I'm Ray 61yrs old from Mississippi, It's August 2022. Just bought my 2015 FJR 1300 with 21300 miles. Just want to say I think your videos are very good. And your absolutely right about your videos helping others that haven't replaced or add and fix things on this bike. I know the videos or old but keep doing the great job that you are doing. Helps me and others alot.

Bryan, Thanks for taking the time to put these videos out there. You take an easy, unassuming hands on approach with your teaching skills. For those of us who are just starting out ( or in my case, restarting. A lot has changed in 20 years) your step by step instruction takes the "Oh crap, I'm going to screw up my bike" out of the picture. Changed the oil in my 2013 FRJ1300 last weekend from your video and cancelled my very expensive dealership appointment. Air filter is next. Thanks bud. We all owe you a beer. Well done Sir. Double A.

Thank you for your review. I just bought a 2016 FJR but, before I purchase different bikes I review videos such as yours. Why? To scope out potential draw backs to over complicated models. I enjoy doing as much of my the work as possible. Your vids offer a great peak into the FJRs straight forward approach of general maintenance. You are right about the shop manual being vague. Shop manuals are not a how to. Keep up the good work. You lead me to a very enjoyable bike. Glad your back. Thank you!

Just changed the air filter in my FJR after watching this. In fact I’ve changed both the engine and rear drive oils this week after watching Bryan’s videos. Guys like Bryan bridge the gap between reading the manual and getting it done.

Us FJR owners on a tight budget really appreciate your vids. Even on a simple oil change it’s the panel removal that can be a stumper. You help break it all down easy. Kudos! Oh! I actually promised not to tell but the lil rodents that left the turds used to joyride your bike at night when you were sleeping. They’re nocturnal you know. I didn’t want them mussing up your nice ride. 🙂

Another thanks for your FJR1300 videos. I replaced the battery 3 weeks ago and the air filter today both would have been much more trial and error and frustration without watching the videos a few times. I'm saddened to report my original air filter contained no rodent droppings! :D

These how-to-videos also help us to decide which bike where going to buy. Of all of the sport tourer bikes, the FJR has the reputation for being the most DIY friendly. That is EXTREMELY important in deciding cost of ownership costs.

Hey Bryan, Thanks for the informative video! You have all the correct terminology for all the parts and makes it easy to follow. Most folks can probably do this and that is fine. However, I won't have to guess which screws and fasteners have to be removed.I am headed to the garage right now to change the filter on my FJR for the first time. You da man!

This is actually a very easy project unless you lay the shroud out of sight and forget to re-install it and then wind up with 2 left over snaps! One thing I did differently is I removed the hex bolt in the rear red panel behind the snap you removed; it just makes getting out the silver panel easier and only costs you about 10 extra seconds time.

Changed my air filter today. Thank you so much for pointing out all the bolts! The book just said 'remove the side cover'. Appreciate the instructions! Awesome. Note I wonder off i could cut off that cylindrical plastic tube on the air box cover to make the reinstallation of the air box cover easier? It seems to serve no purpose. I'm taking about the tube that extends inside the middle of the air filter.

If you want to have some fun, do this to an older AE model. I guess Yamaha designed the air box before they decided to put the auto-clutch paraphernalia in front of the access panel.

Hello Brian. Thank you very much for the detailed and wonderful explanation. I always enjoy watching your videos, although I do not understand English very well. No one has such detailed instructions as you! Brian, can I ask you a question? Is there a book (manual) for servicing YAMAHA FGR 1300 from 2013? Can you share a link if there is something similar? I can't find it anywhere. On the Internet I meet only manuals until 2013. Thank you. Sergey.

Finally got around to doing the change... this video helped so much, thank you so much! You think they could have managed that wiring harness better, lol? Found the gas tank vent hose in the process... somehow it was routed to the inside of the outer cover... that is what peeled the paint! The only blemish on the bike when I bought it with 10,200 miles on it for 5900 bucks. I have to wonder how the hose got there though...

As a new biker, I was wondering, if you have the time, if you can briefly explain "counter steering". Although I've looked at countless videos about it, I don't find them very clear. I find your "how-to" videos very understandable and believe I, and many others, will find it a great help. I'll be taking lessons soon but would still appreciate your additional help. (Only if you can squeeze it into your busy schedule). Thanks again.

I agree that there are a lot of counter steering videos out there that don't do a satisfactory job of explaining the concept. I would recommend Roadcraft Nottingham's channel. He is a certified MC instructor and I find his videos easy to understand. In my opinion, his counter steering video makes the most sense to me.

+TwoWheelObsession Thanks. I was chasing my buddies on sports bikes and the FJR was very capable but the pegs kept dragging. Being in the UK we have some good suspension people here and I'll investigate. it might just be that that is the limit for the FJR. I tried hanging off to get it more upright but it just felt strange! ha ha

You could also try a slightly taller rear tire. I know on the Concours many riders said it helped it turn in much easier and it may give you a few more millimeters of clearance.
