a second one, that must be one of your three "random town" members.

Oh I miss playing this game. Whenever I'm a jailor, I only jail anyone who is not talking at day. They are usually the mafia/NK. and give them 5 sec to post their will. if they don't speak at all, they must either be afk but depends on my hunch, I don't execute them (yet) and jail them again next night if I am still alive before executing.

My problem with how they got theGF, is that he claimed vigi, while vigi is the one that goes out and kills, while vet stays home. so the vigi/vet part of the reasoning, wasn't valid. i'm not saying that all of the evidence for killing him was bad, just part of it was faulty
