Thank you everyone for all the comments and suggestions, especially those of you that lost your dear friend Ann. We never knew of her until reading these comments. The Nightwish Army lost a very dear member. We're so glad you shared her memory with us and are honored we posted this video today, of us reacting to her favorite song, even if coincidentally. We feel close to Ann and all of you. So today, think of the good times. Keep Ann in your heart and you'll never be without her. Rest in peace, Ann.

I’m your age and had never heard of symphonic metal or Nightwish until about nine months ago. Never got into metal or grunge until recently as I was in my late thirties when it came in. So last fall I heard Ghost Love Score and was utterly hooked. Fell in love withNightwish, Floor, Marco, Tuomas etc. I’m 73, and infected my 85 year old friend with the Nightwish bug too. It’s interesting that in Finland, symphonic metal is considered mainstream music. I don’t know of any American symph metal bands.
@SubwaySweden4 жыл бұрын
It is common in the Nordics in general, In Norway for instance Dimur Borgir (black metal) played with the national philharmonic orchestra on state owned televison etc. We like our metal up here on all levels of society ;-)

I find it utterly fascinating and awesome that there are so many, dare I say it, older people who have kept an open ear and an open mind. I'm 53, and when I was a child it was unimaginable that the generation of my grandparents would listen to any form of rock music, let alone metal. 85! Crazy. Rock on! \m/

I hate to metion the E word( as a Nightwish fan ) but Evanescence (considered Gothic Metal) did do a live album/concert with a full orchestra here is one song, one of my favourites My Heart Is Broken kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZu7laSmbZl3f8k PS I am a youthful 62 and lucky enough to have found Nightwish 15 years ago.

That is so cool, it really seems Nightwish touches their listeners no matter how young or old they are. And yes, I would say that Nightwish and many more metal bands are considered mainstream in Finland. Pretty much all the radio stations play their music, less or more.

Oliphant I think you had to be a rocker when young. Those who were into Zeppelin, Floyd etc which I was. I don’t think young people who were into country back in the seventies would go for this. But I was in the old fart group who thought that no new music could EVER match the sixties and seventies...until I got exposed through KZbin. What an eye opener.......ROCK ON everybody! 🤘

Ladies we are in our 70s and discovered Nightwish and Floor two years ago and understand your surprise and pleasure for the best band in the symphonic metal genre. They have a catalog of over 100 songs and every one is unique thanks to Tuomas, keyboard artist, who writes most of their music and lyrics. He is pure genius. Their live performances are the best due to their stage presence and production quality. Looking forward to joining you on your Nightwish adventure. Enjoy the ride. a Fun fact about Finland where this band is from, in care homes for the elderly, nurses have come out saying that these days more often than not, the elderly customers want to listen to bands like Metallica and Nightwish to calm them down during hard times instead of the golden oldies that they used to listen :) . Please keep doing your reactions, your channel is an absolute pleasure to watch :) Edit: ever since Finnish Lordi won the Eurovision, metal and hard rock hit mainstream acceptance basically overnight, and it never left For example, my 78 year old father recently asked me if I knew a "minor" German band called Rammstein he had discovered by accident and was really enjoying 😂 And my mother was, oh there you start going on about rammstein again, bad enough you are playing it all the time in car 🤣 she listens to Black Sabbath instead (she never really got over how the Germans had burned our hometown and Hilter's speeches, so that is why she can't stand anything in spoken or sung in German)

This concert is what got me into Nightwish. I came across it one night on KZbin and decided to check it out. It was 11 pm, so, I was only going to watch a few songs. Wrong! The moment the concert started, it was like a hand reached out, grabbed me by the shirt collar and dragged me in to this wonderful majestic music. I could not stop watching and ended up viewing the entire concert until 1 am. I have since purchased the entire Nightwish catalogue and their music has been instrumental in my book writing. Songs like Dead Boy's Poem, Bless the Child and Meadows of Heaven have help me visualize the stories in my two book (so far); Days of Future Past and Days of Future Past: The Valley of Forever. You two ladies and awesome and have a great taste in music. Keep on Rockin' and Smilin'.

Freethinker the noise quality of Wacken is arguably better than Wembley, but I would argue that Wembley is the better overall concert, a more diverse set list and the way Marco and Floor sing some songs differently make it just slightly better in my opinion, in fact whilst I’m being greedy I think as a subscriber special or something why not do both Wacken and Wembley???

Nice reaction! This was the song that was immediately after GLS, your last NW reaction. Most of the lyrics for this song where taken from the lengthy poem 'Song of Myself' by the American Poet Laureate, Walt Whitman, circa 1892. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' from the same concert for your next Nightwish reaction.

