@@lilithlee3731 mine too sadly. I loved to be able to play piano (actually, i still do) and the only instrument i had was my dad’s secondhand keyboard piano that he only bought cuz it was on sale when he was still unmarried (so imagine how old it was). They had me take the basic lessons when 6 or 7 yrs old first and then after that they expected me to continue with no more lessons or a new keyboard at least. Now, all i know are the leftover songs I could play as a child, or just play by ear, I can’t read sheet music.

Lol I remember quitting piano lessons in high school after 7-8 years and my dad tried to talk me out of it by saying how disappointed my mom will be if I did. Its probably the biggest reason why I didn't touch the piano for years. I'm appreciating it now though. I just feel like if parents want to invest in their child's musical interest, they should follow it up with genuine interest in their child rather than what they can accomplish.

Neat video. I didn’t play an instrument growing up, however I was in choir. In high school, our choir and band always went on a Spring trip and I went the two years we went to Disney World (Disney was every three years so I was in one of the classes that got to go twice). In college, we did little Spring tours each year. My violin journey started as an adult. From about 2012 until 2019, I tried learning on my own, very inconsistently. I started lessons in 2019; I’m almost done with Suzuki Book 2 and will hopefully start book 3 soon. I also am using the Doflein method beginner book and have a Christmas book and Disney song book as well.

Good for you! I also did not began playing the violin until I was an adult. It was something I really wanted to do so I did it and I absolutely love it. I’ll never be a pro (not even close), but I don’t have to be. I simply love the violin. Since studying the violin, I’ve really enjoyed being a part of a community orchestra. One of my past violin teachers said they love teaching adult students. Adults are very busy so when they choose the violin they are very focused, they’re spending their own money and adults don’t have to be encouraged to practice. The same is true whether you’re learning from a teacher or learning it on your own. Although the violin is a challenging instrument, I hope you love playing it🙂

When Brett said those words, its like being in a close knitted group and a friend pointed out that we don't care about their hobbies or the silly little trinkets they keep and treasure that makes us see what molded them to what they are now. Brett’s tiny-ass bow is reminding me of this one time my senior year of HS. We were working on the 3rd movement of Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony (Sentimental Saraband) and the 2nd chair 1st violin-we’ll call him Ben-accidentally forgot his bow one day. None of the violins had a spare bow, so our teacher pulled out the punishment bow: a 1/16th size bow. The thing was 12 inches max. It was adorable. “Ben” is fairly tall, so this bow was about the length of his forearm. So every time I would look over at the concertmaster, “Ben” would be in my line of sight and I’d catch him attempting to use this little Lincoln Log, and I would crack up.

3:46: Me, born in 1968:" You just wait and see, what's in store for you.." Especially when it comes to the EYES section!🤦♂️😖😡 When I was a kid AND a teen, I could see in the dark. Forget about that now! I'm 54,and just had new glasses. Again.. and they DON'T help about night vision!🤣🤦♂️

My son (9years old) is in his forth year of learning the violin. Seeing your scrapbook and the page with "Aunty Rhody" made me giggle... that was one of the first songs he had to learn too (here in Austria)!

I can SMELL Brett’s violin case!! Looks almost exactly the same as my violin as a kid lol. The blue velvet, the rosin the wood, the bow hair!

For someone who wasn't exposed to music (and other elective/recreational) classes as a child, this sure is an interesting video

Sometimes you make your own little time capsule without even knowing it. I’ve kept all my music related things from grade school and whenever I pull them out, I just have a nostalgic trip up the calendar and realizing just how far we’ve come.

I am learning "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" now! I'm 55 - I love to watch your videos. Sometimes I "make a deal" with my self, to practice - and my reward is a break watching you for a laugh. Oh. And inspiration of course!

This is one of my favorite episodes of Twoset so far. So wholesome and genuine. I love to see the sharp contrast between the two gents here, Brett being sentimental and appreciating his journey, Eddie being very focused and minimalist. You guys are helping me to overcome my unrealistic crush, by becoming another unrealistic crush🌚

Just reading through the comments gives me a nostalgic vibe, it's so nice to see people sharing their stories. Everyone has their own unique childhood, and there are good and bad things happened back then. I sincerely hope that everyone here, myself included, could only remember the good memories and embrace the bad ones 🙏.

I really love nostalgia, even when the memories don't belong to me :) It was nice to see you both looking back on your history of playing violin. Your video led me to go down my own Memory Lane. I found my clarinet, books and practice log that it turns out I last used on 17th May 1995. The cleaning cloth, reeds and some now-green-tinged cork grease were still in the case - I'm not sure whether to try to play the clarinet or do a bacteria swab-test on the contents first...!

When I was small my Music teacher recorded my vocal lessons for home practice in casettes. I still have them and listening them brings back a lot of memories.

Wow Is that red kit/bag from 朱宗慶打擊樂? Geez seeing that unlocked some ancient memories of mine lol. It’s so awesome seeing Brett’s parents kept it all this time, even after moving from country to country.

This was such a sweet video! I'll go out on a limb and predict a lot of new videos being made, playing pieces on these "old" instruments. It will be EPIC! So glad that Brett's parents saved all this!

2:00 Ha, TwoSetViolin exposed themselves as former child prodigies by comparing their smol violins. Also I was a bit disappointed when Brett did not play the harmonica that would be so cool :(

They still make those Yamaha kits!! Me and my three brothers have all done the Yamaha program when we started learning piano, and they still have the books with sticker pages to fill in, music staff whiteboard, paper keyboard, and workbooks, although they are slightly updated, unless they’re just different because we had the American version. The only thing different is the cassette tapes, which is a CD now, and they also give you a DVD with music videos. This is as of 2019 btw, with the same Yamaha group classes :)

My violin case when I was 5 was similar to Brett's but with an ugly cheap green felt inside. Also my piano teacher made me do the scrapbook thing just sticking in photocopied sheets of music inside. I covered it with contact like I did with all my school exercise books. Ah the 80s lol. (btw I can't play either instrument anymore lmao).

I love how they talk about 1999 like, "Dude, some of you weren't even born then." Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "Gee, I was already 19 by then!" LOL. It's okay, Ling Ling is eternal!