Ann Waycoff was always there with her comments and encyclopedic knowledge guiding people new to Nightwish. So sad that she's gone. 😢 I saw a suggestion for "The Hu" in one of the comments, and wanted to add my recommendation for a reaction to them. There's an internet forum that I'm a part of, where we've played this "Forumvision" game for years, which is kind of a music reaction game modelled after Eurovision. Every player sends in a KZbin link to a song every round, and then we listen to the songs sent in every round, and rate them, Eurovision style. Anyway, these forumvision games have been going on for about ten years or so on the forum (We're up to game number 18, that's running right now), and a song by The Hu holds the all time record score. Specifically this one: The Hu - Yuve Yuve Yu (link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGXbi4ioZad4nKc )

Nightwish is amazing. As with all genre's there are lower level I dunno if I'd say "skill" bands and higher ones. Not that the more basic writing/musicianship etc is bad, lots is good. BUT nightwish is on the complete other spectrum. The composing, the writing, the singing, the musicianship is utterly top notch. The blending of classical, theatrical, operatic, and metal is magic IMO. HAHA They ARE the shit! lol You two are hilarious.

I don't know if many here have mentioned it, but as a teacher, you'd absolutely love the fact that the inspiration for this song was Walt Whitman (think Walden Woods), which this song is based off of a song that he wrote back in the 1880s, also called "Song of Myself". In fact, Walt Whitman is Tuomas' favorite poet, so it's really cool to see how deep they bat for inspiration and influence, rather than staying more shallow and esoteric.

Agree with your comment about Grace Slick. What a voice she had! And Heart too. And yeah......about getting involved physically in a concert: Even during an indoor Zeppelin concert, people were expected to stay seated. There’s a clip out there of Robert Plant asking the people in front to please sit down. He sang it...changing the lyrics in the middle of the song and doing it in rhyme....😁 Madison Square Garden 1970 I believe.. Anyway...a question to your subscribers: When did it become the norm to have no seats on the bottom floor for indoor concerts so that people could crowd surf, mosh etc. was it the eighties? Did it originate with metal?

Glad I found you ladies. You're really great. It's good to see this music can span all the generations and everyone can appreciate it. For Nightwish, when you guys get to "The Poet and the Pendulum" it'll be something to see. Not making any demands but I know it's useful for viewers to mention what they'd like to see: I think some more Tool and Band-Maid would be just wonderful.

Ironic. Today the Nightwish Army is in morning. We lost a great lady an the unofficial nightwish historian. Due to medical issues. Then you ladies pick her favorite song. As you can tell by the comments. Great people touch lives if only known over social media. R.I.P Ann Waychoff 6-29-2020.

Wow. We're so sorry about the loss of Ann. We're both here reading and replying to comments and have seen so many mentioning Ann. We didn't know of her, but glad to finally read who she was as we could tell she was very important to fans. We're sorry we never had the chance to talk to her, but we're grateful that on this sad day, coincidentally, posted our reaction to one of Ann's favorite Nightwish songs. We see why she liked it so much. It's wonderful. To all the Nightwish fans that knew Ann, we send our deepest sympathies to you and her family. We feel a connection with her just from your comments about her. Thank you for sharing her story with us. May Ann rest in peace.

New subscriber here. Just found your videos today, and they are SO fun. In light of you loving Nightwish, I think you would also love the band Epica. I HIGHLY recommend their video for Consign To Oblivion, live at the Zenith.

Romanticide and/or Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean next! Just as you said, everytime you hear a new song from Nightwish you can't choose wich one you like more, each is a diferent song and have a diferent and unique feel to it, and that's an amazing feat for a band over 20 years old!

Greetings from Germany, you two are really awesome! It is fun to watch you both enjoying the music. I recommend: Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song (live), Avantasia, Eluveitie and Dimmu Borgir ;). \m/

I enjoy your reactions! The entire Nightwish hour-plus set from Wacken 2013 is available on KZbin so you can actually see it start to finish and it is amazing. I'd like to see you react to "Romanticide" from Wacken 2013, then do the show opener "Dark Chest of Wonders" (these guys KNOW how to kick a show off!), then do "Everdream". Actually if you could do a LONG reaction of the whole Nighwish Wacken 2013 show (perhaps divide into two parts?) that would be awesome!

You want to see fans involved with them? Try checking out the whole setlist from Nightwish's 2018 concert in Buenos Aries. That will totally blow you away with involved fans. They really get into it.

I have found My People! This is Granny Jo, a 57 year old who fangirls over Billie Eilish, cranks up the volume on Korn, knows the words to most songs by CCR and who soaks in the tub while listening to Vivaldi. I'm only ever able to talk tunes with the 4 kids I raised and my sister. That might still hold true, but now I've peers here on KZbin. So very happy I found you, ladies!

Yo I just found this channel and I am loving it so far. If I may be so bold as to suggest some songs to react to they would be: "Resist and Bite" by Sabaton, "Yggdrasil" by Brothers of Metal and "Hangover" by Alestorm. Keep rockin on grannies.
